  1. Thanks. I checked the Mapopolis website and was confused by their product. Does it include the CF GPS? The specification says the GPS is "Powered from car cigarette lighter" and "Built in rechargeable battery provides memory backup and fast time to first fix". But the description says "The CF card draws from your PDA's battery so no separate charging cable or power supply is necessary."
  2. I would like to buy a Compact Flash GPS for my PDA along with mapping software that will run on PPC 2002. It will be used mostly for driving navigation. It needs to have auto-routing and also be able to import waypoints (or waypoint files). If you have any experience please post here and include links to products and product reviews.
  3. Or you can see more stuff if you bring or rent bikes. In summary, if you're into trading items, the caching sux. If you're into hiking and exploring, the caching is awesome.
  4. I just got back from the Keys. In general, the caches are pretty lame, but the hikes and scenery are great. This picture was from our favorite: End of the Road Also, check out Look down, Pull up. It's a micro, but the hike is cool.
  5. I'm going down there tomorrow for a week or so. I'll give you an update after my trip.
  6. Uh-oh. Check out the logs on this cache: Mrs. Suzy Q's Ladies Night Out Cache Event
  7. FloridaCaching.com is down while power is out at Nomad's house. I spoke with him on the phone and the Nomads are doing OK, just waiting for power.
  8. Good thing I didn't get my pool enclosure fixed quickly.
  9. Most of the damage in the Orlando area was due to downed trees. I had a large tree in my backyard fall on my roof and pool enclosure. My roof was slightly damaged and my pool enclosure was totalled. And I learned a painful lesson about my hurricane deductible. Doh! Oh, did I mention my wallet was a lot lighter?
  10. I'm kinda partial, but here are my favorites to do with kids: Monkee Micro Fun Micro #1 Fun with flashlights
  11. Yes. I had my cigarette adapter cable come unscrewed and expose the in-line fuse. Just had to put it back together again. No sparks.
  12. Seems like a plausible answer. I was wondering if, as satellites come and go during the night, the GPS was getting "handed off" from sat to sat and during each hand-off there may be introduction of error. Thanks for the help
  13. Yea, I know. But examining the uploaded track points shows that it was still "wandering" several hours after turning it on and acquiring satellites. I know the unit's OK and that this wandering is normal. Just wanted an explanation why it occurs.
  14. I put my GPS in my vehicle mount an left it out on the driveway overnight and found out the next morning that my GPS had wandered around during the night. See this image: Questions: 1. What is the most likely explanation for this track? 2. I repeated this procedure the next night and there was no track. How does it happen one night and not the next?
  15. Well, I guess it's time to clean up the mess from April 1. If you have FIND logs on this cache, please change them to note logs. DNFs and note logs are OK. Thanks for the fun!
  16. I'd be honored! And thanks to all for their kind words. It was a riot.
  17. Yep. I thought about that too, so I didn't log in my personal travel bug. That would have really skewed things for me. Is there anyway to go about deleting your log at this point? My log is still intact on My Cache Page, I can delete it form there if I want. The cache page is history though. It really is too bad. It should have been added to the annals of Geocaching history Oh yeah. I hadn't thought about that and I agree. It was a bunch of harmless fun that brought some levity to the day. I can't remember an April Fools day where I had such enjoyment. Yea, but isn't it cool that TPTB didn't squash this thing early on and allowed us to have our fun? Thanks Crow T Robot and gc.com!
  18. About 5 seconds of thought went into the whole April Fools Cache idea so the coords are base on our lat N28° and long W81°. The minutes are 12.345 and 54.321. Isn't that cool? You weren't singled out, but now everybody knows where you live!
  19. I deleted just yours! Too many disturbing images came to mind. Now I think I need therapy. Besides, my kids might read it.
  20. Looking at things in retrospect, I'll admit to sharing some portion of the blame for not lassoing things in when they got increasingly negative. I kind of assumed things would work themselves out without getting to the point that they did, and also that one of the other moderators would have jumped in if they felt things were out of hand. I think that the "debate" that was taking place in general was an important one (i.e. some behaviors that reflected negatively on the hobby, imho) but the manner in which it was transpiring was definitely not productive anymore. Well, I'm the only other moderator who had admin authority on that forum and I did "jump in". First, I gave a delete warning about the personal attacks. I thought the debate was healthy but there was no reason to say bad things about other cachers. Second, I ended up (promptly) deleting personal attack posts, on each "side" of the argument. I remember spending my Saturday going back and forth to the computer making sure the flames didn't get too high in the forum. But these actions weren't enough to prevent some <insert expletive here> from sending Info hate mail.
  21. This site have a very active forums section, but the key feature of the site was the detailed stats. Stats were broken down by area and cachers were ranked by points, hides, and finds. It was awesome.
  22. Anybody in Florida willing to take on this labor of love?
