  1. Depends on how the hunt goes and how good a lock I have.
  2. I too bought one of those to kick around, and the gasket was in poor condition. I was told it is a French medical kit. I used black (though color won't matter) RTV and laid a bead right in the groove in the lid. I then wiped off the excess leaving it flush with the groove lip. Let it dry (open) a few days, and it worked quite well. Lotsha Luck! PP
  3. My truck was hit while in Charlotte, during the day, while I was inside for a class. They got my Geobag with my PDA's, flashlights, my non working (screen inop) Vista, swag and other stuff, my kids DVD player but MISSED my 60CSx!!!! It was on the floor just barely under a paper. They punched the lock, so I really feel blessed. No broken window. They didn't steel the truck. I can't imagin getting the rollin residence back home without it! C.
  4. Does this have to be put in the cradle to sync, or can you sync it with just a cable? Thanks!! C.
  5. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lookin Forward to it!!! C.
  6. Greetings! Me, Mama (Ekabug) and the Piglets will be in central Florida the week of Thanksgiving, arriving Sat. the 17th and leaving probably the 24th. Staying at Wekiwa Springs state park. I think it would be a blast to put together a little group to go after Clan Riffster's "Etch-O-Sketch" GCPX66 cache. I have never (as of this date) done a decent night cache, and I have looked at this one since I started. Now some of y'all know, Riff is my brother. But just as I don't help him with my hides, (my kids stand there and snicker) he probably won't help me either. Log, Nuther Log. More likley, he will find a hiding place on the trail and scare the out of me or us. So if you live close, or will be in the area, lets throw together a little posse and fetch that thar ammo can! After all, how hard can it be? So c'mon. Lets get wet, grab a smiley and some memories! PigPen4X4
  7. Ya know, Nobody will ever confuse me with a lover of all things micro, but I would be disappointed if the OYR caches were eliminated. We RV, and it is a GREAT place to stop on the road, and having these little buggers around just adds something else enjoyable to the stop. I doubt anyone has ever been unable to place a larger cache because one of these was within 528', so if not for them there would probably be none in that area. O.K. Cracker Barrel, if your reading these threads, please re-consider your position. It's all good, and we usually pick up after ourselves. PP4X4
  8. IF you see a bear, you will be (probably) lucky. Treat them as a large unknown dog, giving them lots of room and they will probably walk away. More likley is snakes. Keep your eyes open and watch where you step and reach and you should be fine. Insects are a bigger reality. Ticks, Chiggers and Spiders are a problem in the south. Also Poison Ivy, and to a smaller degree, Poison Oak and others. I don't know how you are planning your routing, but Nemo's Tomb GCHMBH is one of my all time favorites. Just a great place. If you will be in the area check it out. PP4X4
  9. Since the problem is bee lining from the park, would it be possible to get with those cache owners and either ask them to put a warning about not going straight to yours, or asking permission to put a warning in? And warning may be too harsh of a word, but hey, it's early! Other than that, I'm with changing it to a multi or mystery. JM.02W PP4X4
  10. Is everyone expected to blow on the same piece of tube? There are alchohol wipes in the "tool" bag with the hose. Don't want anyone getting cooties. A rocket engine. Hmmmmmmm "Well yer honor, it DID seem like a great idea, at the time." Does anybody know how many volts a pinball solenoid uses? "alright, now go to N34 00.000 W084 00.000 and find a loooooong extension cord. Go to ............" Dang, too much work already. As far as CO2 safety, that is good information. I was kicking around maybe using the working parts from a paintball gun. I'm not looking to fly it through the air. Just to pop up or out. PP4X4
