  1. Awww, you guys are all so wonderful! I'm looking forward to more caches, more adventures, and more of ... Harmon

Barrie has become a force amongst our Geocaching ranks.

Have y' heard, she has a night job in the health-care field.

    Whoo-hoo indeed!

You know you've got that lovin' touch ...

When and where y' least expect it by the way. :P

Harmon ... I think some of your humor is lost on all butt.. Barrie and I since most of the crowd had already made it to the top of that steep hill, or were far behind ..... us . Anyway I doubt Barrie will follow asp closely next time.

(note to self: be sure to check spelling before posting to avoid that pesking censor posting ***)

    Entire Szar Fôyô group!

Could have swore I was hanging from that limb in the top of the frame in the original!

Leave it to Harmon to keep all photoshopped pictures serious and professional.

Yeah, I know what you mean Ian. I thought some of us had Halloween costumes on, and one of us was wearing a kilt! Hmmm.

And in I think he made the place look scary, I sortof remember some nice paintings on the walls and furniture in that room

  3. It has not escaped us that this narrow canyon may provide an opportunity for ambush, so to prevent any such attempt we have enlisted the support of the Bloodsport Paintball Team to provide tactical support for this venture, be warned they have been authorized to use "extreme prejudice" in protecting the cache event team. If you plan nefarious events, this group will have you in their sites, you may not see them, but they see you, and rarely miss. Be warned.

  4. [ Hmmm. It appears I'm already ALL OUT of cinnamon rolls. The batch only makes 24 ... the kwvers require 8 rolls a day ... the campout is Fri., Sat., and Sun. ... sooo yeah,

You are assuming the rest of the group will let Kwvers stay all 3 days after they eat the first day's supply of rolls, my bet would be the remaining 16 rolls are eaten during the tar and feather party Friday night

  5. Presidential Puzzle

After a President has been in office for 6 months it is customary for the last President to send a note of congratulations to the new one.

So yesterday when the note came from Bush to Obama, the President was somewhat troubled because it was written in code and all it said was:

    370H-SSV-0773H

This troubled him as he had always heard from his peers how former president Bush was perceived to have been scholarly challenged.

So he took the note to his wife. She was unable to decipher it.

They called in the VP, and he was unable to decode the message. They called in the chief of staff and the head of Secret Service detail and they were unable to determine the meaning of the note.

Next he called in the head of the Senate and Speaker of the House. They both were mystified by the meaning of the coded message.

Now there was complete panic in the oval office.

They called all of their contacts in the media and sent copies of the note to all of them, and not one was able to come up with an answer

A special emergency meeting was called by the staff.

All branches of the military, counter intelligence, CIA, FBI were called in, and the best minds were unable crack the code.

After a sleepless night, a now humbled President picked up the phone and called the former president, and asked him the meaning of the note.

Bush chuckled and replied: 'Dude ............. .You're holding it upside down!'

  6. If you have not heard yet, Chuy's Ginger passed away on Sunday afternoon.

Willow and I will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace.

We are both very sad at this loss, as others have said she was a full member of the SD Caching family, she just hiked on 4 legs instead of two. I am sure Chuy and family will hold her in thier hearts forever. What adventures she had geocaching, it is more than any dog could ask for, what a great life. We will miss her and remember her special log entries about finding caches and having to wait for her human partners. I guess we will celebrate her life and adventures, rather than dwell on the greif, and remember her on the trail.

  8. Getting A Parking Ticket

The other day I went downtown to run a few errands. I went into the local coffee shop for a snack. I was only there for about 5 minutes, and when I came out, there was this cop writing out a parking ticket.

I said to him, 'Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break'?

He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. His insensitivity annoyed me, so I called him a 'Nazi.'

He glared at me and then wrote out another ticket for having worn tires.

So I proceeded to call him a 'doughnut eating Gestapo.' He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he wrote a third ticket when I called him a moron in blue.

This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I talked back to him the more tickets he wrote.

Personally, I didn't really care. I came downtown on the bus, and the car that he was putting the tickets on had one of those bumper stickers that said, ' Obama '08.'

I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. The doctor tells me that it's important for my health.

