  1. As someone who is allergic to bees, I can sympathize with this issue. I've been to several geocache locations where bees were active, and I had to walk away without a smiley. The good news is ... bees are less active when the temps are colder. If I can't get within 10 ft of GZ, I'd submit a Write Note log, because I wasn't really able to look for the hide. Then I'd return at another time, when the bees aren't there.

  2. Well, I've been working every possible opportunity on my lil' yellow limo. You see, our poor ol' State of California can't afford school bus drivers like they used to ... so I lost another month of work this year. It really hurt me, in more ways than one. Less moola, less fuel in my tank, less Geocaching, and less Harmon. Ain't it a sad picture?

Actually, I think I'm doing better than ALOT of folks. I still have my house, job, friends, etc! I'd come out of hiding to hear you sing a song to Sue, though. That oughta lift up a girl's spirits, right ol' buddie?

    Yer friend,

    boysnbarrie

  3. Tom and Harmon, I'm sure Yrium would be proud of the ever growing collection that continues in his memory. So pleased to hear that Sue will be taking up the baton.

    -GD

Sue is clearly excited about her new responsibilities. I look

forward to supporting her with a song in my heart ... theme

    from Grease.

    Whoa!

Harmon singing should be worth at least one show of PUD cake support, I reckon. So, you let me know where you'll be singin' ol' buddy, and I'll be sure to supply enough PUD.

    Sincerely,

    boysnbarrie

  4. Team Fatman, I'm sorry I doubted you for an instant. Please forgive me for thinkin' you were possibly pilfering precious PUD.

Harmon, ol' buddy ... I can't make PUD without thinkin' of you! Hope you had a real nice Father's Day!

  5. Say, anybody know what happened to that o' gal named Jodi?

And what about that other ol' gal named Janie?

    And that snake-charmer Denise?

O yeah, that countrified ol' gal, what about Denice?

Hmm, how 'bout that sweet ol' gal Barrie, what about her?

And th' bony one, Barbara, while y're at it?

And a bunch of other ol' gals too?

My gosh I shore do miss them ol' gals. 'Cept for that ugly cross-dresser.

    Harmon

    SD Rowdies

I shore have missed you, too, ol' buddy! Truth is ... I've been out practicing doing it more. Mainly, I've been doing it in the day time (between my school bus routes). So now, by the time I get home, I'm worn out from doing it so much. I think I've already done it 16 times today, but I might have lost count.

Conga Rats to everyone on the impressive numbers! Wowza!

  7. Oh wow! Thank you James!! Now I can read the manaul via my iPhone from where ever I am. Soon I'll be doing it just like all you pros!

I'm really looking forward to doing it better. I'm about to do it on the Strand, so I'll have to read those 100+ manual pages with my 2x3 inch screen later in the day.

  8. Statistics from most recent issue of IEEE Spectrum (3 Feb 2011), which rated Social Networking #2 in its list of Top 11 Technologies of the Decade (Smart Phones were #1)

"Facebook has 540 million users who spend about 700 billion minutes on the site every month; if it were a country, it'd be the third most populous in the world."

By resisting the temptations of Facebook, Harmon has an extra 43 minutes each day he can devote to other pastimes ...

    -GD

Well said Don. Thing to remember is that I gave it a try ...

that lasted three days. Half of the three days was devoted

to deleting the danged account. Facebook is too leaky with

personal data for my taste in spite of their insincere

    denials.

    In the end it was that silly "Like" button that did me in;

you know; as in, "2,345,567 people like this."

O please, not for this curmudgeon.

    Sweet ol' Harmon

    SD Rowdies

Harmon, ol' buddy ... I ain't one bit surprised to learn that 2,345,567 people "like" you  . Shoot, who could blame em', right? Why ... I think I'm gonna go back onto Facebook right now and add myself to that one! Not sure how I missed that, but I'm gonna go find it!

    Yer fan,

    Barrie

    aka: boysnbarrie

    Barry,

Sorry, hate to disappoint you, I misplaced the decimal

point ...should be only 2.345567 Liked me. Truth is

I'm pretty happy with that Facebook Like-count ... just

one off from Pi more or less. If I'm Liked by you then

I can do circular calculations with it. You know, more

    or less.

By th' way, how are you feeling about being the proud

owner of a Garmin 60CSx? Here's a funny story that

pertains to your transaction ... Fred, the fellow that

offered the unit, dropped by my place to pick up your

$200.00. When he arrived I was on the rooftop of my

house with a crew of roofers there to rework a roofing

    problem.

Looking down at Fred I withdrew the folded pack of ten

twenty-dollar bills from my wallet and tossed it off

of the roof toward Fred, in a slight westerly breeze

    mind you.

The twenties deployed one at a time to become a

squadron of spinning Maple-leafish helicopters, fluttering

along above Fred's outstretched arms. Credit to Fred, at

his age he let not a single twenty hit the ground. He had

a lot to say while scrambling for the money but I didn't

    catch all of it.

The crew of roofers watched and laughed heartily. Once

Fred had all of your twenties clutched in his hand he

shouted up to the roofing crew "Be here on Fridays ...