  11. You are qustioning all I have known? Afer awl, I kin mosey up th rock an see th edge!
  12. Oh, and radioactive toxic waste is too hard to get in Georgia. PP4x4
  13. Sorry, I didn't pick up on the tongue in cheek. Guess I took it personally. I picked up a match tube at Sam's place and took it to either Lowes or Depot and found the pipe that it fit nicely. It slides though kinda slowly, and it takes a big breath to raise it all the way up. I believe I'll pass on the smokeless powder as well. Well officer, see I'm playing this game and that's why I need incendiary materials in a public park I do like the pump up idea as well. PP4x4
  14. I thought I made it VERY clear I had discounted the idea. But, that would require reading the whole post, yes? I actually have one stage with a PVC pipe heavily disguised with vine like stuff. it has a brass fitting in the bottom, and you go to another hide to retrieve the hose. You lift the cap, and it says "add CO2". It is not stuck in the ground, (though I have seen many that are) rather it is tie wrapped to a tree/bush. The pipe is I think 1 1/4" light duty, about 4' long. When you blow into the hose, the match tube pops right up. Very nice fit. I have kicked around the water idea, even considered it as another stage for the air one, leaving a big cup in the supply hide. Found a great place, but I'm afraid the water close by is sewage, though treated, still kinda grosses me out. Go ahead and take that out of context too. All the positive replies has me thinking of adding a magnet to the tube, then hiding another magnet in a supply cache. Touch the side of the pipe, raise the mag and there is the tube! PP4X4
  15. OK, so I am working on my next hide, and I want a simple system to pop a matchtube from a camoe'd pipe. This will be a stage of multi. My first conception was to use lighter fluid and it worked great. Then I considered leaving the fluid in another cache as a tool, and decided it was a poor idea and probably against the guidlines. I don't think asking people looking for it to bring lighter fluid is so swift either. So, that got me thinking about other ways, (non flamable) and while I have some ideas, non are working out as really practical. Has anyone seen one or have any ideas? The best I am coming up with right now is a little CO2 cartridge, just trying to work it through. See Ya! PP4X4
  16. I'm walking down a trail. My GPSr pointer (compass to me) is pointing at-a-way, slightly to the right. Oh, a slough I have to walk around. I make a hard left turn, but the pointer is still a pointin at the 'lil ammo box in the woods it can't even see. Seems a whole lot easier than re-sighting a "true" compass before and after. Often times I kinda stop and get my bearings. That pointer stays right on target the whole time. I like my "compass", and will keep using it. Have I been doing it wrong all this time? Might have to delete my find logs. PP4x4
  17. I did one of these. Didn't get my hides out in time. Find was deleted. For some reason, I don't care. PP4X4
  18. I don't know how to answer your question, but I can share my experience. I too have the 60CSx, and I can say when the compass is not calibrated, it's kinda hinkey. I am now in the habit of calibrating it at the start of the day or cache adventure. It only takes 15 seconds or so, and makes a big difference in the results. As far as turning it off, well I tried that once and it didn't work out for me. Call me lazy, but I do like it on. PP4x4
  19. Did anyone else notice that AZRoses grabbed 7 or 8 from TB Pipeline to stock their cache?
  20. I know less than nothing about Maggie's, but I have been real happy with my Garmin Etrex Vista and GPSMAP 60CSx. You should be able to grab a Vista for less than your price. PP
  21. Don't think anyone would copy my "clean cut" avatar. I must say that once I was searching EBAY and found a product I sell with my web site photo attached. It was my van in front of my shop so there was no doubt. Decided to just let it slide.............. PP
  22. I have had good experience with refurbs in general and two garmin refurbs specifically (a Legend for my daughter and a 60cx for myself). I'm trying to remember if it is Garmin or another compay, but on something I bought the Co. will not honer warrenty on anything bought on EBAY. Otherwise, I too have no problems with refurbs from reputable companys. PP
  23. Me too, but this one just kept raking me and eating at me. I just could not let it go. If you are reading these wondering what the IYCSSNDSAAA was, it was what I put in my original online log. I did change it per Sbells suggestion, and I did feel better about it. Thank You everybody for the feedback and support. I'm glad it didn't turn into a pit like some threads do. PP Sorry Flask, but I do like Comic Sans.
