I have a friend that has an earlier version of the Sony 717, what ever was out 2 years ago. He loves the photo quality. Now loathes the giant lense on the front. Bulky, bigger than the camera body itself. I've looked at the 5700 and wish I could win the lottery. I feel it is a more balanced camera in your hands. I personally like the layout of the body better. (I am a Nikon 880 user so I am partial to Nikons anyway). Picture quality is probably comperable ??? Our small local REI has the GPS classes usually twice a month. And a geocaching class at least once a month. Go to www.rei.com then click on Stores and Events on the left frame. p.s. I just noticed you are in Denver -- You have the giant REI superstore where the old car museum on Platte used to be. And I checked for you, no GPS classes. But they do have a Weekly Clinic: Maps, Compasses, & Orienteering...Fri 1:00 PM. I listed about 50 of my favorites (of the 240 some) in my PDA. I always carry my camera and GPS with me and when I see something I snap and waypoint it. Granted, I am behind in my logging, but having just as much fun. Easier to remember to say...look for a historic covered bridge while I am in Oregon or stand-alone analog giant clocks in Seattle, when I don't want to preplan some hunts, or I am not the driver and they don't want to drive out of their way. How about a try it on for size cache. One cache in the Pacific Northwest of course, where you could go to its coordinates, open the cache, try on the different sizes and check out what the green and blue is going to looks like and then post back here!
