  1. Like many others - whether a cache has a clue or not is immaterial - until you actually get out there and can't find it with or without the clue - then it's insanely irritating that either there is no clue or there's no useful clue

  3. The outfit offering the cheapest price might be the slowest to deliver (etc). Still - I've just got back from Frankfurt and the prices they want there for GPSr is laughable. The plain yellow eTrex was €249 in Frankfurt airport which looks to me to be about £160, and the other models were proportionately higher priced. I thought at first that there was some special German-market packaging, but it's the same rig you'd get here for your £100-120

  5. The Heathrow Bug Hotel is in a remarkably quiet location (considering it's proximity to the M4, M25 & Heathrow) - not much going on there though apart from passing Travel Bugs

  7. Yup - my €0.02 says keep it as simple as possible - be conservative in what you publish and liberal in what you read (note lower case 'c' & 'l' on purpose).
  8. Don't forget batteries with at least 50% in them or you might be gloomy too.
  9. Read this.... it just might answer your question

When the same purchaser realises that to get images of greater or equal quality to a reasonably-priced (~ £60) 35mm Silver Halide camera they need to spend more than £400 they turn around and stick with the old technology..... I'm certainly not chucking my £3.5k worth of 35mm equipment out for anyone - hell I can even get instant slide film for it and I can get a lot of it for the price of a decent quality digital SLR body (lenses extra). Digital photography will have it's day, just not yet.
  11. Yup, most Adder bites in the UK are sustained by people flopping down on big flat rocks warmed in the sun without looking (coincidentally the exact location favoured by adders sunning themselves to gain body heat) - rather than by prodding it accidentally with a big poky stick, or by putting their hand in a hole with an adder in it.

  19. I'm pretty certain that there's a New York sign as you go along the Old Coast Road (A191) towards Whitley Bay from the A19 - failing that there's always New York Post Office..... a land mark of some renown locally

  21. Tim & June need to strap a pocket PC, a GPS, a mobile phone and a solar panel to all of their bears before they plant them and have the GPS/Pocket PC combo upload the bears positions in real time via the mobile phone so we can get out there and find them This is of course a joke, unless they really want to do it that is

  23. This morning I set out with BumbleBee to bag a few caches - and without warning all of a sudden the GPS cut out of all satellite receiving. In fact the constellation screen was just showing the azimuth rings, and no satellites. Tried reinitialising it, and still no satellites showing on the constellation screen. Called in at my dad's house to see if his GPS was showing the same lack of satellites - expecting that it would be functioning 'as normal' - which it was. Started to clear the memories on the GPS until one by one which made no difference to the constellation screen. Went for a full restart (before I invoked the doomsday scenario - and reflashed the firmware) and it sprang back into life...... took Dad's unit as a backup just in case, but it's been AOK all day. Anyone else seen this - or anything like it - happen ? (Email to Thales Tech Support is on it's way)
