  1. WELCOME! Do you ever get out to Ft. Desoto Park? I found a few good caches there that are not too difficult. Should be a good place to get started. PP
  2. Well, This subscriber only cache only had two visitors that day, who were together, and of course "The Pirate". The Pirate is not a premium member, supposedly, so it is obviously a sock puppet account. I think this narrows it down to three people who most likely are the Pirate. One of the two visitors, or the person who left it there. Perhaps using IP addresses, G.C. can figure out who this person is and ban them, prosecute them if possible! Now, if you are the Pirate reading this, how about just dropping the bug somewhere. I don't feel the requirements are all that big of a deal. These trackables really enhance the game and to hold one hostage just ain't right. I know you would not one of yours in the same position. G.C., can you look into this? PP
  3. On GSAK, I just create a new database when I run my weekly PQ's. I still have all the old ones for refrence. PP
  4. I'm trying to budget a FJ Cruiser, 6sp 4WD, VooDoo Blue or Yellow. Maybe next year, or the next, or................ Right now the '87 Pathfider with 300k + miles has to do. It's bone stock and does great. PP
  5. This one is mine right now, because as realtors say Location Location Location! PP
  6. I too had a compass problem. Found it was some metal in close proximity to the 60CSx. Drove me NUTS for a couple of weeks. Removed the metal, problem solved. I am also very spoiled with the Elec. Compass. I often stop while on the hunt to look around, get my bearings and so forth. Tried with the E-C off a few times and just did not care for it. But, that's just me. I'm kinda like that, ya know!
  7. I bought a Handspring from The Battons in the garage sale section and I am thrilled with it. I was using my Treo 650,and it worked great but wanted something cheap if it got dropped, damaged or dunked. I will say in sunlight I can read the Handspring which is monochrome MUCH better than I could the Treo which is color. I don't know if this is true accross the board, your milage may vary. PP
  8. Enjoy your visit! I wish you could get to Ft. Desoto park just south of St. Pete. It is a great place and has some good hides. Especially Crueage GCHYHB Right now there won't be too many um, state "birds". PP
  9. I went after a cache in Fl. that was hidden "Georgia Style", and even being from Ga. had no idea what it meant, till I found it. Under pine needles. Another was hidden Fl. style, and as said before ity was under palmetto frons. PP
  10. I second that, though I have NO experince on any others. PP
  11. I too have a Treo 650, and it works great! But, I have always feared damaging a $350.00 gadget while on the hunt. It is more fragile than the 60CSx, so I bought a used Handspring Visor off the board so if something happens to it, not as big a loss. PP
  12. The general public has an idea in their heads of what a pipe bomb looks like. I doesn't matter if it's PVC, stainless, iron or even Poly. If it looks like a duck, it must be a duck, right? That's my personal feeling of why our caches should not look like a bomb. Yes, a ammo can has far more potential than a PVC pipe. But, drop one of each in any area with lots of people around and see which one sends them running. How do people perceive our hobby? We should not do things that can put it in a bad light. Will the next land manager say no, those things might bring the bomb squad out here? PP
  13. You enjoy witnessing peoples bladder control, don't you? We were replacing a found cache once and we saw some people moving about in the woods. At first I got very uptight, and left quickly. In the car, it occured to me only cachers would have been there. It was somewhat confirmed when I logged it and there was another log same day. PP Edit sp
  14. I suppose you think the roads are free too? Hey, there are satalite TV signals coming into your yard. You should be able to use those free too? PP
  15. I had read another post about the electronic compass, and some folks said they just don't use it. So, I says to myself, "Self, give it a try without the EC." So I did. And I wern't happy. As stated above, while moving it did a good job. But when I stopped to look around, as I do often, it was pointing in different directions. It actually took a few times to remember I had it off. I turned it back on and off we went to happy cache land. So, I will be using the EC from now on. But, thats just me and I'm kinda like that, 'ya know? PP
  16. Funny, this happend to me last night looking for a cache. (that I did not find) It worked fine for about 5 min., then it would not stay on long enough to even see the batt. level. I popped in my other two, and it was fine. All were freshly charged, and they are the Energizer nickle metal hyd? 2500 ma My feeling is one of them is weak. I have also had it shut down by itself a couple of times on the Garmin DC power cord. Hopefully more information will surface to nail this down. PP
  17. I can't really equate elitism with ALR's. I've always defined elitism as exclusionary, whereas an ALR is a matter of choice. If I hide a cache, and added a requirement that you must rub blue mud in your navel whilst whistling "Greensleeves", you have a choice. Log it and do the ALR, log it without doing the ALR and risk deletion, or don't log it at all. Nothing exclusionary there. There's no elitism going on anywhere but if i was told that i had to pick one that i thought was more elite, i would have to pick ALR caches. There may be a logging requirement that i just might not be able to accomplish (physically, emotionally, against my religion, etc,,,). As far as PMOCs go, anyone can scrounge up $3 for premium membership to get them, that is, if they wanted to! Thanks Kit, I'm sittin here reading all the responses, some I agree with some I do not, wondering Why does this person think it should be "open to all"? It was beaten to death the benifits of the PM. And the feelings of the non PM's. At last, Kit Fox made the big statement. I use MOC to protect them. May or may not be completly effective, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
