  1. Actually I don't know what happened. He got a hold of me just fine. Even verified my address when the coins were coming in. They somehow didn't get sent with the others I was told.

  2. All with the Jersey Devil on the back side. Each coin will contain the coordinates to a specially placed cache. (oops, I've said too much already).

I would suggest you do like moun10bike and put a code on each coin you need to go to the cache instead of the coords. What happens if it keeps getting plundered and you need to move it, or you need to move it for any reason.

Unless you are trying to trick us and something else in mind when you say "cache". Then nevermind.

  3. My first caching was with a Palm and a GPS sleave. After switching long ago to stand alone GPSs I wouldn't suggest the all in one solution to anyone. They aren't waterproof so you'll have to hasle with a plastic bag over the thing to actually be able to use it in the rain and then it fogs a bit inside. And they are just too fragile when you're climbing over rocks or sliding down that muddy hill. On top of that the battery life if just sad.

  4. Having had numerous "waterproof" watches and other electronics, and having dropped at least one of each into a toilet at some point (don't ask,) and having them stop working completely after that, I can see why someone might want one of those.

Man, I really want to ask. :(

  5. At the heart of this activity is the use of GPS in creative ways. Removing these types of geocaches from the universe of the possible creates an unnecessary limitation on the possibilites that this activity could have.

Ummm, the heart of this activity is finding a geoCACHE, not just waypointing stuff you think other might want to look at. There are other websites in place where you can do that.

For this particular one if you have to be from the area to understand why it's so important then I would say no. There should be an obvious "WOW" factor and reading info signs and trying to comprehend the economic impact of something sounds like a good stop on a trip to stretch your legs, but not a "WOW".

  6. Wow, if this is your biggest worry you have a pretty good life. I find it very funny that you're getting all worked up about someone modifying a TB owned by a huge company that released 5000 of the dadgum things. If it was 100 maybe you would have a point. Once you can provide an email from the person at Jeep that approved the drop-in-a-company-bucket money for the jeeps stating that they care at all about them any more I'll listen without laughing.

TSD is not the only person to do this. There is a cacher in Cali famous for his purple jeep and changed several of them to a purple jeep. It didn't tick people off, it was funny and those were sought after in a way too.

It's a .50 toy that was part of a promotion. Everyone take a deep breath and go caching.

  7. Well that's just a change in the argument. First is was these are TBs and shouldn't be kept by anyone. Then it's pointed out they are owned by a company that did it for a promotion, it's over, you won't find anyone at Jeep who cares. So now it's the fact that all cachers should be able to log one.

I don't think it's fair to get ticked at the people that want to keep one just because everyone hasn't got to log one yet. Sure it would be cool, but there are cachers all over the world. Ain't going to happen and it's not realistic for people to expect something like that to travel forever given it's not personally owned.

  8. I agree. Eventually I'd like to get the chance to see a Yellow Jeep TB up here, but if people start collecting them, they'll never make it up here.

I can understand that, but that has nothing to do with Jeep's promotion being over.

  9. So there is a thread in a local area that brought of the issue of people having more caches than they can maintain. And the question is why are people allowed to hide more than they can maintain.

I don't really like the idea of a fixed number that people can hide to avoid the issue of non-maintenance. But I did come up with an idea. What if there is a "Needs Maintenance" button that a finder can click along with a "found" or "note". Then the cache is flagged with needing maintenance. Once the hider or another cacher has fixed or checked on the problem, the hider would unflag the cache. If a hider has over a fixed number of caches being flagged for maintenance, then they could be cut off for new approvals or at least it would be a warning to approvers. And maybe it would even be a good reminder to the hider themselves.

I think the biggest issue isn't the actual number of caches people have, but when they are spending their time hiding others when they have ones that need their attention. In addition it could be a flag to others in the area that enjoy helping out others with their caches. "Hey that cache I pass by every day to work needs a new log book. I'll stop by there on my way."
