  1. It's not that easy for everyone to 'steer' a reporter in the right direction. I was interviewed for a newspaper article Monday and the reporter had gone on a cache hunt with someone else last week. He seemed a little disappointed becuase I didn't have much to say on the prizes I had found in caches. My main motivation is the hunt itself. He was taken to a cache that was buried (one of the earliest ones in our area when nobody thought anything of it) and I made sure he knew not to write about it being "buried treasure". That's the one thing I hate to see in articles. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page
  2. I don't think somebody with 10 or 20 times as many forum posts as finds should be telling anyone anything! I do agree that the topic is worth is worth discussing but your methods are low ball. If you are such a intent on taking the low road and posting names you should have the common courtesy to invite those you are judging to join the conversation. I have been a member for almost 2 years and in that time these forums have turned to trash. Between the trolls and the cache police it's hardly worth visiting. Fullon - I recommend you only take advice from those that have never made an error. Oops! I guess that makes mine worthless too Nuff said, Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page

  4. I have an inverter in the car and keep 4-AA batteries on the charger all the time. I use them in my GPSr, digital camera, and flashlight. We have 12 total NiMH and haven't spent a dime on batteries in over a year. They have about 10% less power than alkalines but work great for me. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page
  5. Check the zip for Franklin, TN and it's pretty obvious who it is, although he did miss a couple logs. That was extremely petty and mean spirited. I don't know anyway to remedy the situation but I would be very ticked off. I don't recommend any form of retaliation, that won't solve anything and could just lead to an escalation of the problem. Ignore him, and don't hunt anymore of his caches. If someone offers a proxy cache to log your numbers take the offer and move on. Rusty...IMHO Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page

You have to explain this one My lamest: Nothing - nice container, pen & logbook, no other contents. Coolest: A hand-crafted birdhouse about 2 feet high and 30 inches wide. Actually there were 3 keys and one of them unlocked a case in the cache hiders driveway with the house inside. I took the 2nd key and it didn't fit, the next person got it. Rusty... 10. I think sometimes the more experience you have the more likely you think "well, I can't find it and I'm an expert. It must be gone!" I know I've done it a couple times myself and it usually just turns out that I didn't look well enough. I think I've finally learned my lesson though and now I just blame it on bad coordinates instead of assuming it's missing Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page

  12. I put parking coordinates on one of my caches because I didn't want people parking on a private road. I also described the spot so you would know the right place without using the coords. Other than trespassing or danger issues I will find my own spot to park, thank you. The challange of finding a spot to park is the only thing that makes some of those park-and-grab caches worth messing with. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page
  13. Libby & I have had several terrible days, but looking back they are some of our favorite hunts. I remember the first cache we tried at night, it was after midnight and we got turned around in the woods (no we didn't mark our car). We saw a road about 20 yards away thru some thick bramble and bushwacked over to it. Once there we realized we were on a private gated driveway, and then the dogs started barking, and getting closer! We took off running, and somehow managed to roll under the gate as the dogs closed in and lights were coming on in the house. To top it off we didn't find the cache. The next day it was easy. We still laugh when we talk about it. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page

  15. The first cache I found is still the closest one to my house at 1.7 miles #2 is mine at 5.3 miles away. My farthest one is almost 200 miles away but only about 20 miles from my daughter's house. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page
  16. I've never missed 2 in a row but it did take me 3 trips to find a 1/1 cache. Not buried, in full view, 18 inches above ground level, and we sat within a couple inches of it many times. I was almost embarassed when we finally found it and realized how easy it was. There were tons of 'obvious' hiding spots within a few yards and we just never looked in plain sight, doh! Rusty... 18. At first glance I would say no, but with the problems you have had in the state park system I say yes. If it's possible to place an "official" cache and gain some much needed good will by bending (not breaking) the commercialism rules then I go for it. I only say this if the cache can be placed with permission from all involved. Placing a cache nearby would be using a cache to highlight the fair, placing it inside is using the fair to highlight caching, a distinct difference. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page
  19. It really depends on the situation. If it's in a system of parks I visit frequently like our state park system I always get an annual sticker anyways. In other parks that I won't return to I only pay if there isn't alternative parking close by. I agree that if the main parking spot requires a of fee it should be noted in the description. It's also nice to note if there is free parking if it's in an area that usually has a fee. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page

Given what I know of the finders, if they say it's there, it's there... If one is real then they probably all are. With the strangeness of the whole situation I guess the fact they were real didn't seem an option. All of you that said to just give them the benefit of doubt and wait it out were correct. I suppose then that whether they did or did not sign the physical logs for their finds is between them and the cache owner. No action was indeed the best action. 22. I did look at some of their previous entries. They thought most were tounge-in-cheek but legitimate. They have also placed caches that continue to be found, again no problem. Their activity on July 27 is completely different and goes over the edge. I've said it already but I accept that phony logs are between them and the cache owner but false caches takes it too far. There also comes a point when giving someone the benifit of doubt is not acceptable. I think they crossed that point when they posted a fake 4/4 cache on a ecologically fragile and very steep hillside on Mackinaw Island. Rusty... Rusty & Libby's Geocache Page

Marine Wheels Aloha Two of these are 1/1 caches, on the surface it may look as though they are just tough to find. Taken in context with all the false logs (at least 4 have verified they didn't sign physical log) I think it is pretty obvious they are just messing with people. Rusty...
