As long as it isn't currently affecting me, I'm not interested in stopping what they did, or furthering what they did. Once someone starts cleansing and area of my caches, then I'll become vocal. =l Man oh man. "Then they came for me....... and by that time no one was left to speak up." - Stephen F. Rohde, Esq ---Real men cache in shorts.
  2. I'd have to question the impact also. When I come to geocaching.com, I'm automatically logged in. This could be the same way so that once you do it that's it. It would not change the way you work on the website at all. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  3. for a second I thought it was Oak Ridge, Oregon. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  4. Go there and in big letters it say Manage Watch Lists ---Real men cache in shorts.
  5. I guess I'm thinking even if just for the hunt it would be more enjoyable to not have to watch so you don't step on a urine jug or have a homeless person eyeing you on your way past their bed. Maybe not. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  6. I know people have stated they want access to anyone who may stummble across the site in hopes to get more people into goecaching. My thought is needing to be logged on for the coordinates to show. Then goecaching.com could send an email with a varification code that needs to be entered when logging on for the first time. May other sites do this and a least the person would have to give a valid email address. I know it won't stop someone really interested in messing with caches, but maybe deter the passing-by surfer. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  7. I'm writing this after reading another thread where the hider of a cache wrote there was really nothing interesting to see at his cache site and some of the ones we have been to and read about. We have made the decision to no longer search for caches where the log or discription state that you will see or pass by homeless camps. We also don't go to ones where people write about the large amounts of garbage and we stopped looking for one when we saw the area was a dipository for truckers urine bottles. I would encourage people to avoid caches that they feel are in places they wouldn't want to place a cache. People will continue to place caches in dirty or uninteresting places as long as other cachers go look for them. If people start avoiding these, maybe caches won't be placed in any available spot without more thoght. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  8. this would only lead to ones with McDonald's and B.K. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  9. The box is just a container for golfballs right? So we just hide a golfball under a tree somewhere and post to coordinates to that. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  10. I had switched to plastic after I heard the terrible story about somebody losing a toe to an ammo box. Then somebody found my plastic box, filled it with left-over hamburger helper and put it in their fridge. Now I just carve my address on a tree at the cache coordinates and have the actual cache contents layed out in my livingroom. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  11. I hate going there, but Walmart can be a good source. A new rain poncho isn't a bad find and cost around $1. During the back-to-school sales they had solar calulators for $1, and not those little check book ones either. They also have little knives in the camping area for under $1. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  12. I like the idea of some cache rating system, but if it would slow down the website, forget it. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  13. Yes, the system allows it. No, it's not cool to do so. If you want your daughter's name on the cache log, you can leave a note on the log instead of "found it" (so then it won't add to found count) or you could go back and edit the log you left and note when she found it. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  14. The other helpful time is when the cache is hid under tree cover. After finding out about bouncing GPS signals by being lead in a circle around more than one cache I now get a good fix when I can and then switch to a compass when I enter the tree line. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  15. We went to one in Yakima, Washington in our Explorer. A little rougher road than I was used to. Was just waiting for a tire to pop while LKay had a blast driving. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  16. Find #1 the physical cache Find #2 the waterfall you have to stand at to find the cache. Basically one cache, two finds. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  17. because the fair thing is whoever came first. I want to say the physical cache because it drives me crazy that people don't go to the trouble of putting a physical in place where there can be one. It also seems a little silly to have both. You are just saying that you find the cache and then get to log it again because you are standing at a virtual cache. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  18. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot: quote:Originally posted by Nurse Dave & LKay:It is excluding anyone that didn't pay Disney money. Yes, and people who cache with their dogs are excluded from some parks (and therefore any caches in those parks) ... people without specific equipment or skills are excluded from doing other caches ... people with certain physical handicaps are excluded from doing many more caches. Since when has "total inclusion" been a requirement for cache approval? The exclusion in this case is commercial where it isn't in the other examples. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Markwell:The only other comment that I failed to make in my previous post is that I do NOT think that this is a commercial cache. Just paying an entrance fee does not mean that you're trying to trick someone into buy something. IMO, the commercialization of caches is when there is blatant advertising in the placement or contents. Inside Joe's Coffee Shop placed by Joe is an example of commercial placement. I don't pay a fee to get in to his Coffee Shop, but the idea is just to get me into his shop to coerce me to buy his coffee. In this case, it wasn't Disney that set up the cache. If it had been, then I would whole-heartedly agree that it was a commercial cache. Once it's in place what's the difference who placed it there? The end result is the same. Just looking at it from a geocaching angle, anyone wanting to go to this cache has to give Disney money. I agree that people won't pay admission just to get the cache and leave, but that's kind of the point isn't it. If I'm not planning on going to the park, but I'm in the area I can't get the cache because I'd have to do just that. It is excluding anyone that didn't pay Disney money. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  20. With the way I've seen these "parks" get cleaned and every detail is taken into account. What are the chances a cache would go unfound by "park" employees? ---Real men cache in shorts.
  21. First of all, if you have to give money to a company to find the cache that is obviously a commercial cache. Park fees are different in the aspect they aren't making a profit and they aren't a commercial company. Second, admin. has already stated that in cases where a cache isn't approved, past approval of a similar cache isn't a reason for it to be approved. If it were, there would be no way to change guidelines or avoid previous mistakes. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  22. he's getting down with his geocachin' thang. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  23. Any chance you were looking for caches all hidden by the same person and they were out checking on them? ---Real men cache in shorts.
  24. We use a Navman add-on for a PDA. ---Real men cache in shorts.
  25. that's the prettiest picture of you yet! ---Real men cache in shorts.
