  1. Sad I missed @bootron last night on the Geocaching Talk Network's livestream about everything Waymarking. Just watched the recorded video and it was interesting seeing the history of the site and how it has grown over the years. Thanks bootron for everything you do to keep both Geocaching and Waymarking possible! Hopefully more people will start Waymarking For those wanting to watch the recorded live stream, here's the video link:
  2. I disagree. Archiving a waymark means we loose that documentation and history of that object. For example, recently a lot of Confederate memorials have been removed here in the US. A lot of them are waymarked. Waymarking preserves their history. You can still visit the site of where a statue once was, but by archiving the waymark you loose that history and documentation. Instead, what has been accepted at least in the Waymarking community is to say "legacy" in the title to signify the object is either missing, stolen, or no longer standing. Makes it easy to know if something has been reported missing. Just my two cents.
  3. I can also help with the train station category.
  4. If you need more officers, feel free to add me. I'm happy to help
  5. I agree with Keith, the two words are interchangeable. Typically, from my experience, "gap" is designated for roads and "pass" for interstates or highways. But I have seen the word "gap" used for an interstate crossing albeit it was called a "gap" historically before the interstate was built through.
  6. I wish I could waymark my own Lego creations...
  7. I'd say as long as you own/took the photo you are allowed to give permission. If someone visited your waymark and uploaded photos, they will need to ask them (and not you) to use them. I would ask them to clarify which photos they would like.
  8. Just a short time ago, I got an email from a mother who memorialized her son by created a dedicated bench, of which I waymarked several years back: https://Waymarking.com/waymarks/wm14TWX_John_Moran_Jr_Charlestown_MD The email said this: "Thank you for Waymarking my sons memorial bench. At least I think you did this. It is in Charlestown Maryland where John lived. I am not sure how it happened and just know that I am so thankful for you. It says you were the poster of the waymark and I don't know how any of this works. He is so missed, my only son, was getting married, just purchased his first home. Anyhow you have no idea how much this means to me." I often wondered if any of the memorials I waymarked would be seen by family members or friends of the person. Quite frankly, Waymarking is the only place that catalogues these things which not only posts the location of the memorial, but also puts them in a catalogue database for the world to see. I am very humble to have created this waymark and to see John's legacy come full circle. Has anyone been contacted by the family of a memorial you waymarked? This is the first time for me. I have yet to respond to John's mother, but I will post an update soon!
  9. Happy belated birthday Don! It was an absolute pleasure and honor to meet you in person last year. Hope you are doing well! I always enjoy seeing all your waymarks from your great adventures around the country. Keep on Waymarking! Adam
  10. Does this qualify as a "relocated structure"?
  11. You need to be premium to be appointed as an officer, but if your membership expires after that then you can still stay an officer. But no, if you are not currently a premium member, then you cannot be appointed.
  12. As an officer in Gazebos, I'd approve of these there. No need for a new category. Also, maybe in Frieze Art?
  13. Alfounie is one of the better reviewers. He always gives insightful feedback and is fair in reviewing. I'm sorry you disagree with him, but I can assure you he doesn't mean any wrongdoing. Perhaps this incident was a misunderstanding and I hope this doesn't discourage you from the hobby.
  14. Thank you for brining this to light. I just checked and several of my previously approved waymarks are now revoked and in group votes. Which is a double standard since we all know we should not decline or re-review previously approved waymarks. There's the grandfather clause that I, and everyone should, abide by. There was a discussion several years ago and the consensus was to grandfather existing waymarks if new reviewers take over or if guidelines need to be updated. Now, from what this sounds like (correct me if I am wrong) is that wayfrog must have appointed someone to review an unfamiliar category. Given their new authoritative powers, they unfairly went back and sent many waymarks into a group vote, not being aware of how the category operated in the past. I hope this isn't the case. I haven't looked too far deep into this recent issue, so I am unfamiliar with what exactly is going on here...but I can speculate base on previous similar issues we've had in the past. What I recommend you do, if you are still an officer in the category, is to vote "approve" on all these votes and then set a vote to out the reviewer responsible for this. Unfortunately, with little involvement from HQ, Waymarking has turned into a hungry quest of power. Once power is in the wrong hands, that person could unleash chaos (as seen here). And I am speaking from experience that this has occurred several times in the past, specifically against me and other prolific waymarkers. If this continues, contact HQ directly. They are usually quick to respond to emails. I can also step in if needed as this issue includes some of my waymarks.
  15. When voting is over, I'll make those changes regardless if the category passes or not. That is something I didn't consider when I initially wrote up the category, so I appreciate the suggestion!
  16. These are my waymarks that were submitted to penny smashers, mistakenly approved some time ago. I submitted a newer one a few months ago, but it was denied. This denied one is the broken link in the examples.
  17. It seems that most people voting have no clue what the difference is between a "penny smasher" and "medallion machine". Let me define the differences in my own words: A penny smasher is a machine that, well, smashes a penny within the machine using a unique design, typically artistic and related to a tourism place of interest. A "medallion machine" dispenses prefabricated artistic medallions that can be purchased, usually at a higher dollar amount than that of a penny smasher. The #1 concern of voters is that these are penny smashers. Let me tell you...they are not. The examples I provided were mistakenly approved, well before this category (or forum discussion) was created. These types of submissions have not been accepted into Penny Smashers for quite some time, hence why one of the links is inactive. That inactive link is a denied waymark I tried to submit to that category. It will become live when I move that waymark over to this new category. The only "other examples" I can show are waymarks that shouldn't have been published into the existing Penny Smashers category When/if this category passes peer review, these waymarks that were mistakenly published in Penny Smashers will be denied so I can move them over to the category. I hope people will see that these two categories are indeed different, and I am trying my best to persuade others of that too despite, in my eyes, it's very clear. Again, if there are any issues, comments, or concerns please discuss it here. Thank you.
  18. Category has been submitted to peer review. Please vote and voice your comments (or concerns) here. Thank you!
  19. What is Plateresque? Could you define it and provide photos or examples?
  20. I think we would accept machines that require a paid ticket as well. For example, Disneyland has several thousands of waymarks already. I don't see a problem accepting machines that require a paid ticket.
  21. Thanks. I wanted to mirror the existing Penny Smasher category requirements as close as I could. No need to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.
  22. I will leave the proposal as is until Sunday night. After that, I'll call an officer vote before I submit this to peer review.
  23. Thanks! The first link is one of my waymarks that was declined in Penny Smashers. If this category gets approved, I'll resubmit it to this category and the link should be valid.
