  1. The kids I know, all know that in a public forum (and I mean any forum, not just online ones -- talking to any person older than them in any situation, for example), they should try to present themselves well. Do I have a problem with kids talking like kids to other kids? Not at all. So suggesting that someone speak in more-or-less complete sentences, have reasonably good spelling (at least make it look like you tried), use some semblance of punctuation, and take a shot at capitalization in order to be taken seriously is being harsh. Fine. I'm harsh. And a gurk.
  2. +1 I can't believe even one of the moderators jumped on this kid. Pick on someone your own size. This is the way to ask for constructive comments about a new website: Notice the complete sentences? Notice the punctuation? Notice the absence of l33t and silly abbreviations? Notice how that sounds like someone who's earnestly interested in learning from others? This deserves to be blown off: as does this: King Riched's been told on numerous occasions that the way he presents himself in the forums is likely to provoke exactly the kind of responses he got. It appears he's not interested in listening and learning.
  3. How do you know he didn't write that material, too? Oh, that's right . . . everything's spelled correctly, and it uses capitalization and punctuation. Never mind.
  4. I'm sure Signal is proud to see the Groundspeak logo there -- even if it's out of focus.
  5. Well, one would be a good place to start. I'm kinda thinking he could build from there.
  6. Now I'm really confused. It it Elk County? Or Llama County? And is there just one llama there? Or are there many llamas there? You see, the previous post referred to llamas with an 's', which would normally denote the plural form of the word, indicating that there are two or more of them. However, the singular verb 'is', would suggest that there might, in fact, be only a single llama. And if there is only a single llama, then what's being done to prevent the species from dying out in Llama County, since they won't be able to reproduce? Or will they just go back to being Elk County then? Or maybe there's some kind of clandestine llama cloning operation going on there, so they only need a single llama. And we never settled the question as to how many elk there are in Llama County -- or Elk County, for that matter. My brain hurts. Send in the clones?
  7. There's a Crow Wing County in Minnesota. Where were they when I needed them? And no Snail County, either.
  8. How many elk are there? And swallows? How about llamas? And why isn't there a Llama County? I'm sensing some discrimination here . . .
  9. broken tags !!!! exclamation points !!!!
  10. Which (singular) one of us are you calling a 'gentleman?' I am offended by your presumption...you, who should know better. My Dear Crow, I stand corrected! "Ladies, gentlemen, and kids of all ages" My most humble and hearfelt apologies for this egregious breach of etiquette! Please, allow me to blame the early morning hour and lack of coffee for such an unpardonable occurrence! How about if we just Blame Canada instead?
  11. Maybe he meant Gurkha. Maybe his caches are in Nepal? But then why would he be posting in the Northeast US forum? I'm so confused.
  12. Pretty much anyone from Elk County would be a Pennsylvanian, wouldn't they?
  13. In the Chicago area (as is done in many other areas) we often place caches honoring 1000-milestone caches. Most often, the person being honored is given the lat/long before it's published so they can be the first to hunt for it. The one I placed recently, I asked the reviewer to review, but not publish, the cache. Once the honoree let me know he'd found it, I had it published. If someone's self-esteem is so caught up in being FTF that this gets their knickers in a knot . . . . that's just too dadgum bad. Somebody needs to get a life, in that case.
  14. That Cheesehead Dave is quite a guy! A role model for us all to aspire to.
  15. No, it's the Titanium Members who are better.
  16. The only numbers that matter are your own, and they matter only to you. If your counts represent to you a fair and accurate picture of your own caching activity, then all is well with the world. As a cache owner, it is up to you as to how aggressively you wish to audit "found it" logs and how aggressively you wish to follow up on questionable logs. Beyond that, you need seek no further, grasshopper.
  17. So did you go to the events? Like uper, I had about a half-dozen Jeeps from Geobash because there were so many still available on Sunday morning. I took them to some of our Chicago-area events and even there I still had trouble giving them away because our local group had received some and distributed ALL of them -- a large number by placing them in caches, and the others at events. If you have issues with how your own local group distributed them, you should take it up with your group. If the problem is that you didn't attend the events where they were available, that's not their fault.
