  1. I'll definately give them a heads up on the potential milage. I will give them the worse case scenerio as to the longest distance that they may have to encounter if they miss any parts or hidden secrets. It looks like its going to be 1/4 mile for the direct route to almost 2 miles if you miss the secret hidding spot. Swizzle

  2. I just turned my walking stick into a TB and I am trying to send it down the Northville/Lake Placid trail to get lots of scenery pics. Then maybe the Appellation trail. I was just wondering where you guys get those little metal Groundspeak tags that I've seen on a few different walking sticks? I think the walking stick TB's are really a cool idea and I would love to see more pics of the ones that you guys have. Nothing that's store bought, I want to see pics of original and hand carved and hand finished walking sticks. Swizzle

  3. Category owners like pictures to be included in waymarks for a variety of reasons, but I like them because it greatly enhances the individual waymark page, and shows proof that you actually went to the site.

I figured that it would be up to the individuals that visit the waymark to post a pic, not me. I am able to add a pic just not at this point in time. I still need to go back to the area and take a pic and then go to walmarts put it on a disk and then back to the computer that I'm borrowing to try to add the pic. I've done it before but its a big pain. That's why when I tried to enable the waymark I asked 2 questions to prove that someone had been there. Not everyone has a digital camera. I just think Waymarking could be more fun if it didn't require the pics. Geocaching doesn't require a photo with its caches and still pics get posted. I think it should be optional. I can agree that certain areas would be much better to use the pics as proof but when you have plaques or something man made that you can ask a question about then why isn't that acceptable? I feel that if a place is popular enough then the pics will come on there own. People always see something exciting on the trail on the way in and out and seeing a 100 pics of the same rusty car or resturant seems kinda like a waste of resources. Swizzle

  4. I use the Krylon plastic paint myself and have gotten excellent feedback from some of the finders. I put on a nice coat of black and follow it with brown and then green. Then I take a rag or a sponge while its all still wet and just dab the entire container. Then I carefully add some yellow spray paint. I press the nozzle just hard enough to make the paint splatter out of the nozzle and coat the lock n lock lightly with little yellow dots. It might sound weird but it really does look good. I also used just the brown and green with good effects. Coat the container in green and then grab some ferns or leaves from your back yard and hold them over the painted area and coat it with the brown paint. That will leave you with the green leaf effect. Experiment a little. I don't sand them or clean them I just put on a couple layers of paint and I haven't had a problem yet. Swizzle

  5. I tried setting up a waymark and it got denied because I didn't post a pic and I didn't "post it to the Waymarking site". I still don't have an answer as to where, why or how to "post it to the site" and why a pic is required. I sent a reply to the denial e-mail that I recieved 3 or 4 days ago and still have no reply to my questions. To me it seems like a lack of commitment on the part of the reviewer(s). It may be that they are really busy or on vacation or whatnot, but 3 or 4 days seems like more then enough time to answer 2 questions. Swizzle

  6. I'm getting closer to finishing my multi. I have one of those plastic dollar bill mazes that you need to get the little ball bearing through it to pop it open. Then a cryptogram to a cryptogram that reveals the secret to breaking the code. I'm adding a mask as well. I have a little bit of the storyline with most of the parts. I expect to get some good feedback after I place it. I should after all the work I've put into this cache so far. 10lbs of coins, 4 silver coins, a gold ring and a FTF geocoin for the main and a FTF geocoin for the bonus. Both Geocoins are unactivated. It'll be fun. Swizzle

  7. I understand that Waymarking is still going through its baby steps. I just don't see the need for a million different catagories. I guess if you were making a route for your family vacation and wanted to know where all the rest stops and resturants are then Waymarking can help you. Its just very rough and needs a lot of work. As far as getting another smily face, yeah its all well and good but its not vital. It seems to me like some people still need a gold star to see that they did a good job. Most of my geocaches take you to nice spots or short walks, one even goes to the best fresh water spring in the area. I agree that I like seeing my numbers go up with every cache I find, but the quailty of the cache is what makes it worthwhile. A really good hide, a prime location, a puzzle solved, a lesson learned. That's what keeps me coming back for more with GCing. It creates the sence of adventure. The allure of finding something hidden from view. It awakens the true heart of the explorer. Virtuals may be different in the aspect that there is no physical cache at that location but your not finding Yosimite Park. Your finding the little wonders that abound throughout the world. Fossilized sea beds, battle fields, important historical locations, gorges, overlooks and vistas that take you away. I always am at a loss for words in locations where I can see for miles. In essence its a drug that takes your mind away from your daily grind. There's nothing like staring off in the distance for an hour with nothing to do and no where to go. Just alone with your thoughts and all your thoughts aare peacefully. That's where virtuals should take you. Virtuals are the the heart and soul of cachin'. That's what I like about them. I'll check back in another year and see what's new with Waymarking if its still there but for now I'll stick with geocachin'. Swizzle

  8. O.K. it was denied because I didn't post a pick or post it on the Waymarking site? What was that form for that I filled out? I thought that was for Waymarking and is it vital to have a pic of the bridge posted? Swizzle

