  1. The last time I ran the MyFinds PQ (on December 26), I wound up with similar wierdness. I waited about 12 hours between logging my latest finds and running the PQ. The file I got by e-mail included all the caches I had found, but for one of the three caches I had logged earlier the same day, the entry not only didn't include my own log, it didn't include any logs! When I ran the GPX file through FindStats and uploaded the file to itsnotaboutthenumbers.com, some of the stats that came out of those analyses were skewed because those logs were missing. I went to the Web page for the cache with the missing logs and downloaded the information in GPX format. This copy did include all the logs, including mine. I opened the MyFinds GPX in a text editor and spliced my log entry into the XML code. Then when I ran the corrected MyFinds file through FindStats and itsnotaboutthenumbers.com, all the numbers were OK. Why the MyFinds file was incomplete in the first place is a mystery. Since I can only run the thing once a week, I'll have to wait a few days and check the next edition. --Larry
  2. I could be wrong, since I haven't played with this feature myself, but I read somewhere that changing the mode of transportation from car to pedestrian (under "Calculate routes for...") just changes the rules the unit uses to choose the best route. It shouldn't, in theory, affect the way rerouting works, other than to potentially choose a different route. --Larry
  3. This is no longer an issue! I just upgraded my POILoader program to version 2.3.2 and reloaded my POIs. Magenta is now transparent. I can also see the POIs on the map page when zoomed way out. You used to only see them while zoomed-in at 800 feet and closer. I wish I could verify this, but I just tried reloading my POIs using POILoader 2.3.2, and neither the zoomed-out display problem nor the magenta transparency problem are fixed on my 60CSx. If I display the list of nearest POIs, select one from the list, and then select "Map", I can zoom out indefinitely and that particular POI will continue to be displayed. However, any other POIs that ought to be displayed in the same map area still vanish when I zoom out past 800 feet. As for the magenta transparency, it still isn't working for me. I opened the graphic in Photoshop, selected the area I wanted to be transparent, and filled that area with magenta (RGB 255,0,255). I saved the result as a .bmp, then used POILoader 2.3.2 to reload the POIs. When I look at the result on my 60CSx, I see the correct icon, but it has magenta where I hoped it would be transparent. To make sure that magenta color really is magenta (and hadn't somehow shifted when the graphic was saved), I opened the graphic again in Photoshop and checked, and the color is still RGB 255,0,255. Am I doing something wrong, or are these problems not really resolved yet? --Larry
  4. I'm guessing this is exactly what happened (without looking them up, I'm fairly sure I found all three of these evil micros before they went missing; it would have been extremely unlikely for anyone to come across them by accident, and AFAIK there hasn't been any construction at those locations that could have caused the caches to be removed). Most likely some cacher(s) who were looking for these hides somehow drew the attention of curious muggles, the muggles found the caches themselves after the cacher left, and just walked away with them. It's a sad fact of life that these caches can go missing when they're hidden in a relatively public place. I'm hoping these were random events and not some actual cacher who's plundering caches in the area. I've really enjoyed Team Rat Pack's hides, and they don't deserve to be stolen. --Larry
  5. I use CacheMate for Palm, but I think they're the same in this respect. While displaying your list of caches, go to the "Srch" menu and select "Nearest Caches...". This will display a dialog box where you can enter any set of geographic coordinates. Next, you'll see another dialog box that allows you to set up some search filters. After making your selections here and clicking OK, you'll get a list of caches sorted by distance from the location you entered. When you highlight one of the entries, you'll see the distance and direction to that cache. --Larry Hmmm, I don't see any Search feature in Cachemate. I looked under the list menu and Options menu (the only 2 menus) and see no search. Where might it be located? In my Palm version, anyway, when viewing the list of caches I have the following menus at the top of the screen: Record, Srch (this is the search function I was referring to), Calc and Option. When I'm viewing the details of a specific cache, I have the following menus: Record, Calc, Edit and Options. If you see different menus, the PocketPC version of CacheMate must really be different from the Palm version. --Larry

  7. For all those who signed the petition regarding United Nations recognition of the threat of diabetes (and for anyone else who's interested), the resolution has passed. For full details, see this article on the American Diabetes Association Web site. --Larry
  8. Sounds like you need to enter the registration code for CacheMate on your Palm Pilot. Fire up CacheMate and select "Register" from the Option menu. Then enter your registration code and press the "OK" button. This should resolve your issue. EDIT: Sorry, I sort of read your question backwards, and thought you hadn't entered the registration code on your Palm. Which you specifically said you had done. I don't remember having to enter the registration code on my PC, so I'm not sure what the problem might be. --Larry
  9. Are you by chance using rechargeable Lithium batteries? I've heard that fully-charged Lithiums can cause the unit to do just what you described (I don't have Lithium batteries, and I'm going on what I've read). If you're using Lithiums, try discharging them slightly by using them in another device for a few minutes, then put them in the GPSr and see if the symptoms go away. --Larry
  10. I have a 60CSx, but I think they operate the same way in this respect. Mine always shows the icon I used most recently as the suggested icon for a new waypoint. In other words, the one you used last should be the new default. --Larry
  11. The NT version of MapSource City Navigator v8 always downloads routing information to your GPSr. As a result, that box is always grayed out when you're using these maps. --Larry
  12. Out of curiosity, what do you use the 'found by me' info on the Palm for? I've only uploaded info on unfound caches to the Palm - so I'm wondering if I'm missing another use for the software! I also keep information on all my found caches on my Palm (using GSAK and CacheMate). It's great for comparing notes with other cachers at get-togethers! --Larry
  13. You need to set yourself up to get instant notifications. Go to this page for more information. --Larry
