Changes made from version 2.40 to 2.51:
* Corrected avoiding highways
With Firmware 2.51 it is now possible to avoid highways, in case that the route is not longer than about 70 miles. On european streets this will result in avoiding highways (Bundesstrassen) and also motorways (Autobahnen) at the same time.
Bundesstrassen:
- Speed Limit: about 62 miles/hour
- normally single-lane, sometimes 2 lanes per direction
Autobahnen:
- Speed Limit: normally no speed limit at germany, but about 75 miles/hour in most european countries
- minimum 2 lanes, maximum 4 lanes for each direction
In areas with a lot of highways and motorways, "avoid highways" will result in chaotic routes on the Colorado. This means that a tour to a city that is about 10 miles away will result in a route that is about 80 miles long, because the Colorado avoids all highways and motorways. When the destination city is more than about 70 miles away, the Colorado uses the motorways anyway.
With the last firmware update of the Zumo and BMW Navigator III plus, it is now possible to really avoid only motorways (highways will not be avoided at the same time -> correct). Therefore, I was confident that the new Colorado would have this new routing engine with the next firmware update also.
Hopefully, Garmin will make the avoid highways/avoid motorways working like it already works for the Zumo (avoiding motorways and highways separately).
The current option "avoid highways" is not useable on (at least) europeen streets.
I would appreciate, if this point could be added to the FAQ and Issues List.

You have to use one of the wide data fields on the lower end of the trip computer page. Then you see the the seconds also.

Have you tried changing the zoom levels and text sizes for Map Points to see if this changes the behavior?
Shortcuts->Setup->Map->Options->Advanced->Waypoints->Zoom Levels or Text Sizes->Map Points

Waypoints option is not available on my unit!
Tried all other options you mention.
One further click onto "Zoom Levels" and or "Text Size" and you can change the Zoom Levels and/or Text sizes for Waypoints, Streetnames, etc.

My compass stoped working. anyone know what i need to do? what steps do I need to take to reset my unit?
First of all, check the settings:
Setup/Heading/Compass
If the compass is set to "OFF", select "AUTO" and the compass will start working.
After this, you have to calibrate the compass.

Some POI issues for the issue-list:
- POI category names should be able to contain more than the current 14 characters. A 60CSx supports more than 17 characters for example.
- It is possible to have multiple categories that contain sub categories itself.
----> In the search dialog it is only possible to search in a category but not in a sub category. This is common behaviour on most units, but should be enhanced, if possible. For example: In the category "Fast food", it would be nice to search for only the sub category "McDonalds" instead of having all the other Restaurants on the search dialog.
-The POI-description is not visible (already in the issue-list, I guess).

On a 60CSx and a Colorado 300 I use sub categories as follows:
Folder Structure on the computer:
POI (Main folder)
-> Category1 (Folder with Category1)
----> Sub Category1_1.gpx (1st sub category)
----> Sub Categorie1_1.bmp (Bitmap for 1st sub category)
----> Sub Category1_2.gpx (2nd sub category)
----> Sub Categorie1_2.bmp (Bitmap for 2nd sub category)
-> Category2 (Folder with Category2)
----> Sub Category2_1.gpx (1st sub category)
----> Sub Categorie2_1.bmp (Bitmap for 1st sub category)
----> Sub Category2_2.gpx (2nd sub category)
----> Sub Categorie2_2.bmp (Bitmap for 2nd sub category)
On the unit, this creates one single gpi-file.
In the search dialog of the unit, there are two categories now:
- Category1
- Category2
On the map page, I see the 4 different sub categories with 4 diifferent icons.
Therefore, I don't see a reason for having multiple gpi-files?

The issue of prompted navigation mode is covered in the list:
1/31/08: Under Setup->Routing there should be a Guidance Method called Prompted which prompts the user how they want to get to the destination they've selected (off road, on-road-distance,on-road-time). 60cs supported this feature. Workaround: Setup different profiles, but the number of key presses is very cumbersome for what used to take 2-3 presses (2.4)
First of all, thank you for your response. The above mentioned issue is not exactly that what I mean. What I have in mind is the option to avoid the recalculation of the original-route when I leave the route.
I agree with your organizational comment -- its very difficult to find what you are looking for in the Issues List although the search function works pretty well.In particular when someones native language isn't english.
At some point I would like to reorganize the list by function (probably the same categories I have in the FAQ so I can easily cross reference the issues in the FAQ).I absolutely would appreciate this. The FAQ are already nice organized. Thank you for working out this issue list and FAQ. In addition, I hope that you don't get my comment as bad criticism.

