  1. Small rocks on low cut stumps I would imagine is someone leaving a marker for navigation. But I've seen large rocks on stumps 8-10 foot high. I've seen boulders on large stumps 10 or so feet high. The large rocks and boulders must have been placed with an excavator. If not I really don't want to get that dude mad. TIA, Jim

    Age?

I remember when there were no satellites. I remember when the only space flight was done by Flash Gordon. Jim
  3. If there is a cache in the state park I don't understand why a TB would be a problem. Or are you asking about placing a cache? Jim
  4. with over 500,000 caches to find I'm not particularly worried if someone decided not to make another LPC just so they can puff out their chest and say they made a hide. Jim
  5. Would you please let us know which ferry you decide on? I will take steps to avoid using that ferry since the large contingent of WSP and other officious personnel once it is found will probably make for a bad day.
  6. You present some reasonable arguments. I would agree 100% IF the units were no longer in production. But they are still selling both the 60/76 series. It still might be a business trade off, or it could be some design decision made years ago would preclude a simple firmware upgrade or the current product firmware engineers are simply overloaded with the multiple Colorado issues. Jim
  7. I'd hardly call the Washington State policy stringent. They are asking you to speak to the ranger, describe your cache location and fill out a contact information sheet. They do have the right to say no to a location and/or suggest a better one and ask that you agree to a maintenance plan. Some states have fees involved in placing caches in their parks, limits on how many caches per park they will permit (regardless of how large the park is) and firm time limits on how long a cache can be in place. Ok, I will state this in another way.Stringent was apparently the wrong word to use, and not meant in the negative way that you interpreted it. My point in the whole thing, was that Minnesota (and now Utah, as Hydnsek mentioned) literally ask, for caches to be placed in their State Parks. Here in Washington State, there are still rules and regulations/ guidelines to follow in order to place one in one of our parks, and it is not an advertised invite by them, as in Minnesota and Utah. Not saying the things that our State Parks request we do, to place one here are wrong (or difficult to complete), but they are not asking, like the other states. I feel we have a very beautiful state, and I am sure the state parks think so too, hence the guidelines they have in place in regards to geocaching and protecting the environment.....not a bad thing. No, I think stringent is the correct term. I'm trying to get one placed in a state park nearby. 1. The application has to be approved by authorities higher than local level. No telling how long that will take. 2. The permit expires Dec. 31 this year, yes, about 9 months. The approval cycle eats into this time. 3. I have to agree to maintain the cache on a monthly basis. The state level approval can add even more restrictions and requirements, ones that I don't even know about yet. 4. I have to display special boilerplate on the cache page. 5. If I want to go beyond the nine months I have to go through this whole mess again. MN, UT and perhaps other states ASK for caches to be placed in their parks. WA encourages you to NOT place a cache. Stringent, difficult, bothersome and many other terms come to mind. This will probably be the first and last cache I place in state parks. Jim
  8. I clean bird poop out of cuckoo clocks.
  9. Close. Enjoy the hunt and log. Maybe leave a TB or coin. If a TB or coin is present it is going with me. No swag needed. Jim
  10. It is sort of a broad question. Yours or others? or caches in general? Jim
  11. Wally world has some. I've heard Target also has them. Jim
  12. That's not actually true. Yeah...off by a few years there!! More like a year. SA was turned off midnight May 1, 2000. Jim
  13. Duracell NiMH. All day (6-7 hours) always on, full backlight and I still have a couple bars. Charge them up the night before and still haven't dipped into the backups. Jim
  14. That is one of two. The other one is Silver Creek Again (aka 3rd times the charm) (GCNXTW). Unfortunately both have had smilies on google maps for some time for me. Jim
  15. But maybe they did and decided it needed a bit better camo job ... Jim
  16. It's not a lost thrill for me. Finding a new place and signing the log are pretty thrilling. Finding a coin to move makes it all the more thrilling. I'm not much into swag. Jim
  17. My heart goes out to you. It must be hard slogging through swamps and other nasty areas. Adam is very inconsiderate, he should be working on finding Wally World LPC's, Park'n'Ride LPC's and of course the delightful dumpster hides. Then you would not have to contend with muddy legs. Jim
  18. surprising it says it is a sig item right on the passport with it. Jim
  19. I think you would be better off posting this on Geocaching.com Web site. That is the forum for feature requests and site comments. You might get a better response there. I'm not blowing you off, just pointing out the more appropriate forum. Jim
  20. A Day at the Beach (GCT8G5) is now active again. You can now choose one of two for map 473. Jim
  21. why would you want to buy a logbook when you can download and print practically for free? Jim For one, the logsheets that you can download only have room for initials or a name. Some people like to have real logbooks, where people can write real logs. well, most that I use have lines, just like note book paper and are a couple inches wide. Nothing says they have to limit themselves to one line. I suppose I could go buy something and then cut it up, but it seems simpler to put some rite in the rain paper in the printer and push the print button. Jim
  22. Nice attitude. I can only hope I don't have your attitude after geocaching for as long as you have and posting 500+ times. ... Yea, I can really see where that is paying off for you quite well. You wouldn't work full-time for the IRS would you? Sorry Quadcity, you don't push the publish button so I must agree with Kit Fox, it really doesn't matter how you see it, it only matters how the reviewer sees it. After all, that is what he/she is getting paid for. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot, they don't get paid. Need some suggestions on good nomex undies Jim