  14. Thanks for the clarification. I installed the most recent beta version (4.0.2693 as it turned out) earlier today, but it didn't help my situation. What did help, surprisingly, was turning off the "Time" scale that appears near the upper right corner of the map window (in the "View" menu, for "Show Time", select "Never"). I have no idea why this works, but if "Show Time" is set to either "Automatically" or "Always", the icons for my geocaches don't appear on the map. If "Show Time" is set to "Never", the icons magically reappear. I should mention that the GPX file I've been trying to display in Google Earth is a Pocket Query with all the caches near my home location. I had previously used the "Time" scale with a track file to replay a trip I had taken recently. It's fun to relive a journey using this "Time" feature, but it apparently prevents geocache icons from being displayed correctly when the GPX file contains only waypoints. I'm passing on these details on the chance it might help someone else who's been having the same weird problem as I've been dealing with. --Larry
  15. Are you sure you have the very latest beta build? While in GE, Check for Updates Online - does it tell you that you have the latest? If not, you should be prompted to download the latest version and it should be 4.02.2416. This worked for me - got the ability to import GPX files back! However, I'm not a PLUS subscriber. OK, I'm confused. I currently have Google Earth Plus 4.0.2416, and I'm still having problems displaying GPX files (the same problems gruntmo is reporting). popop, is the lastest and greatest version that you're using 4.0.2416 or 4.02.2416? You've mentioned both version numbers in previous messages. Thanks, --Larry
  16. If you have it set up for Publish notifications, you should also always have them set for Retract notifications. They are yin and yang (and I don't mean Pandas). It may save you a pointless trip to a cache that's not there, or can't be logged. Good point. I'll update my notifications to include retractions. Fortunately, none of the caches I've gone after so far have been retracted while I wasn't looking, but there's always a first time. --Larry
  17. Make sure you're on the Set Up Notifications Web page and not the "Build Pocket Queries" page if you want instant notifications. Pocket Queries won't give you as-it-happens type notices. The entries to be filled in on this "Add/Edit Insta-Notify Subscription" Web page should be fairly self-explanatory. I'll be glad to help answer any questions you have on setting these up. I have three notifications I currently use, one each for Traditional caches, Multi caches and Unknown caches, and they seem to work well. I get an e-mail message whenever caches of these types are published, disabled, or archived (I want to know when caches are disabled or archived so I won't waste my time chasing after them). --Larry
  18. Another wild guess: Do the maps still look normal on your unit? Specifically, on the map screen, at the bottom left below the zoom level, does it say either "mapsource" or "declutter"? Either of these indicates that the City Navigator maps are active on the unit. If it says "basemap" instead, that could be the issue. Once while I was driving, I discovered that I hadn't locked in the microSD card holding my maps, and the card had lost contact with the unit. My unit suddenly showed me just the basemap, because the card wasn't seated properly. If the card isn't seated properly and the unit is using just the basemap, quite a few icons would probably be missing. --Larry
  19. Did you recently send new maps from City Navigator to your 60cx? I'm thinking something might have gone wrong with the data transfer. The missing icons that you mentioned both reference the street data, so that was the first thing I thought of. Also, did you check the "Include route calculation data" box in MapSource before you transferred the maps? I'm not sure, but it could be that if that box isn't checked, you won't be able to search for addresses. --Larry
  20. I did have problems with the Nov. 27 version not recognizing my Topo maps, the Dec. 7 version works fine. I'm running XP with all the service packs, haven't even tried the UnlockWizard. They probably didn't change the version number because they didn't change the software, just how it was bundled for downloading. If that's the case, what was missing in the November 27 package? The copy I installed didn't have any of the problems some others have reported. --Larry
  21. I hope you'll all forgive my newbie question. I've retrieved travel bugs from caches and moved them on to other caches, but this is the first time I've received one this way (I got my Unite for Diabetes travel bug in the mail today). What's the proper way to "register" this TB so the site will show it as being in my possession before I place it in a cache and send it on its way toward (in the case of this TB) Malavalli, India? Thanks, --Larry
  22. Color me confused. As I wrote in my previous message (above), I downloaded and installed MapSource 6.11.6 on November 27, and the installer took up 35.664 MB. I archive all my file downloads, so I still have a copy of that file. When I select "About MapSource..." from the Help menu, the version is indeed listed as 6.11.6. After installation, everything was as expected, including the map unlock wizard and access to Topo maps. I've been using 6.11.6 since that date without any problems. A few minutes ago, I returned to the Garmin Web site and downloaded a fresh copy of MapSource 6.11.6 (at least that's what the Web page claimed). This time, the downloaded program weighed in at 44.800 MB. I have to wonder why Garmin released a version 6.11.6 on November 27, then replaced that executable with a significantly larger one on December 7 without changing the version number or at least telling us why this new copy replaced the older one? My more important question is whether I should risk installing the December 7 package, given the possible bugs some users have reported. What the heck is this bigger(?) better(?) MapSource 6.11.6, anyway? --Larry
  23. But when they reposted it yesterday it included the Map UnlockWizard. Last weeks file was 35mb, this weeks is 45mb. Might be worth reinstalling if you were an early adopter. Also, last weeks version couldn't find my Topo maps. This week it can. As I mentioned in that other thread, I downloaded and installed this update on November 27. The version I installed on that date includes the map unlock wizard (or maybe the map unlock wizard survived from the previous version, 6.11.5), and it recognized my Topo maps. The file I downloaded is 35.664 MB. --Larry
  24. Well, I downloaded and installed it on my PC on November 27. I have no idea why Garmin gives that date for the update. --Larry
