  1. quote: Thursday my find streak was broken by not one but four caches that were labeled as 4 on the difficulty scale. There will always be some people who can hide things more cleverly than I can find them. I don't feel a bit sorry for you Marty! We were skunked by a 1/1 hidden by a four-year-old today! I'm so embarrassed, I shouldn't even post this! Good Luck ktjensen, It's just a game! Where in the nursery rhyme does it say Humpty Dumpty is an egg?
  2. Where are Majicman & Eric O'Connor when you need 'em??? ___________________________________________ Back to the question: Mother Gootz: 39 & 40 is creeping up soon! Gander Gootz: 38 Gosslings: Almost 3 & Almost 1 Caching is LIFE! Where in the nursery rhyme does it say Humpty Dumpty is an egg?
  3. Thanks everyone for some great tips! We love trips along the river as well as along the wine tour. If time permits, maybe we can crash a Wed. night event too! We'll be dropping a couple of travel bugs (high commodity item around here!) I can't wait for our vacation now! Thanks again fellow cachers! 4. My family lives in Tigard, SW of the city. However, we're staying at Residence Inn Riverwalk. We've hiked Triple Falls, B.C. (before children) & that's probably slightly more strenuous than we'd like this time around. We are also avid wine enthusiasts, so anywhere in the Willamette valley would be great & we can combine our obsessions! Where in the nursery rhyme does it say Humpty Dumpty is an egg?
  5. Okay, I know I can do the search, but not knowing the area very well, I thought I'd come to the experts! We're going to be in the Portland area Sept. 28-Oct 6 & want to do a few caches while we're there. The closest caches to my brother's house seem to be multis & puzzles. This is what I'm looking for... One fairly challenging cache that may or may not be friendly to strollers (I may be able to borrow a baby backpack), maybe in or near some nice mountains/hills. We don't mind a bit of a drive, but with a couple o' yungins' we can't walk long trails. Ratings of 1/2 or 3 would be good. I'm also looking for a couple 1/1 or 2 rated caches in the Eugene area. Part of our trip includes a wedding in Eugene. I'm hoping we'll have some free time the morning of the wedding to sneak in a cache! Thanks y'all! 6. When I first started caching, I couldn't believe there wasn't a cache in my favorite local park. I hid one just as soon as I felt comfortable and plan to hide a holiday themed cache in the same park in the late November. Where in the nursery rhyme does it say Humpty Dumpty is an egg?
  7. quote: Frankly, it doesn't bother me. It's not for everyone apparently. When I first heard of geocaching I immediately 'knew' it was for me and that I had just found something very special. I discovered Geocaching one day while surfing the internet & was hooked immediately. By the time my husband got home from work, I was in a frenzy! He could see how excited I was even though he wasn't too thrilled at first. Then he checked out the site & then set about buying me a GPS. (Megellan Sportrac Pro) By the time we did our first hunt, he was just as hooked as me! We tell people what we do, but I don't care if they're not interested in it. The ones who are interested want to check out the GPS, go to the site, etc... If they really want in on it, we offer to take them with us. This stuff is new & will take awhile to cache on (pun intended). Meanwhile, I'm having the time of my life, enjoying soaring summer temps, searching for little treasures & signing logbooks & coming up with new ideas to hide more caches! Life's great!!! 8. My husband is an avid golfer & I'm SURE he would travel a great distance for a golf themed cache! How about instruction videos, golf mags, books, tees, balls, any golf related merchandise you can fit in a can! Too bad you're in Boston, I don't think he'll travel that far this year, but as I have family in Mass., I could talk him into it later. Good Luck! MG
  9. quote: Remember, this is my OPINION and I would like to hear yours. Thanks. Sorry, Irvingdog & Dru.. most honorable friends, I agee with dteec (DEET enthusiast?)...The pictures are a bit disruptive, especially on a hot topic!... But...Know what? It's just his OPINION, so if you like your pics on your sig line....So Be It! I truly LOVE the avatars on the left though, they are/can be windows into the lives of our fellow geocachers! Cache On, Baby!
  10. Although the mags I seem to collect are Parents & Nick Jr... maybe I should trade those with my mommy friends!

  12. Like Pluckers, I'd like to see some template letters that we can use to contact land managers. Maybe some of you already have done up something nice you wouldn't mind sharing...

  14. Gander & I are going to these really cool parks we didn't even know existed. The big gossling loves those "treasures"! The little gossling just loves being out of the house & avoiding naptime! As for naptime, they do eventually insist we take them home to rest. Happened today, when we finished finding 3 caches & after lunch, Gootz & Gander wanted to explore a park to hide a cache & big gossling wanted to go home to take a nap!!! Ahh, the life of a two-yr-old!
  15. I'm with you on this one! A week behind you on Newbie-ship. I can certainly see where this all could be headed if we don't take affirmative action NOW! Happy Caching! MG

  17. I've been mulling this idea over for awhile. How does an Event hunt sound on a tropical island??? I lived in the Cayman Islands '89-'92 and got involved with (then employed by) the Pirates' Week Festival. The main events are the Pirates Landing & street dance and the Trial of the Pirates, followed by another street dance the next Saturday. Each island district has a Heritage Day to show off their bit (literally) of the island. The Seattle Seafair Pirates have been going down there for years & I'm sure they could help us stock some temporary caches. AND, I'm sure the Pirates' Week officials as well as landowners would help us plant some, etc, etc... I'm willing to team up with some planner types to make this happen... Thoughts please! 18. quote: Isuzu Trooper (downside: falls over at times, pluses: large interior, can haul lots of stuff...) I drive a '98 Trooper & love it! The rollover stuff was fixed by Isuzu in '97. I carry ALOT of gear when caching (wagon, stroller, diaper bag, caching backpack...) & have plenty of room to spare. I hear lots of people like yellow jeeps too! 20. Our first try at caching started the same as yours. I nearly broke my thumb the first time, but was determined to bag my first find! As of Sunday, we now have 10 finds. I cache with my hubby (usually) and two children ages 2 & 8 mos. We've purchased an ammo can & started filling it with goodies for our first hide. Although we haven't selected a site yet, we've got some good ideas. Enjoy this new activity! FWIW: Read as many of the posts as you can. You'll not only learn alot, but also get to know some very fun people! Fairy tales & happy trails help old women stay young.

  22. quote: I want to add more as people submit their thoughts. You clued me in via email, although tried to accuse someone else! It's funny/odd/sweet that you felt the need to come clean (almost) for me. Thanks. If I had any feelings towards our friend Madame M, it was a combination of green-eyed monster & admiration of her looks (I'm a woman, not blind!) and some suspicion when she hadn't logged any finds after the GPS arrived. I never directed any email or posts directly to her. THe whole charade has made me more aware though, how easily predators can reach people. As I read the forums more, especially that awful weapons & geocaching thread, however, I see more usernames that look like they may be alteregos & double identities. So, in this vein, I may find myself being much more cautious of posting on the boards. You see, my children will be old enough for the internet in time, and this kind of thing is what I will worry about as they start to explore the world. Luckily, this was a joke and a good one. I hope others won't use the idea to really hurt others. Okay, enough ranting!!! No more sour grapes today... Baby's crying. I'm gone for now! Fairy tales & happy trails help old women stay young.
  23. You might try this address: Groundspeak 15600 NE 8th Street, Suite B1 Bellevue, WA 98008 It's where to send subscriptions, should be the right address. quote: Take the direct route.