Harmon always throws money from his rooftop but only

    on Fridays."

My hope is that Fred and Jodi never meet one another

and start sharing stories about my behavior. Furthermore

this truthful tale has nothing whatever to do with Shirley

Temple as Dorothy of Oz fame.

It was a pleasure for me to bring seller and buyer together

and hope for your continued pleasure with your new GPS

receiver. Wouldn't it be remarkable if I had been able to

deliver the unit to you in the way Fred received the money?

    Your pal,

    Harmon

    SD Rowdies

Wow, that sure is a coincidence! I just ate a nice piece of lemon meringue :o pi a few minutes ago. It was real yummy ... almost as good as PUD.

Regarding the new 60CSx, I've been practicing every day, sometimes more than once a day. I reckon I'd be doing a LOT better if I'd read the manual that came with it ... but I've been too busy working on my getting better. So far, my golf game hasn't really improved much at all, and the folks at the pee wee golf course don't seem to understand why I'm fiddling with it at all. I tried to explain, even told them about Fred, but they acted like they didn't know him at all. Those folks aren't very helpful, to be honest, but I'm persevering!

I sure wish you wudda taken some pictures documenting this transaction. Frankly, I'm a wee bit surprised you didn't at least get a shot of Fred scrambling for the twenties. Left your camera inside, did ya? I hate when that happens. Next time you see Fred, let him know I'm VERY happy with the GPS ... and go ahead and throw him some more twenties on Friday. Take pictures this time!

Thanks for all your help, Harmon. I really appreciate all you did, and I've got just the thing to thank you properly. It's almost ready ... I'm just waiting for one more special delivery. Whoops, I hope I'm not spilling any beans!

  10. Maybe so ... but what about this?

    WLYH+OYWD+Thirsty+Ladies.jpg

Baked or boiled or in a stew!

What a crock! Those ladies are all smiling 'cause Harmon paid them!

Twenty bucks apiece and a fiver for th' dawg. What's your price Jodi dear?

If y' want I'll 'shop y' into the photo. Time t' change their nickname from

    "Thirsty Ladies" to "Tasteful Ladies."

I just hope they all knew not to go wanderin' off to any bushes for the purpose of  ... uh ... ya know, with Harmon around! He always keeps that camera of his handy in hopes for that memorable photo op!

  11. Awww, thank you for the kind words. I was sort of expecting you to make some funny crack about the picture of me with the new man in my life. Thanks for holding back on that ... I know he's a tad short, and somewhat balding, but we really did hit it off.

Yes, you're quite right ... Yosemite was a really good start. Harmon, I think I'm going to try another trip now! Yeah, I'm going to go to another place where :o I've never been.

    Packin' her bag ...

    Barrie

    aka: boysnbarrie

  12. Hmmm. I might be interested in trying one of those. More info please.

His name is Fred. Call him, at (619) 562-6046.

Make sure to tell him that I told you to ask for

a senior discount even though you're just a kid.

He's a golfer and he only used the 60CSx trying

to improve his golf game. Go figure. His best

golf bag heave was thirty-seven feet into a pond.

If that's not enough he's a photographer and

amatuer image editor ... you know what that sort

of person is like I'm quite sure. O yeah, if you

wind up going over to his place make sure to have

him ride you around in his golf cart. Also make

sure to meet his lovely bride Eva.

Sounds like you can also get a deal on an Oregon

from Jodi but Oregons are only for recluses.

When Jodi "hates" something she has a way of

taking care of the problem; you know, like

    WWOTOIB wise.

Done! I'm getting excited about my potential upgrade ... or perhaps just another tool for my geo-arsenal. You always seem to have a way of blessing my socks off, ol' buddy! I'm glad I have something in the works to show my deep appreciation (and respect) to you properly. Yeah, it's been in the works for quite some time now ... but I have persevered! I'm sure you'll be proud of this lil' city slicker. Well, at least I'd hope so .... hmmm. I should make sure, I reckon.

I wonder if Jodi might be willing to check out my uh ... surprise! She would prolly know if you'd like it, right? Hmmm. What'd I do with her number ...

  13. This just in ...

    Keep it under your hat!

Actually, maybe we are in Kansas Todo.

    What the.....???? :laughing::laughing:

    Whoa!

THIS sure did bring back memories for me. I kept having to ask myself, "Which would I prefer right now? A groping? or to have one of these images made of me (that may or may not be deleted ... but CAN be deleted)." Hmmm. I figured I'd prefer the groping option, but I can see why ol' Harmon would like his pic taken. Thanks for sharing, ol' buddy!

I went through the TSA security 6 times in the past few weeks, and I only got groped once! It wasn't even close to the thrill of finding a geocache either ... quite disappointing, if I do say so. I'd get all ready, cha cha dress n' all, and then ... they'd just flag me on by to go pick up my shoes. It just ain't right.

    <_< boysnbarrie

    Hey Barrie,

Where you been? I've been all worried about your

absence on the Forum; no wait, you went over to

    Facebook, huh?

    Poor ol' Harmon

    Hey Ol' Buddy!

