I have been playing this game for several weeks now and have hidden one of their "treasure" boxes that they sent to me. Its a great add on to regular caching which I have been doing for 5 years now. THe online part is awesome if you like brain puzzles, and the live hunt part is just like geocaching, except you don't have to leave anything for the things you are instructed to take. Points are built up when making finds or solving puzzles and the top point gatherers are entered in the drawing to compete for the grand prizes. You can get in anytime because all of the puzzles are available to start solving. Come on and join the fun.

I too am guilty of short log posts. This happens mostly when I have been out on a long day and had 20 or more finds and just don't have much to write about most of them. When something special does happen or I see a danger, something interesting, or just feel mouthy then I write about it. Take yesterdays cache for example. I was FTF on a cache thats been out for a week. Rare around here. It was difficult getting to and worse getting out. I typed for 10 minutes on the log and my wife told me I was spending too much time on it. It was the only find of the day so I let loose in detail. I am sure any readers will get a chuckle out of our exploits. Thats what makes a log worth reading too. I have seen some that were as boreing as reading a phone book but went on forever. Gusee it just depends on the reader and the writer combo. I do like to hear if my caches were enjoyed with more than a TFTH.

I agree with rpecot, those sound like the normal cache around Southeast Louisiana. If you can just reach out the car door, whats the point.

Looks like the secret to big daily numbers is cache density and virgin territory for the cacher. Personally I only occasionally venture away from my local area, but I make the trip count when I do. My personal best is 26 in one day and that was over 4 states. I even had time to stop off at Hooters for some wings. Before you get skeptical consider you can get from Louisiana to Florida on I-10 in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Just venture off the interstate a little and get started before daylight, go untill you drop and its easy. Sounds what a lot of other cachers did on this post. I also had a 16 day (plus the Magallan treasure find) and an 18 day once but they were all pretty close. together and I wasn't rushing.

OK, CajunRain and I are in for the Couchon De Lait. I grew up a few miles from the CDL Capotol of the World and its been a long time since I have been to a good Boucherie too so this is something for me to look foreward to. The last CDL I attended was in Michigan while in the Army. We actually loaded all the fixings on to a C130 transport plane with our gear and had a cook out up there with the Yankees. After taking polite portions of the boudin, rice dressing, and other stuff they came back for several more LARGER helpings. How could you go wrong with a head cook named "SLAB" Bacon. That was decades ago and I am long overdue for another major dose of chlorestrol. We will probably take off Friday and get up there early this time. Setting up camp in the dark was a pain. See ya all there.

As aways, CajunRain and I will try to make it. As many of you know I tend to carry too much gear for a pack in so it will have to be a drive by for me. I could get by with a leanto and box
of matches but mama wants to bring the house

OK, enough about me and countless others that decide to go caching instead of camping out in the forums. I visit occasionally as you can see by my whopping 30 something posts in just over 2 years. I asked a simple question and some people have to exhibit their superiority by blasting me for not reading the answer burried in the bowels and debths of someone elses question string. So I don't read every word printed here, big deal. From what I have read over half of it is something negative from one cacher to another about some simple, innocent statement or question that gets blown WAAAAAAY out of proportion. I just wish these people would stop squabbling like little kids and try to start working together. Can you imagine the good that could be done if merritus topics were discussed as vigorusly as flameing is. Sorry, but I just dont have time to read the ramblings of adolesent babble. You know who you are, the ones that are going to make negative comments about this post are just who I am referring to. So this is my que to exit these well intentioned yet abused hallowed halls for a while. Maybe in a few months I will peak back in to see if there were any positive changes. Untill then, safe and happy caching to all, even the adolescent babblers.

My wife found her first cache while I was trying to get a fix on the sats. So you do not need a GPSr for all of them. You can get a used GPSr on Ebay if you want to start inexpensivly. I started with a cheap unit, but now I have a mapping unit, laptop, tracking software, and more KRAP than you can shake my expensive hiking stick at. Try it without and when the bug bites you, get a GPSr. Welcome to out game, good luck and safe caching to you

Finally someone else has picked up on my idea (See the Toy Story series of caches in Louisiana that I placed last year). I was going to do 8 in the series also but stopped with 4 because a very inconsiderate cacher started posting the codes on his web site. I hope you have better luck with it than I did. By the way, I called it a Progressive Series. If interested you can check out my MICRO MANIA series too. I called it a Wagon Wheel series because you could go to one location to get the coordinates to 5 caches, all eminating from that one spot like the spokes of a wheel. It took some convincing to get it approved because the original coordinates were all so close together for these 5 multi minis. Good luck with it.

why is there a score in anything? Because for some it does matter. All it is worth is braging rights so for those that do not care just ignore it and let the ones who get some fun out of it enjoy it. No one complained when the other stats page was up and going but now all of a sudden its going to be such a bad thing and bad cachers are the only ones who will participate? Please people, let me enjoy this my way and I will let you enjoy it your way. As long as neither way interferes with the other, whats the problem? I enjoy the friendly rivalry that certain cachers have developed because in my unique case it ensures that I get to go out caching more often and further away. Since there are no iron clad rules in this game lets just all get along.

