  1. Well, I've no idea of where to start with it now.
  2. Trash. In, on, under or anywhere near trash bins of any size. Or just in very trashy areas. Near electrical equipment. Some can be very cleaver, but it seems like they incite stupid behavior (like unscrewing of things that shouldn't be messed with) Most lamp post skirts. One had a funny container and was clearly done with permission so I liked it. Magnetics ON lamp posts are OK.
  3. I like moderately difficult puzzles. The super hard ones are very frustrating. The "Where is it?" series have been a lot of fun for me. You have to ID the location in a photo to find the first stage. There you get coordinates to the other stage(s).
  4. "The Army also examined an object found in a hedge near Drumee Cemetery on the main Newcastle to Castlewellan road. It was found not to be suspicious." So the cache you linked to is in the clear? Not blown up?
  5. Looks good. I like that you included a lot of photographs. I probably would have read more of it if you'd made the font size a bit larger though.
  6. I found one of the discussions http://forums.Groundspeak.com:80/GC/index....howtopic=112236
  7. It's possible it was intended to be a trade item, for some one to take and hide as a new cache someplace.
  8. My guess is it has to do with server resources and bandwidth. If it was unlimited, there would be zillions more PQs being run every day. By limiting it to 5, its enough for most cachers and limits the bandwidth. Just my guess... What I find odd is that one can play with, and get the results from, PQs all day every day, its only the auto-generated ones that get packaged and sent to you that have the limits. By play with I mean you can edit a PQ and see the results immediately, and make as many edits as you choose and each time the results are ready in real time. This tells me that the limitation isn't server resources but more likely not wanting to give out too much of their database all at once. The "real-time" results you see just contain the type, size and name. I think it takes a lot more resources to add the full description and 5 log entries. Still, I'm sure you're right that they don't want people assembling full copies of the DB.
  9. I thought A-GPS allowed the unit to get a rough position very quickly, then the "true" GPS chip in the phone takes over and provides a more accurate position. So, once out of cell tower range, you'd still get a good position fix, it would just take a lot longer.
  10. Someone around here did a Clue style series. They made up their own weapons/suspects/locations and made laminated game pieces. http://coord.info/GC1JPYG Personally, I think a rubber knife would be OK, but will likely get taken as a trade item.
  11. I think your stamp is way cool and I'd enjoy seeing it in a log book. There are two people I know of in my area who use stamps, small round stamps, 5/8 or 3/4 of an inch, and I often notice the stamp. OTOH, I don't pay much attention to the written signatures. In general, this thread is simply unbelievable. The name of the game is GeoCaching, not GeoLogging. I just don't understand so much energy being expended on an incidental aspect of the game.
  12. You can upload coordinates to the device, but it takes a few more steps http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...amp;hl=bushnell
  13. I have two bags now. For city-park type areas, a small fanny bag with camera extra baggies and log sheets golf pencils mechanical pencils a few little toys and keychains for trade "classic" swiss army knife LED flashlight (3AAA) small insect spray pen, gps and phone in my pockets For slightly longer walks in forested areas I have a small messenger bag, to the above list, I add - work gloves better flashlight emergency rain poncho small baggie of first aid supplies tweezers extra GPS more swag "tinker" swiss army knife water bottle clipped to my belt
  14. You can use the Centro with a bluetooth GPS device. The GlobalSat BT-359 GPS puck is the one I have now. On the phone, I run Cachemate with CacheNav plug-in ($8 registartion). It works well. Or you can use Cachemate for Palm without the GPS, just to store cache information to use in conjunction with your handheld GPS.
  15. I also use a BT-359 with my Palm. It seems to be quite accurate out in the open. In dense tree cover it can loose the signal or jump around a lot. Battery life is excellent. I picked up mine pretty cheaply on ebay. I've got a MTK chipset one on order. I'll post back once I've been able to try it out.
  16. Something that really helped when I was getting started was to read all the previous finder's log entries. Sometimes they leave little clues, like "reached up and grabbed the cache" and you know to look somewhere high. Or they might mention "covered it up better than before" and you know there's something covering it, like maybe sticks or leaves or rocks. The hint or the logs may mention what type of container it is. Look at the photos if any are posted on the log page, you may see something that helps. Also, if the previous logs talk about people having bad experiences, with property owners or poor conditions, or whatever I'll know to skip that cache or at least be better prepared for what could happen. And if you're still stuck , you can always ask the cache owner for an extra hint.
  17. Around here people seem to be proud to label their micros as such. I haven't yet seen a micro labeled as a "small". Nanos however, are tagged unknown or other, but most hiders tell the size in the hint or description.
  18. Sure that was ok... you suggest I send to contact@geocaching.com or? I meant that they must one day get by popular topics so if they don't read it today they should eventually read it. How about posting the idea on the new feedback site? Could be fun if the idea does catch on.
  19. Two problems with key holders. The magnets fall out and the logs get wet.
  20. I looked at the old logs on that one. It's had streaks of DNF's before, but an owner check found it in place. I suspect the difficulty level is under-rated. You could ask the owner to check up on it again.
  21. I found a destroyed container and log recently. I picked up the pieces because at that point it really was just trash, shredded by a lawnmower. I notified the owner who replaced it in a short time.
  22. Sounds like a really cute idea. I prefer a series with a bonus cache once you have all the clues vs. one long multicache, but not everyone agrees.
  23. My caches are too new to have that issue yet. But I plan to photograph the logs, then toss the paper.
