  1. But these weren't done by geocachers. This is already a monkey see monkey do. Just because a park does it doesn't mean us as geocachers should. As I keep saying anythingyou do to change what is already there to create a place for a cache would be considered vandalism because you are damaging something. If you dig a hole, or screw into a tree or even paint something on public or private property is vandalism. But if you found a piece of wood on the ground (not attached to a tree) and drill a hole that is different. If it was part of the landscaping I would not advise it. I would suggest making something and adding to the spot without doing any damage. I was recently told that drilling a hole in a utility pole if caught you could get fined for damaging their property. And I have seen many drilled out holes, holes in gardens to put a pipe in, screws in trees. I usually report them directly to the reviewer because I had too many COs and cachers give me a hard time about it. And I know I am not the only one reporting them now this way.
  2. I won't mention names but someone told me before leaving the airport grounds they went to find a 4 difficult virtual. A maze of roads to find the information. After they logged the cache someone contacted them saying they had a layover of 6 hours and went and found the same virtual but lost the answer and wanted to know if she could send answer to them. She could not believe that they left the airport, rented a car, drove the maze of roads and then returned the car and went back through customs just for a virtual. She ignored the message.
  3. How do you know they were 'stolen' by other cachers? In positions I placed them would not be found by a muggle. The one with the fake rock was placed under a concrete slab. The fake bolt was under a gate hinge, not in the open. It was there for a long time. I don't leave my evil caches in the open in areas I believe would be knocked off or taken by muggles Sometimes the magnets used in magnetic caches become weaker over time and just fall off whatever they are attached to and end up swept away / washed away / hidden in undergrowth / roll down slopes.... I understand that. But a bolt is heavy. The area has not been swept up in a long time and it is flat ground. And I searched the area. The magnetic is strong.
  4. And worse even is the cachers trying to find them and replacing the caches prolonging their life. I have known CO's encourage this and even try to fuel it in a bid to avoid doing their own maintenance I prefer to replace most of my own. But if someone offers I don't mind. I just don't like cachers replacing them without asking because most of the time my cache is still there.

  7. I just did a big maintenance run on Saturday. I would say a loop of 100 miles maybe more. I had to replace some that were missing. One I knew wouldn't be missing unless the object the cache was on was removed and no one mentioned it or a (heaven forbid)a cacher took it. But after 3 DNFs I had to prove to others it was still there. Sure enough it was. I photographed the logsheet and noticed one cacher did not sign the logsheet. Sorry but had to delete their log. And the last cache is probably still there but a very prickly Oak tree made it impossible to reach it so I had to replace in a different location. Two caches were reported as they had to bushwack some weeds. I'm sorry but in the wild I will not go out and cut down weeds. Nature will take it's course and do it. I did a run a few months ago where a fake rock,a nano, and a fake bolt were stolen. I wish these cachers would just buy their own and not steal from others. And I own 266 and still can maintain them.
  8. I know one well known cacher (Kablooey)who is not a premium member and has no problems other than placing a puzzle cache too close to PMO cache because he can't see it. All this time I thought he was a PM because he finds FTFs faster then me. So you don't need to pay and play.
  9. Yes. I am not sure why the new experiences are better than the old. At least you can see some of the information. I just watch the recent view and the recent logs section whirl unless I click on on the menu to the left. As for the friends logs, I defriended everyone because the plans seemed invasive. I have other means of staying in touch with my friends so I hope they understand. I have that reaction with the public profile. We used to be able to decide what we wanted to show when it is opened. Now Groundspeak has decided they know best and our information is relegated to the side. I was thinking of doing the same thing. Unfriending everyone on my list. I never pay attention to it anyway.
  10. I'm confused. Why do I care what others are logging before what I recently logged. I would rather that put on the side away from what I want to do. It's like if you have your desk just the way you want it and then someone comes in and messes it up to be the way they want you to have it and you are at a loss of what was in important to you. What happened to asking what is important to us and what we want to see on our dashboard? I like seeing what I viewed and glad that hasn't changed, but then I want to see what I logged last because I sometimes I log caches then get interrupted and can't remember where I left off and what I just logged. Seeing what my friends logged in a newsfeed is not that important to me and rather see that pushed to the side so I can look at it if I wanted but not take over my dashboard.
  11. I didn't have the chance to comment about the "Lists" The only issue I have with that is "Where is the Watchlist" I don't see it unless I go back to the old version.
  12. Not reading all the posts because they are all over the place. I haven't logged anything after April 27 till today. The two issues I have is uploading photos kept failing and where can you enter better coords? For the photos I had to wait till I logged them and then went back and edit to add the photos.
  13. I still think it is not as accurate. Hard to zoom in on the map to see where the exact location is. Bouncing especially in big cities, and I recently had a cacher said on one of my caches the coordinates were way off. But no one else has complained, I use my Garmin 62 (95% of the time) and the map shows it is right where I put it.
  14. Are we talking about a string of DNFs on one cache or multiple caches? I usually do DNF first, NM next unless you are sure the cache is in trouble like coordinates off (under .1), obviously missing, damaged, or CO isn't responding to others DNFs NA if cache is on private property, coords are beyond .1, or CO is no longer seems to be active and not responding. Usually when a only a reviewer can intervene.
  15. Most of what you say have been going on for years. Though I've slowed down I am still caching and dealing with the issues mentioned. I am friends with many cachers who started in the early years and they are still here.
  16. I adopted caches not too long after I started because I wanted to try out owning one before placing one. Plus they were old caches. Most I still own. Only one I didn't find and ended up archiving it because I read the history of it too late, finding out a neighbor behind the open space kept stealing it.
  17. Why not use GSAK? There's so much more it can do that can't be done on the website/PQs. 1. Because my primary computer is a mac and I'm not willing to jump through the hoops necessary to run GSAK on a mac just for this functionality. 2. Because GSAK (at least the non-nagware) version costs $30 in addition to the PM membership fees. I too wish GSAK can be use on Macs. That is why I switched from Mac to Windows. That and Macs are more expensive. I've always love Macs from my first one Performa. But got tired of going back and forth between the two computers.
  18. It depends, Christmas comes every year, so do most holidays. I have a Christmas cache that has been in place since 2009. But I agree short term caches seem unfair for other cachers who may want to log them too.
  19. Try a disposable waterproof camera. When I first started I would see them in Regular and Larges. Those around here are hard to come by now with so many get raided by muggles.
  20. Won't be destroyed. You log a find once and the rest just notes
  21. Is anyone experiencing another 500-Server Error? When I click on my caching name it sends me to log in even though I'm logged.
  22. I heard of a Liars cache that the CO refused to abide by the ALR rule by telling cachers they have to log a liar's log or their log will be deleted.
  23. We had some young cachers stealing in our area. I am guessing they got bored cause it stopped. But I have had some fake bolts, and fake rocks stolen recently. Hidden in a way only a cacher would be looking. So I know it's not a muggle.
