  1. An alert on Facebook to Friends of Georgia State Parks introduces the Georgia State Park Geo-Challenge.

    GETTING STARTED

■Download a Georgia State Park Geo-Challenge PassPort or just the Grid Sheet.

■Get the GPS coordinates at www.Geocaching.com for the Georgia State Parks Geo-Challenge locations

■Start your search and locate one or all caches using a hand-held GPS unit. The cache containers are sealed ammo boxes labeled as a Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites geocache. Caches are located in 42 Georgia state parks.

(Click here for a list of participating parks.)

■When you find a Geo-Challenge cache, log your name and any comments on the logbook inside the cache and stamp your PassPort grid sheet with the unique stamp for that specific park.

■Be sure to follow the Leave No Trace guidelines www.GeorgiaStateParks.org/LeaveNoTrace

    TRAVEL BUGS

Follow the Traveling Gophers on www.Geocaching.com. There are 58 Georgia State Park & Historic Sites travel bugs moving around the country. Be on the lookout for them and help them get to a new destination.

    EARLY BIRD PRIZES

■Be quick. There is a “First-to-Find” special prize for a certificate for a 1-night camping stay in each cache for the person who gets there first.

■Find one of the “endangered” gopher stuffed toys in 10 of the caches and it’s yours to keep and protect.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    GEO-COINS

Complete specific numbers of caches to get a custom geo-coin. Bring your stamped PassPort into the park’s Visitor Center and receive a voucher for your coin.

■With 15 completed caches you are eligible for a bronze level coin

■With 30 completed caches you are eligible for a silver level coin

■With 40 completed caches you are eligible for a gold level coin

To redeem your voucher and receive your coin, send the voucher to:

    BONUS CACHES

Once you complete the caches for each coin level you are eligible for that level bonus cache. The bonus caches are a bit more challenging.

  2. Thank you Miragee for adding the picture. I had not thought of that. There are many of the Truss type bridges that are not railroad bridges. I looked all throughout the available categories under Bridges to add a new waymark and could not find a category that was the "right" place for this type of bridge. Most of them are roadway bridges or are used for hiking, biking, golf carts, etc.

I appreciate your comments and responses! Thank you.

  3. Hi y'all. I've created a category for Truss Bridges. I have two in the area I live in that I would like to waymark but they don't fit into any of the existing categories.

Could i please impose upon everyone to review the category here: http://www.Waymarking.com/groups/peer_revi...de-e44affba1c04 and if you agree that I have met the qualifications for the new category and feel that it has merit, please vote affimatively!

I would also appreciate any feedback as this is my first try at creating a category and all advice is appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Trekinldy59

  4. They are available at Hodges Army & Navy Surplus Store on Hwy. 41 (Cobb Parkway) in Marietta. I got the M-80 size and it cost 12.95. I think you can also get them at the Army/Navy Surplus store that is off Hwy. 41 (near the Hwy. 5 overpass) as well.

  5. Hunting a benchmark in Emerson, GA that is dead ON police station property. Two officers came out to ask what we were doing and didn't even know that there was a benchmark on the property! They were both quite friendly and interested and didn't give us a bit of trouble as we took pictures and left.
