  1. Thanks Headhardhat for the video and encouragement. I live in the snowbelt region of Lake Superior and snow cover approaches 36-40" inches. This amount of snow obscures any clues to most hiding places. For example, the snow would cover the stump and fallen tree shown in the video completely so searching would be trial and error. However some COs will hide caches in holes in trees or in other places that are above the snow line. Also snowshoes are required equipment in many cases. Its important for the CO to use the "Available in Winter" attribute. Sometimes we are also able to find caches on light poles etc. were the area has been plowed. Thanks again. I think I'll take a winter vacation to a snow-free area
  2. Yikes!! Thers is a "season"?? What's the fine for Geocaching "out" of season?? Where I live snow depth on the ground reaches about 3 feet. Many caches are buried in the snow and are not accessible or findable (is that a word) until the snow melts. Some caches may be high enough off the ground to find, but you would need snowshoes to get to them. Even if you want to seek some of these, the cold does not make it fun. So yes, in some areas, there is definitely and "out of season" for geocaching. I live in a small town with about 30 caches in a 5 mile radius. Only two of these have been found since the snow arrived in November.
  3. My son, 17, is a unicyler and my geocaching buddy. Two summers ago, he and two friends rode their unicycles 100 miles to raise money for 2 kids with leukemia. www.100milesfor2bigsmiles.com. They also juggle while unicycling. www.bobjasonben.com. Do you hunt caches while riding?
  4. Does iPad have GPS circuitry? Would a Geocaching app for iPad work?
  5. DW, I hope you do get to visit Eagle River again. Da UP has many interesting and challenging caches that are off the beaten path and many and are in very scenic areas. Thanks.
  6. As a friend yoopersnowman, you are forgiven. Thanks Gitchee. You are a blessing.
  7. I once was searching for the 1st stage of a 3 stage multi. I spent a lot of time looking and actually left and returned later but still could not find stage 1. I did not log as DNF, but considered my search "incomplete" as I plan to return this spring and continue the hunt.