  9. Hello NW Cachers

    Specifically those in Alaska.

We are planning a trip (land tour & cruise) in June, and will visit Fairbanks, Denali, Anchorage, Alyesca, Skagway, Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan. We will get time to do some caching, but could use some help finding the "not to miss" caches near any of these locations. Any help out there??

Cat & Bobby of San Diego

  10. Sort of on this same topic, who has the fastest FTF??

One of our first caches was found by John (J&J) 23 minutes after it went live. Sort of wished we had ordered a pizza for the FTF prize, but it might not have arrived in time. Maybe we should simply place a DQ sundae in the cache and see if it is found before it melts?

  11. :(B) BIG WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'S B):D

THEY'RE ALWAYS UP FOR ANY KIND OF ADVENTURE (and we've been on a few with them!)

IN FACT, ROBYN IS ALMOST THE INVENTOR OF WOOOOOHOOOOO !!

WE'VE HEARD IT MANY,MANY TIMES COMING OUT THE DRIVER'S DOOR ON HER

    CONGRATS!

    THE SPLASHES :rolleyes::D

Congrats on the milestone, we can only hope #2000 didn't involve a police standoff with marshmellow guns (as #1000 did). We have enjoyed caching with each member of the team and look forward to many more adventures with you all.

    Cat & Bobby

  12. Visited with Lostguy today and his spirits seemed good, and he enjoys having cachers stop by. Doctors told him he will remain at this facility 2-3 weeks, but they re-evaluate his status on Thursdays. Don't be surprised if you run into other cachers while visiting, I ran into one of the Fat Cats, and others seem to be looking for something right outside his window. (Thanks Jodi)

  13. I'm torn between posting this either here or in the hiking/backpacking section...

So last year we traveled to Yosemite for the first time. November 2007 and April 2008 hooked us. We plan to return this upcoming November, but this June we're gonna also hit up Sequoia National Park/King's Canyon. I'm already planning the trip (cuz that's how I am!) and at Sam's Club they had a GREAT travel book that includes everything to do/know about BOTH Yosemite AND Sequoia!

Anyway, so we're looking into visiting the Crystal Caves during our trip. However, the website says:

PLEASE NOTE: The cave is not wheelchair accessible. No tripods, walking sticks, strollers, or baby backpacks are allowed in the cave. Single canes, used for mobility, are allowed. The tour includes a strenuous 1 ½ mile hike with a 320’ vertical gain.

At the time of our trip our kids will be 11 months and 4.10 years. We have a baby backpack... but what if we put the little girl in one of those snugli carriers. For those who have been, do you know if that would be allowed? And since the tour is described as "strenuous" do you think our 5-ish year old would be able to do it? He has a passion for geocaching, hiking, exploring... but he's also a kid sometimes. He made it 1/2 way up the hike to Vernal Falls from our campground in Yosemite last Nov '07 (he had turned 3 that summer), then got put in the baby backpack, and didn't fall asleep until we were part of the way DOWN on the return trip.

I know you don't know anything about my kids, but based on what I wrote here, your help and responses are much appreciated!

We went last year and the hike down to the cave entrace was steep, but easily hiked and you could take as much time as needed so don't see any problem there. Once inside the caves there are numerous times where the path is narrow and overhangs cause some unusual walking conditions. There was a 5 year old in our group and he did fine, and one in our group had a wlaking stick and no one said anything to them. Overall this was worth seeing. There are several other things not to miss in this are also.

  14. H-E-L-L-L-P!

I'm being held captive by an ex-nun.

:( Harmon, I'm always looking for good names for caches and I do believe that's gonne be my next one "H-e-l-l-l-p I'm being Held captive By an Ex-Nun". Do you have any requests for spots where I should place it? ( Don't worry I'll add a rest stop on the way up)

    Regards, your friend Jodi

While your at it, place two Jodi and call the second one "I'll have nun of that!" :D

Maybe you could even do a third one in honor of Harmon called "Second to Nun." ;)

:P Pat...I like it..a power trail like nun other. I'm on it....

    O sure, now it's pile-on time. Why I oughta ....

