  1. I drew the logo in AutoCad with the words: OFFICIAL GEOCACHER GEOCACHING.COM I had the guys in the shop laser-cut a stainless steel license plate for me. I am waiting for the copyright attorneys to impound my truck.

  3. I would be interested to hear from any cachers who have had their caches removed from State Parks or have been contacted by the Arkansas Parks Department concerning their caches. The director indicates that there have been caches removed from State Parks. There are less than 100 caches in Arkansas and I am not aware of any that have been removed from State Parks. Do the park employees put them back?
  4. I wrote a letter to the Director of the Arkansas State Parks asking for policy clarification and permission to maintain my existing caches in Arkansas State Parks. Here is his reply: "Dear Mr. Solohiker: (not my real name) At last month's meeting of the State Parks, Recreation and Travel Commission, the Commission directed my office to prepare a policy that would permit geocaching in the Arkansas State Parks system. At this point, geocaching is not permitted in Arkansas State Parks; however, I do realize that the activity has been going on for some time. Some of our staffs have discovered caches, and park visitors have brought other caches to them. There are some environmental and safety issues to work out, but I anticipate we will have a policy within the next 90-120 days. The proposed policy may fall under the administrative rules requirements and therefore require public input, along with review and approval by the Legislative Subcommittee. Until you have an approved policy on the subject, the two caches that you have placed should be removed. Thank you for contacting our office. We will include you on our contact list for review of the policy." In response to the Director's request I have archived the two caches in question and removed them from State property. It looks like we may soon have official permission and new rules for geocaching in Arkansas State Parks. I encourage all cache owners to remove any of their caches in Arkansas State Parks until this is resolved. I will post updates as they develop. My thanks to the Director for his prompt response. 5. Many public parks are a magnet for homosexuals. Several local parks and rest areas have been closed, because they could not stop the homosexuals from using these parks as their personal whore house. It is hard to maintain a cache in these parks, because the cretins seek out little hidy holes to conceal their perversion. Sometimes the same hiding place that contains the cache.
  6. I would guess that a lot of teams are friends of someone who owns a GPS. If you enjoy geocaching, but don't own a GPS then you better get on someone's team. I see teams split, presumably when the other team members purchase their own GPS.
  7. I prefer a diverse discussion. Even though I label geocachers as kind of nerdy, I know that there is a variety of experiences and ideas among us. How much can you say about geocaching that hasn't already been said? Obviously the weapon's thread got out of hand, but there were some interesting and valid points made as well. I agree that the trolls need to go. The admin group here seems to have relaxed their gestapo editing, which I like, but fake posters need to be removed. Now, does anyone have a good recipe for beef jerky?
  8. Is it just me or does anyone else wanna see rubbertoe put on a sock? At least trim that nail.

  10. So what to you folks think about unarmed caching? Hehehe, I is a stinker. I hoped I don't get kicked out of the forums (again).

  12. So you placed a member's only cache and can't figure out why only one person has logged it. Man that is a tough one to figure out.
  13. Political correctness should be a crime. Honesty, consideration, initiative and tolerance are the values that are important. Call a spade a spade, but have the consideration not to do it in front of the Queen of hearts.
  14. I doubt many cachers will be at Burning Man. We are mostly a collection of geeks and nerds with a heavy dose of redneck. Not exactly the free spirit, hippy crowd, halucinating in the nude. It would be kind of interesting to see what kind of caches these acid heads could come up with though.
  15. I think my next thread will be, "Geocaching with a Bible." We got most of the pinheads out of the woodwork with this topic, next time I will broach the subject of religion or maybe politics.

Of the 43 caches listed under your profile as of this writing, I'll bet you left something worth much more in 40 of those, or at least didn't take anything. If only more cachers traded like Solohiker this would be truly cool hobby. The second truth of geocaching is that it attacts people with obsessive compulsive disorders. You really checked every cache I have logged? Spooky ;-0

  18. Wow I guess I lit the fuse on this topic. I think folks from both sides of the gun issue have forgotten a key fact. Guns are fun! Shooting coke cans, skeet, and edible animals can be very entertaining.
  19. quote:Originally posted by 2manytoyz: Unfortunately, pit bulls are a way of life here in the South. There's been many stories in the news about one latching on and having to be killed before it would let go. If it already has a hold of you, you won't get much of a whack at such a close range, especially if he's eating your arm. I am not proud to admit this, but I beat a pitbull to death with a stick once. Actually I stabbed it to death. The Pit Bull grabbed my girlfriend's dog and I hit it with my stick three times before it let go. When it let go I stopped hitting it. It went for the dog again and I stuck my stick in its chest. It went right into the ribcage, but I still had to kick the dog go get it to let go. Both dogs died.
  20. Wow some of you folks have put some thought into this. I usually carry a stick when I hike, but I am experimenting with trekking poles. I am not sure about the trekking poles, but I know I can fend off a dog with a stick and I am pretty sure I can disable a single human with a stick as well. I don't see guns or pepper spray as an effective alternative. I mean the stick is always in my hands. I think I would have to develop a special technique or skill to get a gun/pepper spray in my hand fast enough to be effective. Carrying a pistol on my belt seems absurd.
  21. I like guns and knives. I don't carry them as defensive weapons usually. I never learned the art of the quick draw. I know that there are cachers who do carry defensive weapons and I was wondering how they carried them efficently and/or effectively. In a backpacking situation, humping a 3 pound pistol is just extra weight and normally not very accessible. It just doesn't seem practical. Even a day hike/geocache seems problematic. Any tips?

I just wish people would trade for equal things more. I just placed 5 caches with some nice stuff in it and I hope that they don't get trashed. They are harder to get to so I hope those that find them will trade up, there is stuff like, dvds, star wars figures in store cases, etc. You are screwed. Your nice stuff will turn to junk! It is the first truth of geocaching:-) I don't really mind anymore. I put my caches in areas I like to hike and I visit them often. I know that posters and non-posters visit my caches and the value always degrades. I just stuff them with more junk!

  24. I have hiked with a stick for a long time. The State Parks have some cheap light weight sticks (wood) that were really a bargain. I always thought that trekking poles looked geeky and pathetic. I still do. I decided that looking geeky and pathetic may not be enough of an excuse not to try them. It takes some practice, but trekking poles help. I have not decided if two poles are better than one stick, but I am out there looking like a geek trying to find out.
  25. I like those geocaching stickers in the geocaching gear section. They fit perfectly on an Ammo can. They look cool too. I was too jealous the first time I found one of those on a cache container. I am gonna get me some.... one of these days.