  9. It's good to see all the interest into making great multi's. I just spent two days drilling and creating one stage of this cache. Its a poly resin froggy that I drilled a big hole in the base and inserted part of a thermos for the cache spot. I then added the top of a fingernail polish applicator that's painted to look like a light bulb and placed in a drill hole between his eyes. Kinda looks like Signal the frog's Uncle Sigmond. For another stage I have a painted squirt gun. It's a basic small town robbery storyline. Money is hidden, guy sends a letter to his wife, then gets caught, goes to jail and is never heard from again. I got the storyline done for the cache page. I'm having a bit of trouble with the first part "the letter to wifey" and a secret hidden decoder. There will be a puzzle to solve that will lead you to another puzzle that will tell you where the decoder is hidden or if your observant and check all parts of each stage then you won't need to solve the puzzle. Should I have a storyline for each stage or just give the hint and coordinates to the next stage? Swizzle

  10. Alright I'll do it. But I'm not going to tag every backwoods lake or giant boulder I see. How about for starters the last covered bridge in my county (next to 2 sets of waterfalls). A small gorge and a cliff overlooking a lake. Just a question about Waymarking...For ex: I want you to see the lake from a cliff or the top of a rock face. Can I set it up like a multi to allow them the easiest trail to the summit? I'll go check it out and actually try improving my area choices by Waymarking the highlights. Can you make people send you a pic of the virtual as proof or is it best to ask a question about the area that they would know unless they were there? Swizzle

  11. This multi is close to a 3 stage multi, a traditional, and a micro. I have big plans for this area and will be setting up almost 10 caches all withing 2 or 3 miles. I have plans for a micro, a traditional, another short multi, and a puzzle cache. All 4 of those will need to be completed to get the coordinates for a multi night cache. I may also have a multi stage that 1/2 will be done during the day and the other half at night. I'm not sure yet. It's going to be a virtual cache kingdom when I'm done. Swizzle

  12. I like the basic idea of Waymarking and virtuals. I just checked out Waymarking for a 50 mile radius around my zipcode and I can visit a variety of cool things. How about for starters a McDonalds in another town or a Walmart or one of the many payphones waymarked in my area or the two twisted car wrecks in the woods?!? I'm sorry but that is just tagging too many items. I want to see gorges and cliffs and panoramic views and vistas or visit a cool park. I don't want to visit a payphone or a rusted relic in the woods. Maybe some of the many mill ruins that dates back to the 1800's and earlier, or some adirondack lean-to's and an island on a backwoods lake. I think there should be some limitations on what can be logged as a waymark. It's a great site, but with payphones and rusted junk it looks like it may turn into a dump site. There are books available that tells you of every historical marker in the U.S. so I can't see posting those either unless there is some eye candy to go along with it. Please don't take this the wrong way but until trash like that has some type of limitations put on it then I don't see much reason to visit a seperate website. I love geocaching and hate the fact that virtuals have been grandfathered. They should be bought back. Geocaching is only 6 years old and virtuals in my opinion are as much a part of geocaching as finding a cache box. To each there own. Some like evil micro's and multi's others like night stalkers and traditional and puzzle caches. Each have there own following and I feel that virtual caches also have a following. If you don't like virtuals then place them on your ignore list, but don't do away with this great aspect of treasure hunting. I love to see the view from a fire tower just as much as a 4yr old likes seeing the latest burger king toy in a ammo can. Swizzle

  13. I have to agree with you. I think eliminating the virtual caches was strange. I found Lester Park to be a nice refreshing site cache that I never would have known about. I know of a local gorge that I would like to turn into a virtual cache as well. Why were virtuals done away with anyway? Swizzle

  14. The way it will be set up is for a wide variety of people. After the bonus treasure is gone most people will just decide to go directly to the main. To go directly to the main is 3 stages and all 3 stages should be only 1/4th to 1/2 mile round trip. To get the bonus and for braggin rights you have the choice to go the long way and do some hill climbing. The extra hiking should still keep the whole course within the 1 mile range. So for older people or people with little kids going directly to the main will be easy enough. If your young tough and bored go the high road to glory. Swizzle

  15. Have you tried finding out who the local land managers are and contacting them?

No I haven't tried to contact land management. They would probably want to know how I can sleep at night thinking about TP in their woods 50 miles from my bed.

The place is in need of a public toilet as well. Its miles from a toilet so now there is a nice TP trail with a cache in the middle. The cacher doesn't advertise CITO so I assume we are suppose to admire the beautiful TP tulips?!?

    I would not assume that.

I guess that was kind of a stupid statement, huh!

It just makes me wonder why people place caches in spots like this without advertising CITO? Swizzle

  16. I'm setting up a treasure hunt multi cache. It's a story line, puzzle cache. It's going to have 2 seperate paths. A short direct path to the main cache and the long way around which will take you the long way through every step of the hunt to get puzzle pieces to find a bonus cache. There is going to be a 10# coin cache for a ftf on the bonus and a pic of the coins that tells the following finders that the treasure has been found. I think its going to be an awesome cache. I want to know what you guys and girls have seen and liked most about multi's that you've done. Even if its only one stage that you thought was very well done in any multi. I'm not looking to give away secrets to any particular caches so please don't comprimize any caches by giving the name of the cache. I just want to set up a great cache instead of another so-so o.k. cache. I have 8 parts to create and most of the spots are already chosen, although I may change a few of the locations. Are there any multi's that you really liked that stick out in your mind and why? Swizzle

  17. This cache was originally placed in 2003. The original reviewer is from NJ and the cache is in NY. I already sent the NJ administarter an e-mail about 4 or 5 days ago with no reply. I also tried to click on the enable cache button and posted a note that I want to revive this cache. That was yesterday and still no reply yet. Hopefully I'll get a reply in the next day or 2 but until then I can only wonder. I hate to try to be pushy because I know these guys are volunteers and don't deserve the hastle. So in the meantime I'll stare at my screen and wait. Swizzle