Just thought of another one, "Nun too soon!":P

 Awesome! This is shaping up to be a great project. Now I just have to find a spot.......don't worry Harmon I'll succeed. PS. Both of my bathroom remodels are finished ;)

;) Ok Harmon...with a little help from Trailgators we now have:

    "Nun" for the weak

    2nd to "Nun"

Only a "Nun" Can Help me now

Harmon wants to rest?: We'll have "Nun" of that

    Ocean Views like "Nun" other

    Chariots of the "Nuns"

    H-e-l-l-p I've been captured by an "Ex-nun"

    View Like "Nun" Other

    There's "Nun" Left

    "Nun" too Soon"

    You're welcome! :lol::(:(

 Seems to me I read this recently:

    seeking rest and finding "nun"

Looks like Jahoadi is going to have us all in shape in no time! :P

Don't forget about the movies like "Nun but the brave" Of course we don't condon mentioning a "Nuns But" in a cache name(or any other part of a Nun's anatomy) but since this is all going to get blamed on Harmon anyway.....

  15. This is not a completely thought out idea yet, meaning yes I know I want to propose to my girlfriend, and I know (99.9%) that she'll say yes, but I would like to do it in a very memorable and special way.

My girlfriend and I love geocaching together, we do it for hours at a time so it has crossed my mind that I might want to do something with a cache in the South Lake Tahoe or surrounding area as part of the proposal. This is where the idea kind of looses clarity....I'm not exactly sure what to do, or how to do it.

I'm wondering if someone reading this was inspired and was willing to talk about what we might do to make this a very special and memorable moment.

    Thanks,

    Jeff (Tri_Again)

Also contact Sonny and Sandy at Podcacher, he proposed by geocache and was successful

  16. Hi Folk,

My girlfriend and I will be heading to South Lake Tahoe the last week of September and will be doing some caching in the area.

Can anyone recommend any interesting caches to do. We are most interested in caches nead beautiful landscapes (rock formation, or waterfalls as examples) or caches that teach us about the local area.

Also, can anyone fill me in as to anything special consideration to take into account while caching in this area...(for example dangerous animals, or snakes that we need to take precautions against.)

Thank you in advance for you help.

    Jeff (Tri_Again)

Although he is not a local to that area, I would suggest you contact Habu. He organizes a large event in that area with many caches focussed on the history and scenery.

  17. Things to ponder

    1. Ratio of an igloo's circumference to its diameter = Eskimo Pi

    2. 2,000 pounds of Chinese soup = Won ton

    3. 1 millionth of a mouthwash = 1 microscope

    4. Time between slipping on a peel and smacking the pavement =

    1 bananosecond

    5. Weight an evangelist carries with God = 1 billigram

  18. Thanks to everyone that went on the Otay drive. I had a great time with everyone and the views were not bad either..

    Paul

    :wub::wub:

Loads of fun, caches, and PUD cake on top of a mountain, what more could a geocacher ask for? Thanks for initiating this Paul and for leading our rag-tag group.

    :):D

Cat and I will tag along, we are taking a day-off from the parent-sitting that has kept us inactive for the last several months. Have done this route before, but it is always fun, and a good outing for our geo-samarai. We will skip the breakfast and meet the gang at 7:30

  20. Hello all:

County of San Diego Park and Recreation Department will be holding a celebration at Goodan Ranch on Saturday May 10. As a County Park Ranger (Not assigned there, but at another location) and as a geocacher, I offered to create a cache for that day at Goodan Ranch area. As you're all aware, the various Park Agencies frown on physicial caches and Geocaching.com frown on vitual caches, directing them to waypointing.com. Talking to the Ranger in charge, she is heading more to a virtual cache.

I'd like some tips and suggestions on this event. I would prefer a physicial cache, but we're all aware of the bad name that a very small number of geocachers has given us by creating their own trails to the caches. The Ranger in charge has picked several sites that geocachers would have to get information off of to qualify for the cache.

I look forward to your replies.

    Ranger Roger

You might also try talking to the Assistant Director of County Parks, he is working on this issue also and has talked with atleast 2 local cachers.
