So now we have WellMark'ed caches. That's caches that slip under the radar and get approved, and then archived after someone Well, marks them here in the forums. There have been 1 or 2 others of late, I am just being to lazy to Markwell them. Hey, Its the day after my birthday, I can invent a new word if I want to...
  2. quote:Originally posted by CYBret:Like what? Give me an example. The only trademark item I would never remove from a cache is Centaur's Desiccant Packs. Then again, I might take one to keep the "funky cache smell" out of my own caches! Bret Which is why I put 5 packs in the caches I trade them into. I put 1 actually in the cache itself, usually in the baggie with the Logbook. And then I put 4 in their own baggie as trade items. I expect a cacher to take one or 2 packs out of the baggie, leaving a few for another cacher. Then I would hope they are putting them in their own cache to keep it fresh. As a side note, after 6 months (give or take, depending on humidity and placement), they should be baked in an oven and they will be all ready to absorb more moisture. quote:LOL . . wow . . I had no idea you were posting to the thread until the page reloaded....HOWDY, CENTAUR! Bret Heyya Bret! You been reading my mind again? Like minds run in the same gutter, and all that.

  5. Say huga.... where might we find the information about the .mps file format? Great program BTW. Thanks!
  6. Dont have a Magellan, have Garmin here. But a line that draws from your Starting point to the destination is a COURSE line. The line that moves with you is a Bearing line. Some of the Garmins have an option to choose which one to display. See if your Magellan has that option somewhere.
  7. .... anyone who take any of this seriously... Deserves to!
  8. quote:Originally posted by nincehelser:... However, it does go against the common usage of the term .... COMMON ?????? Geocachers ???? Never. We are an uncommon breed. Prolly why we don't use common meanings or terms. IE: You're EPE is showing... McToys suck... Markwell this thread... (Look THAT up in your Funk and Wagnal ) (BTW.. You're more then likely right. However just with any new sport or endevor, it will bend words and meanings to fit the need.)
  9. Hey UMC... hows the second V doing? We now return you to our regularly scheduled forum messages...
  10. Now all we got to do is set up a tent, get Jeremy up in the pulpit, and start passing the hat... We will all be able to get some cool geoswag then, while sending the converts out singing the praise of the Cache! I can see it now... "You are afflicted my Friend? You can be saved! Yes! With faith in the Cache you can be SAVED! Let me lay this Yellow Etrex on you! Hallelujah! You will be saved! You will be saved from hours of drudgery and toil at work! You will be saved from idling your life away in front of the demon television! Praise the Cache! I can see the spirit coming to you now! The distance to the promised land is decreasing to within the EPE! Hallelujah my friends! Can you feel it? Can you feel the power of the Cache? Now is the time of the blessing! The Distance to salvation is Zero! You are walking upon hollowed ground! Can you feel it my son? Yes! Yes! That’s it. All praise the Cache! In the Cache’s eyes we are all one! Hallelujah! You have come here and you have been SAVED! Praise the Cache! Look upon the Cache and you can see the many wonders! Feel the spirit of the Cache and you will be renewed in the light of the LCD! The Cache loves you my son! Throw down the walking stick, put out of your life the evil McToys, put behind you the dirty and misbegotten old golf balls, harken to the word of the almighty and ever lasting CACHE! You are healed, you have chosen to walk the path of the Cache! Glory Be! Hallelujah! Amen!” (Quick, someone pass the hat....)
  11. Oddly, I had no problem knowing that "Trade Up" ment leave as well or better then you took, when I first started caching. Seemed only natural to me. ----- Perspective is a two edge sword. If you dont like my view, Ill use Perspective.
  12. quote:Originally posted by Ttepee:Centaur... like the desicants...first time I've seen a picture... nice. I guess my sig item is totem stones.... Thank you! But the packs dont even come close to your wonderful signature items. Absolutly beautyful and meaningful! I see someday I will have to hunt one up! I bet they are the first thing to trade out of a cache. -Centaur

  14. Welcome to the insanity! Great to have you aboard.
  15. Are you ever going to hook a webcam back up ? Just for grins and giggles? And I found "You found my hidden info." on theirish.com page. Can I log it ?
  16. Signature Desiccant Packs - See this Thread here.
  17. You left out: Old Dirty GOlfballs... Now a box of nice new ones would be ok.
  18. quote:Originally posted by avaloncourt: I took a look at my Mapsource CitySelect and all of the roads you named above were on that disc. The catch... it can only be used on a GPS V (for autorouting functions), NavTalk® GSM phone and the GPSMAP 196. Otherwise you can't use it on any of the other receivers. Odd, I Just loaded Mapsource City Select 4.01 (came with my V) into my wifes new GPSMAP 76S and it works fine (Without the auto routing of course). It even shows the next street ahead and will do address lookups.
  19. And lets not forget Course Pointers... Which is the bearing FROM WHERE YOU STARTED, not where you are now... Are we confused enough now?
  20. Just got my wife a GPSmap 76S for christmas, and noticed an odd shutdown problem as well. There were actually 2 different things: 1) make sure you have the latest firmware. One of the fixes they noted was some odd battery indicator/shutdown problem. 2) check the battery contact springs, especially the FLAT sides. I had a set of batteries in the 76S and a very light tap to the case would cause it to shut off. I took the batteries out and with a small screwdriver put a little more of a hump in the flat side contacts. They are protected behind a plastic guide to prevent the flat - end of the battery from making contact in case you put them in backwards. Problem was the + tip of the battery was just not high enough to fit through the protector to make contact. Since slightly adjusting the contact, the 76S has worked fine. Alternatly then adjusting the spring, use a different brand of battery that has a slightly longer + tip.
  21. This seems to have been an on again off again problem. Its been discussed on here in the past. I believe its due to the server load and the server timing out while asking for the caches you have found so it can display them as such. Thats why it does not happen when you are not logged in, because it does not ask the server for your found caches. Thats the current work around until the day the Admins get their own map server up and running I believe. Dont log in and the maps seem to work faster. Try at different times of the day when the load may be less. etc. If you search through the messages here you will come across one from Jeremy talking about his work on the new map server.
  22. Welcome to the madhouse! Happy Geocaching!
  23. WHat you are looking for has just come on line in the last few weeks or so.. its the GPX compatable downloads. You want to switch from the .loc file type the .gpx file type for your custom downloads. Then check here for programs (including eazyGPS) that can grock the new .GPX formats. Since it is so new, various programs still have bugs and minor glitchines with the new format. But it is in fact exactly what you are looking for.
  24. Yes, use rechargables. NiMh is the current state of the art. The higher the mAh the better. 1600 to 1850 mAh are common. Get a good charger, something that will charge without overheating the batteries, and then trickle charge them to full. And always carry a spare set of batteries with you, even if they are plain alkaline. It is a real bummer to get to 200 feet of a cache and have your batteries croak. Use the forum SEARCH feature on BATTERIES and youll find other discussions on this topic in the past. Welcome!
  25. quote: ...The probelm is that the operator can not know at any one time the true known error rate of the data being collected. .. Interesting. Do you think that would still hold true for readings taken with WAAS on in a WAAS area? WAAS would know the true error as reported by the WAAS stations, and be transmitting the error correction info to the GPSr. True, the operator would still not know this information, but I assume there may be a way to later check the WAAS system to see what the reported error was.