For as long as I can remember all state parks in Louisiana have had a $2 per car, 50 cents for all pasangers over a total of 4, entrance fee. I am foutunate to have a pass due to my Disabled Vet status. But every other state I go to I have to pay to get into state parks. If I think about it I sorta paid in advance for that pass card. Anyway, entry fees for state parks are only new there. You shopuld feel lucke to have gotten away for free for this long, and enjoy the $2 while you can. I get the feeling all of them are soon going to be increasing their prices.

I for one think this is great. Its about time the noncaching public at large starts to see the benefits of this sport. Now will someone please send this article to the National Parks Service. If we all send a copy to them they might wake up and realize how counter productive their ban on caching in the parks really is. I know if I went near a park that had a few caches in it thats where I would have to stop for a while, even go out of my way to get there. So lets all copy this article and email it to the NPS. If enough of us do they might get the message.

Does anyone know what happened to the states stats pages on Insidecorner.com? My links for them have not worked for weeks and the main site does not come up either. I would appreciate any info anyone has about it.

I have noticed that too and wondered what was up, but did not expend too much energy on it. As was said before, the user stats page is always correct so I just go by that when looking up my stats or other users.

OK its time for me to pipe up. I know I am going to regret this ....but.... some of the most fun cache logs I have read are those from accidental finders who really do not know what they have found but followed the lead of those before them and wrote their experience in the log book. This hardly ever appears online in the cache logs but it happens quite frequently. (Never to my caches of course, too well hidden... ahem, just kidding, gonna regrett that too I guess). Anyway, I also know BC from several events and the Magellan hunt locally. I hate to hear of the sudden departure but he has a right to do what he feels is best for him. As for me I would rather a person not send in a logged find than plunder the cache. Each is possible with every finder. As for Mr. Knight, we here in SE Louisiana accept our brothers decision and hope he comes back soon. He has expressed no interest in searching in your part of the country so let us worry about our caches and you worry about who finds your, then we will all be happy

The Northshore area of Lake Ponchatrain caught it the worst. Naturally thats where I am. One of my rent houses took a beating but mostly everyone faired pretty well over here. We are use to the big blows and this one was mostly a big puff. The water was the worst problem because the ground has been saturated from weeks of daily heavy rains so all the rivers crested pretty fast. All in all we came out OK.

I do not know how many finds you have but I remember my first find. It was in thick woods in a park and I found it on my second attempt. When I finally found it I just happened to look down at my feet and I was standing right by it, totally uncovered. That was 300 finds ago and I hope would not happen now. The ones I find not that I am standing on are at least covered. Experience will lead you to hiding places that you can see from far away. Certain things stick out after you have seen enough of them. And there are still some that will kick your butt and humble you back into reality when you start getting the big head. I have easily found caches that took many others weeks to finally locate and I have been the one to search for weeks for a cache that everyone else has found. Try another one or two and then go back to that one, and keep going back till you find it. NEVER SHALL A NO FIND GO UNAVENGED!!!! as long as its still there.

I agree that some are cheap, some are clueless, some are not so financially fortunate, and also some do not care. Sounds like a cross section of the general population. Geocaching also has its crooks just like the rest of the population. I do not mean the inconsiderate person that happens on the cache and takes it even with the do not take message on it. I mean the team that went through my area a while back finding caches, stealing them and posting a note on the cache page. This would also include the people you pay with your tax dollars at the National Parks service that are so much hollier than thou that they feel you are a criminal if you "litter" their precious parks. Heaven forbid a taxpayer actually use the public property to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and have a little fun. Yeah, that has to be illegal. So off my soap box and back to the subject. I personally seldom take anything out of a cache except a Travel Bug which most do not consider trade items anyway. Generally I just T.N.L.N.S.L. (Since this is a beginners forum question that means TOOK NOTHING LEFT NOTHING SIGNED LOG)

If you really want to help a bug along then when you pickit up go home and print out ont of the sheets on this link for that bug and put the sheet and bug in a ziplock before sending it on its way.

I liked this idea so much we went out to Wally World and bought a hot laminating maching. They are only $17 and you would be surprized to find out how many uses you can find for one once you have it. I hope the kids don't laminate the dog.

There are a lot of caches that my wife and I have hit recently to get the bugs and all but 1 of 12 were gone. I know a lot od rookies are grabbing some not even knowing what they are and may just be trying caching for the first and last time. This only accounts for a small portion but any saved bugs are worth the effort. Here is a link to a page that you can fill in the blanks and it will generate a sheet describing the bug and what to do to log it , then what to do with it after that. I t says if you dont intend to move it soon not to take it also.

I laminated it and put one in a ziplock with each bug so there will not be any confusion. This MAY prevent a loss at some point. It marks the bug as something special and tells what to do with it without the finder having to surf the site to find the info. Nothing, however, will prevent the jerks that don't care from screwing up your bugs travels, or even ending its life.
I hope this helps some of you. We haven't lost a bug YET with one of these.

Hi Cactus My wife went on many of my hunts over the years and then one day she decided to start logging under her own name. We went back thru my finds and located the days she had come with me then she logged those caches that she helped find on the dates we had found them. Most posted right by my name since we were the only finders on that day. So if you were there I see absolutely no problem with posting a find for them.
