  1. Added three new countries thanks to our honeymoon: Sri Lanka (4 caches), Maldives (1 cache) and Qatar (1 cache). Not bad. Now I'm up to 31 and looking forward to the 32nd in september (Japan). Before that it is unlikely, though I have some countries not far away which I'm missing (namely Malta, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, Vatican City, Morocco; and then the Balkans). (Also Gibraltar, but I think it's not counted separately, is it?).

  2. Two weeks ago I went for a work trip to the USA and managed to add two more states to my list (Kansas & Missouri), extending my states list to 3  I know this is nothing for you guys who live in the USA, but for me living 8000km apart is nice :)

For november I am about to book flights to Rome for a three-day visit, which will allow me to hopefully grab a cache in the Vatican, which would be my 28th country.

  3. Obviously after the wedding :D

We are looking to go somewhere east from Europe (that is, Asia or Oceania) and my [future wife] girlfriend would like somewhere with nice weather and beaches. I thought of a combined trip Philippines/Australia, or even Somewhere+Seychelles for example. Will keep looking. But of course I'll obtain at least another new country :P

  5. About to book a trip to Portugal in two weeks - that would be my 27th country. :)

Wait, don't you live in Spain (Catalan)?

Yes, I live in Catalonia (and speak Catalan). Why? :)

It was just a light hearted jab at the irony of finding caches in many different countries but not the one next door. I've found caches in 21 countries and even though I live in the U.S. I haven't found any in Canada (about a 3 hour drive from here) or Mexico. I'll finally get Mexico next weekend. I'm hoping to get back to Catalonia some day. I only spent about 2.5 days in Barcelona and would like to explore a bit more of that part of the world.

Okay! I didn't get it :) Actually Portugal is quite far for us, I mean, it has border with Spain but I wouldn't go there by car. Also when looking for places to visit in Europe I tend to look north and east but to forget the west (which only includes Portugal). But I will visit some day obviously...

... but not in two weeks. We have decided for a four-day trip to Italy which will include a visit to San Marino: my 27th country in GC and 37th country I've visited. :)

If you're going to be in Rome you can also get Vatican city/state. I'm fairly close to the Canadian border in the north east so it would be about a 30 hour drive to Mexico.

I left Rome out for another time... One needs at least 3 days to visit it properly, I guess.

  7. Went to Malta last weekend for country number 39! Yay! And it was my 26th country in Europe to boot...

Congrats. I wonder if there is anyone else here that has found caches in more countries than their age.

    Me :) 26 countries > 24 years old.

I started a new job last week and now I am working a lot of hours, thus leaving me few hours to go geocaching in the middle of the week, and looks like (as the colleague says above) on weekends I will be quite tired so my geocaching finds will not grow as fast as it used to. But this job will allow me to travel a lot, hopefully to new places :)

  8. Just came back from my north european trip - found 23 caches in total in Belarus, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Now that's 5 more countries for me, to a sum of 26!! :P

The Baltic countries were excellent to visit!

I would second your assessment of the Baltic States. I had no idea, for example, that Riga has such a rich collection of Art Nouveau architecture. Pretty heavy on mystery caches, though, so do some homework if you plan to go.

I was too lazy to solve misteries, we only did grab traditionals, plus two webcams (one in Helsinki and one in Pärnu) :)

  9. I got a voucher for future travel on an airplane because of a malfunctioning seat on the flight home on my last trip to Rome. I've been considering several options for how to use it and one is to take a 3 day weekend to fly to Puerto Rico.

Now that's being lucky (at least for me :) ). Please keep this thread going, it's the most interesting one in the GC forums.

In my case, I have my trip planned for 19-25 September, the itinerary will be: Barcelona - Minsk (1.5 days there), Minsk - Helsinki (stopover to grab a couple of caches), Helsinki - Tallin (by ferry), then 3 days with rental car in the Baltic countries. In total, that will be 5 new countries for me, and hopefully an enjoyable trip with my girlfriend :)

Moreover!! I was looking at next week and I might be purchasing a ryanair flight from Girona (my town) to Pisa (two-way for less than 60eur), go and return in two consecutive days, so I can visit San Marino and add another new country to my list. That sounds a bit crazy, and indeed is, but as you said before, living in Europe allows you do to such things  anyone been to San Marino?