Maybe a further point for the issue list, if not already posted:
The Colorado always does an automatic recalculation of the route when one is off route. There should be an option implemented like:
OFF Route Recalculation -> OFF/Automatic or Prompted
Just an idea regarding the fantastic issue list. Maybe it is possible to make further sub categories. For example:
- Must fix (P2)
- Tracks (Sub1)
...
...
- Routing -> Street (Sub2)
...
...
- Waypoints (Sub3)
...
...
and so on.

Garmin are addressing this issue now, but it has not made it into the Colorodo, or any other unit, where road navigation is more like a secondary thing.
As I'm writing I now got a bit uncertain, but I think it is the Zumo that has got two different levels of highways to avoid.
In Sweden, it would be motorvägar/riksvägar separately. In Germany Autobahnen/Bundesstrassen.

you are right. It is the Zumo and the very close unit BMW Navigator III+ that has got the possibility to avoid Autobahnen and Bundesstrassen separately. It was a big issue in Europe, especially germany, because the Zumo is made for motobike-usage (see the thread here. It is german, but the amount of postings -441- says it all). Therefore, this unit must have the possibility to avoid Autobahnen. On the other hand side, there is really no need to avoid Bundesstrassen at the same time. These are totally different types of roads here.
Now Garmin knows how to handle Autobahnen and Bundesstrassen and I hope that they implement the avoid Autobahnen feature as soon as possible.

Avoid highways seems to be broken with City Nav NT 2008 North America as well. I'll add it to the list but it would be good for you to send this directly to Garmin as well.

Ok, thank you for the feedback. Regarding the european, especially the german Motorways/Highways, I sent the following e-mail to: support at garmin dot com. Because my english isn't the best, I hope that they understand what I mean:
"Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I am owner of a eTrex Vista b/w, a 60CSx and since this week I am using the Colorado 300.
The 60CSx is a good unit, that I use for outdoor and street navigation on a moto-bike with City Navigator 8 Europe.
As a moto-biker I try to avoid highways. Instead of straight highways I am looking for winding streets with a lot of curves.
The 60CSx has an routing option to avoid highways. On european streets this will result in avoiding highways (Bundesstrassen) and also motorways (Autobahnen) at the same time.

Here at Europe, the "avoid highway"-option is a heavy discussed issue.

The option "avoid highways" doesn't work at all here on european roads (City Navigator 8). This behaviour is independant from the length of the route. I would appreciate, if someone could double-check this on Garmin US-Streetmaps.

Some time ago Garmin did start to post firmware update first on webupdater, and then some days later as manual download. Some units can only be updated trough webupdater.
I think that there is no need for Webupdater. For the Colorado 300 for example, you find the firmware 2.40 here as downloadable file:

thank you very much for this first summary.
Because of the very big internal memory, I hope that a saved track can be longer than 500 trackpoints and that the time stamp didn't get lost. The manual doesn't helps very much regarding the track issues, so unfortunately the user has to test this features by himself.

Hello,
I often use track navigation on my 60 CSx. Unfortunately there are some strict limitations:
- It is impossible to load and navigate a track from the (mini) sd-card
- When saving the actice track log to the unit (saved track), the saved track is cutted off and shortened to only 500 trackpoints. TIn addition the time stamp will be deleted.
Therefore, I would like to ask the Colorado owners, if the Colorado-Series still has this limitations too.
- It is possible to load and navigate tracks longer than 500 trackpoints directly from the sd-card?
- Is it possible to navigate to a specific track point within the track?
- How does tracback works on the Colorado units?
- Does the Colorado navigate each single trackpoint or is the "virtual tracback-route" still limited to 250 waypoints?
- Will the time stamp be deleted when saving a track log in the unit?
Some screenshots would be fine.

it would be interesting to compare the performance of the Colorado vs the 60 CSx, when scrolling or zooming the map with the same detail level.
For example:
Basemap on
Detailled Map on (Topo, City Navigator, etc.)
Detail level: higher
Declutter off
Another issue:
When I look on this video
, then it seems possible to add satellite maps (or other bitmap based maps) on the unit. Could you confirm this, Anders?Thanks