Where have I been, eh? Well ... suffice it to say that the past few months have been full of difficult times for me. I lost a very dear friend in September, and I'm not sure I've recovered from that yet. After my friend died, I kept getting hit with more of life's woes, literally one thing after another. The snowball kept getting bigger as more troubles came my way, and I became overwhelmed by it all. My spirits were pretty low during the Autumn months ... I was a very blue Barrie.

My sister took me away to Yosemite to celebrate my 50th birthday in late December ... it was my very first trip there. We attended the Bracebridge Dinner, all decked out in formal attire, at the Ahwahnee. On my birthday, we hiked to Yosemite Falls while it was snowing, and I sensed my spirits lifted. Something about being out there, surrounded by such incredible beauty, seemed to have helped me out of my sadness.

    My birthday trip to Yosemite

I do access facebook often, this is true. It's just easier for me to do so on my iPhone than it is to get onto the forums and post. I'm sorry I've been absent ... but I honestly wasn't very good company there for quite awhile. So ... ya missed me, eh? Likewise. I wonder if this would be a good time to tell you that I've been working on something special - just for you?

    I've missed you, ol' buddy.

    :) Barrie

  16. For those not on FB......

It's with a sad heart that I have to say that we lost another Geocaching Pet and family member....the Flagman family had to say goodbye to Max yesterday. Our hearts go out to Tom and his family......

Another sad lose of a dear pet.

Doubly hard to come at this time

    of year I'm sure.

    Heartfelt condolences,

    Harmon & Sandy,

    SD Rowdies

Thanks, you guys... For all of my friends who aren't on FB, here's a link to a photo tribute of Max's wonderful life. We will miss him terribly... :( :( :(Max (the dog)

:( So sorry to hear about Max. That's a very nice photo tribute.

Here's a pic of Max and Ginger! frolicking at a waterhole in Horsethief Canyon.

It's been awhile since I've found the time to check out the forum threads ... and this news really saddened me. My deepest condolences to you and your family, Tom, over the loss of Max. I hope you find comfort in the wonderful memories shared.

    Selling and wearing.

Dang! I've been so wrapped up in my own brand of misery (which not only involved knives, but also saws) that I forgot all about the SD Geocachers Revival T-shirt. I have this vague thought that I might have committed to buying one...(it seems so long ago now...)

Any leftovers (hopefully in an XL)?

Wow! I've been out of the loop for awhile myself. I didn't know anything about these shirts ... and I LOVE THEM!!! Who do I talk to about ordering a couple? One for me, and one for halftrack guy? Please oh please oh please? I hope I haven't missed the boat.

  18. Introducing Yrium TNG#16 - The Fat Cats

    02663fc5-b347-4ac5-a30f-1e53958b2c3a.jpg

Card Inspired By Ramona Retired Snipe and designed by Harmon of SD Rowdies.

Congratulations to The Fat Cats and welcome to the

Yrium-card social set. Once Tom releases your card

he'll contact you to pass on the secret handshake.

The hard part of doing an Yrium-card layout is finding

source images that can be used to express a theme

chosen by the related recommender; in this case,

Ramona Retired Snipe. How odd it is this time that I

happened to be the photographer for the main source

    image.

The theme? Well, to feature the Fat-Cats Avatar,

Sue and Mom, Chelsea the GeoDawg, Puzzle Queen,

and a Jeep painted blood-red as a tribute to Sue's

renowned surgical skill. (Tell me about it.) Here's a

link showing the source images used.

    Yrium TNG 16 Source Images

    Hurrah for The Fat Cats,

    Harmon

    SD Rowdies

Note to Self: Change sheer-strip before dinner.

Thanks to Flagman and SD Rowdies for all their hard work this week getting these cards ready. So glad to see the final product after looking at the drafts.

BTW when you all get to read the back of the card there's a note "rookie on the side of the road." That was me on my third Geocache outing. And it's lead into a great friendships and love of caching.

    I hope everyone enjoys!

Mom, Chelsea, and I are so honored to be picked for this Yrium card...Thank you, Doug and Anjie!!! We're both so glad to have met you, too.

We love the layout and while we hadn't noticed the resemblance of the color of Betsy to the color of poor 'Ol Eleven Fangers' blood, we can definitely see it now. :D

And remember our new code phrase, "Doug in the Desert!" (To explain...I tend to argue with Doug about routes and such when we're in the desert Jeepin' and I'm always wrong...always!!! So I asked Doug to say "Doug in the Desert" when I'm being stupid, this being much politer than saying, "Sue, shut up!!!" :anitongue: And just for the record, anyone can use this phrase and I'll be reminded to hush up (anyone, that is, except for 'Ol Harmon!)

Actually I think Ol Harmon just washed the ol jeep for you. :yikes:

What a joy it was to see TheIronMom walking up to my door this evening ... with Yrium cards  ! I simply LOVE the amazing work that goes into these cards. Harmon, as usual, did an incredible job. The misprint brought a smile to my face the moment I saw it! Conga rats to The Fat Cats on being the latest honorees in the TNG series ... very well deserved!

    Congratulations Sue and Pat!