  10. Caches are a bit thin on the ground in Brunei, so budget some time for getting to one.

I ended up with one find there, Mar-Cat* after a DNF elsewhere, and found transportation a challenge. Both buses and taxis are thin on the ground. It's a rich country; everybody drives their own car - or boat.

(* Conveniently, it's also the oldest cache in the teeny country, which helps me with a challenge...)

I've pretty well accepted that I won't be getting one there. We will be on a shore excursion and won't have much time to spend on our own. There aren't any near the places the tour takes us to and there's nothing near the cruise ship terminal. Usually, I can go for a walk near the ship, but not here.

If I get one I'll be content. If not, as I keep trying (unsuccessfully) to persuade Gill - Caching isn't the point of the trip. I may come to believe that myself if I say it often enough. :D

maybe try to place an earthcache there... :)

  11. Usually, my method is:

    1) Find a cache which is interesting somehow. It can either be: high D/T cache, missing in my D/T matrix, special experience, lots of favs, etc.

    2) Check how to get there

    3) check for caches around the "main" cache.

    4) then, we do some "easy" caches for warm-up, then do the "main" cache, then settle down with more "easy" caches. It might happen that there are more than 1 interesting cache (hopefully :))

Other times, we just aim for covering an area as much as we can.

  12. I'm setting up a vacation trip to Helsinki + Baltic countries for September. That would be 4 new countries for me (for a total of 25). I'm also exploring the possibility to add Minsk to the end of the route and then return to Barcelona from there. Anyone has been to Belarus, and can tell me more about the visa? Looks like it would cost me 45$, but I don't know if I will have trouble obtaining it.

  13. We have pretty well finalised out big trip to Europe next year and we may be getting 15 new countries. The flights aren't confirmed yet, but we hope to fly Sydney to Venice via Singapore (1) and get the cache in T3.

3 nights in Venice, Italy (2) and then through Croatia (3) to Split and Dubrovnik and on to Montenegro (4).

Back up the coast to Ljubljana, Slovenia (5) and Budapest, Hungary (6). We then get a river cruise via Austria (7), Germany (8) to Amsterdam, Netherlands (9).

Then we hire a car and drive through Belgium (10) with a detour through Germany and France (11) to Luxembourg (12) caching in 5 countries in 1 day.

Then Luxembourg through France to Switzerland (13) where we spend a week, including a day in Liechtenstein (14).

We fly back to Sydney via an overnight stay in either Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Bangkok (15).

We will be caching in 22 of 26 cantons of Switzerland.

Looking forward to this trip as it takes me to places I haven't seen in 50 years, plus 5 countries I've never visited. Gill has only been to France (and not these parts of France) so it will all be new to her.

Wow!! Very nice plan indeed... you are very ambitious! :)

I just came back from Mexico & Canada - 1 new country for me (Canada) that is the 21st where I've geocached in, and my 30th visited state over my entire life. List is growing. :)

  14. I'm just about to book my trip to Mexico DF for a conference, and luckily I've been able to secure a long layover in Toronto departing from Madrid :)) this means that, if everything goes according to the plan, I will be able to geocache in my 21st country (Canada). Mexico is already on my list. This will be in mid-July, cannot wait!

  15. Added 5 new countries last Friday on my way to Giga in Mainz. Also, done 8 countries in one day on that trip. Started at 0:15 in Croatia and ended at 23:45 in Belgium. Those 8 countries were: Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Well done :) we should have met in Mainz.

My next trip will be probably to a conference in Mexico DF. Since I already have Mexico on my visited list (though not the capital, but Riviera Maya), I will try to stop in Colombia, since there is an airline which flies from Madrid to DF over Bogotá. We'll see
