  1. As a previous poster said, dress in layers. Make sure you don't need to dig all the way to skin for a pen or other utensil either! A good hat and good socks are a must. Out here in the frozen tundra of Minnesota, we like gaiters, they go over your pants and the tops of your boots to keep the snow from sneaking in and making your feet wet.
  2. I am using the POI loader, and that works fine. All the info I want is loaded, but my map screen is blank until I 'find' a specific cache and 'goto' it, and then I still just see that cache. What am I doing wrong?

  4. Welcome to the great state of Minnesota! We love winter caching up here! Snow doesn't slow us down in the slightest. Check out the forum section of the MnGCA website and join us for one of our WeekNight events, they happen almost every Wednesday, somewhere in the metro!

  6. Anywhere in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area! We have so many wonderful parks to explore, you could spend a week just trying to hit all of them.
  7. There is a very creative hider in Roseville, Minnesota, by the name of Posen. His hides are very well done, and clustered together as well.

    MOGA 2008

I was lucky enough to go to MOGA last year, it won't work out for my schedule this year, unfortunately. Just one word of warning, WATCH OUT FOR TICKS! Ok, that was 4 words, but we found at least 2 kinds of ticks while we were camping, so go prepared.
  9. I am having issues as well. I can upload the .kml file and select the parameters I want for the PQ, but once I 'submit', I get an error message. This has been going on for several days now, anyone have any ideas?
  10. Thanx for the warm welcome! I plan I taking my kids with me (one at a time though) whenever I go caching. So far my 14 yr. old son seems to enjoy the hiking and I like to see him get outdoors more so this should be a good hobby for us. My 9 yr. old daughter has been dying to go with me but I want to be sure of what I'm doing( nearly got lost in the woods last time lol). Even my 16 yr. old daughter is interested in this. Just learning how to use a gps in the wilderness could be a lifesaver! Ray Ray, I have learned to mark my vehicle as a waitpoint, your GPSr can lead you back to your car after you find the caches! 11. Underwear. Two pair, blue boxers & something small & red. I didn't get close enough to see exactly what the second pair was. They were under a tree in a remote area of a city park.
  12. I guess I didn't realize I need to explain why I was asking a question! All I wanted to know was if anyone else had experienced a cache that was over-rated, or presented as something it was not, nor was I making any complaints in this forum.
  13. rated? as in D/T? not sure what you are referring to - word of mouth, logs, entry on cache description page? I mean 'liar's caches', etc. Such as GCHZKB in Wisconsin and GCMHPA in Idaho.
  14. After the experience I and several other cachers had this weekend, I got to wondering.... Are there any caches out there that you think are way over rated, over hyped, or just down right lies?
  15. This cache is a one stage, at a public boat landing, under some ripped up concrete. The cache owner thinks it is funny to have people spend time and money planning this great adventure, so she can laugh at them when they show up and find what it really is.
  16. I think the sister should claim the caches as an individual. If the team consists of three people, all three people should be caching together for it to count as a team cache. If all three members count their individual finds as team finds, there numbers will increase much faster than the two of you caching together as a team!
  17. Welcome markdalan! I am pretty new to this myself! I will reiterate the points the other cachers gave you: read the logs, start with easy caches, look for anything out of place, look UP! In addition, one thing I have found is moving away from where I think the cache should be, letting my GPSr stand still for a little bit, at least until the numbers seem to settle down, then approach the area from a different direction. Sometimes just looking at things from a different angle helps a lot! Red
  18. Bad_CRC, Start a night caching group like we have up here. It is a great time, and we get to meet lots of other cachers! After all, this is Minnesota. Cold and dark is more than half of our year! Red
  19. The very first coin I placed in the wild was stolen. The coin itself says it is not to be kept, and the coin page says it is supposed to travel. Nothing has ever been logged for my coin since I placed it in it's first cache. The person who took the coin is a thief. No ifs, ands or buts. Just MHO.
  20. Update to the MnGCA Fall Cache Bash... MnGCA will be providing a homemade hot lunch, prepared by one of our local cachers, to those who post a will attend on or before 9/30/2006. We would love for you to join us, camping sites are filling up soon, so get your spot now!

  22. I have seen one glass container that I think might be ok, it is a micro in a telephone pole in a park. The bottle is an old aspirin container, just about the size of my thumb, nice thick glass!
  23. I have created my own sig card, which I date and place in caches I like.
