  1. I guess my comment is what is wrong with the present system and how does the proposed new system correct those problems? Jim
  2. and if you found and took any travel bugs or geocoins make sure you go to the trackables page and enter the tracking number. On the traverlers page you can log you retrieved the traveler. When you log a cache where you dropped the traveler there will be a drop down near the bottom of the log page for you to "drop" the traveler into the new cache.
  3. Could you give us a bit more information on what you are doing. Are you trying to transfer a .loc file or .gpx file? In the mean time here are some sites to check: Geocaching-U GGA site If that doesn't help give a shout. Jim
  4. $5? They sell 2/3rd of a cup of coffee? Well if you want that fancy back east stuff your out of luck. If you settle for just coffee you get at least 2 cups. Jim
  5. Your probably thinking of the $5 starbucks card. You get them at one of your local Starbucks coffee shop. Jim
  6. Thank you for making clear which one is the jerk. Sorry to hear that sandbox 101 was one of your hard subjects. Apparently they didn't let you retake it. Maybe the placement is 0 because every time he was going to place one he checked and found one within 0.1 mile. You know if you don't want to do a LPC or some other matchstick in a pile of leaves hide sometimes it is hard to find a spot in a nice area. Jim
  7. Well, I guess it is better than starting a NEW thread. Oh, dear, I just bumped it. Jim
  8. What!?! no travel bug so you can get a map of its travels? Jim
  9. Talk about blind luck, I went with GSAK instead of bookmarks. Of course that makes the drop downs a bit long
  10. Thanks Jim, we were hoping someone would come forward for those maps. I remember getting one at the top of the hill and then down at the bottom at Ft. Ward. So go for it as well as map 500. dick Dick Just to avoid confusion later, Map 500 is the only map that does not have an active cache already on it. This is planned to be addressed on the KCC listing. Map 593 has GCB0DD Blake Island Summit in it. ah, the "won't be doing that one" cache, of course. I was suggesting putting one that is a bit more accessible to the majority of cachers. Apparently that is not desired. Jim
  11. late to the party, but there is also a window app FizzyCalc . In addition to the conversions it also does distance, waypoint projections and other useful things. Jim
  12. What about map 593? Got any caches for that one? I was thinking of maybe putting one in Ft. Ward, would that help? Anything planned for map 500? If you want I could go take a look. Jim
  13. The real question is, why would you want to? because they are better than a LPC?
  14. It is even worse than you mention in the state of Washington. First you must obtain and publish an impact statement on the impact of archiving your geocache. Only after you have shown that removing the cache will not impact future generations of cachers are you allowed to proceed. Before sanitizing the area you must also publish and abatement plan that shows how you will return the site to the pre-cache state. Of course the importing and placing black bears and coyotes in an urban area is always very controversial. One wonders why you want to place a cache in the first place. Some times I wish I lived in New Jersey where 93 of the 96 known elements are in the drinking water and folks have other things to worry about than the archiving of a cache. Jim
  15. The round disc is actually a sub-ether transmitter, and the post is a marker for a flying saucer landing zone. Jim
  16. I don't use it , but logicweave is another option. Jim
  17. So if there is this trail in a park and a dozen different cachers want to place a cache along this trail, about the 3rd guy or so and for all the rest the reviewer would say "nope, to bad, your making a power trail"? Seems a bit heavy handed to me. Jim
  18. statute as in staute miles (feet) as opposed to nautical miles. Your in the right area, press enter when that selection is highlighted and you should be able to chose metric. Jim
  19. Never seen a 300 before, but the other garmin you can set the units. Try looking on the system setup menu. You might take a look at the map setup menu for any map orientation options. Jim
  20. Power Trail – A path with a large number of easy traditional caches placed every 1/10th of a mile. Like a Cache Machine, it's another way for people to easily increase their Find count. As such, it is looked down upon by some. For more questions look here
  21. Is there a reason why Liberty Bay Resort (GCHRJ9) was chosen? Is this the ONLY cache on that page? This is a level 5 terrain cache because it requires a BOAT. I think many will not attempt the challenge because of this one cache. 0.02 worth, Jim
