  1. We recently made these lapel pins. They are a little bigger than a US quarter. We made them with Shrinky Dinky printable shrink paper and stick on lapel pin backers and they were fairly inexpensive to make. That's my 2 year old son in the logo, Brayden, surrounded by his "brigade"

We also have a pathtag in production. They haven't arrived yet.

  2. When we first went on caching, we went with an experienced cacher. Just email someone who recently found the cache, tell them you're new, and ask them if they would be willing to meet you at the location and give you some guidance/pointers. Geocachers are a friendly bunch.

Geocaching is always a learning experience. I learn something new all the time. Don't give up!

  3. Heck, I have been doing it for nearly a year now and I still do the happy dance! We have attended a few events and we plan to attend a camping event later this spring. It's addictive. You'll love it.

  4. Wow! These new pathtags look FANTASTIC!

Archi77, you have a very nice design! Your image looks great and I am impressed. I doubt they will have much trouble making a blueprint.

Hairball45 ~ I rated your tag yesterday I believe. I seen it in the gallery and was very impressed. I gave it a full 10, because I am partial to yorkies and dogs in general. Beautiful.

I really hope you both will be open to trades!

  5. We just received an email saying the design was sent to the production team for review. I really struggled with the design. It's hard keeping it to the recommended 6 colors. I am hoping there aren't too many changes, if any, to be made.

ETA: Here is the design I sent.

  6. We just made our first pathtag order yesterday! We sent in our design and we are anxious to see the template. We love pathtags and love finding them in caches. We loved the idea the first time we found one in a cache and we have been hooked ever since. I think they are going to take off, or at least we are really hoping they do.

  7. Does this mean, if we find one, we can trade something for it and keep it or is it intended for the cache owner?

    Hi Brayden's Brigade!

You found my tag and thank you for taking it and logging it!!!! And it's your's to keep. I hope that everyone who finds one of my tags in a cache will take it and LOG it. It is fun to see who has picked up your tag and added to their collection. I have a map on my pathtag home page where I can see where all my tags are all over the world.

I give a thumbs up to pathtags. They're affordable for us. Having a geocoin made is out of our financial reach but pathtags are very reasonable for our income bracket. They are fun to trade with other tag owners, and at about $1 each, they make nice swag, something that someone might actually want! I just noticed yesterday that you get 50 tags with your initial order now, instead of just 25. I'll probably get another made now. So, just my opinion, but so far I have only positve things to say about pathtags!

Yay! I found it in a cache and traded for it, but really didn't understand what it was at the time. I got home, punched in the site and was intrigued. I came here and did a search for a forum topic on them, hoping to learn a little more. It really is a nice looking little coin/tag and I was impressed with it. I actually have another one, picked it up at an event and hadn't logged it (it's logged now). I really love the entire idea. I am excited to have one made of our own now. I hope to see more out there! I think they are fun to collect! I am hoping they really catch on.

  8. We just recently bought a new Garmin GPSMap 60CS and, although we still use this Vista, we think it is time to let it go to another geocacher. This unit is used, but in good cosmetic condition. It comes with it's original box, manuals, U.S Mapsource Topo CDs, lanyard and PC cable. We also including a compatible car mount and cigarette lighter power adapter. This has been a great geocaching unit for us and it's a little emotional for us to let it go, but hey, we need to help pay for the new unit! :D

    Make an offer!

  9. Our "team" consists of me, my husband and our 2 year old son (Brayden). We started geocaching as a family fun activity. There have been a few times when our son was not present on a geocaching outing, outdoor winter events, all day outings etc., but even that is rare. My husband and I do not go cache hunting separately. We don't see any fun in that. It wouldn't dawn on me to go without him and visa versa.

  10. I don't check the log against the cache page and delete anything. There are several legitimate reasons why someone may not have signed the log.

For example, just today, I took my sister and her son out and introduced them to geocaching. I bought my nephew a GPS for Christmas and made him an account. They had a blast and my sister was hooked. Tonight, she created her own account and logged the finds even though she signed her son's geocache name on the logs (he was too busy marveling at the swag).

I once wasn't able to sign a log because my pencil was broke and there wasn't a writing utensil in the cache. I pawned a pen off a clerk at an ice cream parlor a ways down the road so I wouldn't be in that predicament on the rest of the caches I had planned for that day.

If you are caching with a large group, it is easy to simply forget to sign in all the excitement.

  11. I cache with an Explorist 100, I dont mind putting the coordinates in by hand. I came up with a neat trick, if the cache is a micro I put the cache name in lower case letters and I use upper case letters for regular caches. Just press the shift button. I will probably up grade adventually to a 210 and let my son have the 100. Double check the coordinates before saving them in the GPS.

Great tip! I will have to pass that one along. How are you imputing the coordinates? Are you editing a POI or is there as specific way to do it? My sister, the boys mother, keeps asking me and because I am not familiar with this unit, I haven't been much help.

  12. My son is young (18 months old) so I worry about him the most. I don't want him to come across poison ivy or get ate alive by mosquitoes. I don't like when there's too many muggles around, because I'm afraid I'll give the cache away and it will be vandalized. I didn't worry too much about other people in the woods until I read this thread.
