Recently I found a section of the cache page that provided the Total mileage of a TB. It was located under "Inventory" then "See the History".

 

My question is: Where else can I find this information?

 

Also, I noticed that other cache pages, with TB/coins, did not offer this option. Why/why not?

I am new at using my E-trex (yellow) gps. I have two questions:

 

1) How do I determine if my gps unit is providing accurate readings. If the pgs unit is inaccurate how do I correct it?

 

2) Any suggestions on how to get closer to the cache when the gps reading is always off?

I read about how people get better coords when placing a cache. Same process to find a cache?

 

Whenever I search for a cache I have found that I am off by at least 20-40 degrees. I realize that may not seem like much, but when I am still learning what to look for ...just finding the general area in a park or the right yard on a street means a whole lot.

Newby here! It is frustrating to look and look and still not find anything, resulting in a DNF. :D My best friend, on a hunt, is my GPS unit. Imagine how frustrating when I come away empty handed because the coords were off and my gps unit right on. Especially since most of the cache sites in my area are in an area high in muggles and micro hides.

 

Thanks to everyone that provides accurate coords when available.

[Historic caches]

Locating caches at a historical or informative location has revived my interest in caching. That way all those DNF's lose their sting.

Being a newby I completely understand where you are coming from. When I found my first cache by myself I was so excited I completely forgot to look for muggles. Imagine my embarassment when I looked up and saw a guy on his bike leaning on my car checking out what I was doing. Also, another guy was riding his bike in circles going back and forth on the street. Oh, and don't forget the neighbor watering his flowers. ALL of them were checking me out. Color me red.

I found out that they all knew about the cache and were watchers. Geesh! We had a nice little chat.

The area where I live thrive on micro hides. This size is still difficult for me locate. I avoid them since I am not into "how many" I find. The icro/nano hide would addsome interest to the hunt.

 

Would you mind sharing simple/detailed (oxymoron) instructions on how to make one? I would appreciate it immensely.

I was thinking of getting a small piece of aluminum and stamping (10-12 point font) the tb tracking number on it. This would fit into most Microcaches (Film cansiters).

 

What do you think?

I am happy to report that the TB I made has been traveling around and enjoyed by everyone who has encountered it so far!

 

In fact, I made two others that I gave away to other Geocachers I know, and one of them has had similar good results!

We used Phtotoshop to shrink the real TB dog tag and a photo of our team, and then added the text. The resulting printout was 1 inch x .78 inch and fit inside a clear vial that was intended to keep nitro tablets inside a pill fob. We used the pill fob for Micro/nano cache hides.

I am new to geochaching so my experience is limited. I've found TB's without any direction info so I need to take them back to the computer to check on the goal and history. By that time it isn't feasible to return it to the same cache so I just move it to the next cache I find.

 

P.S. I am looking for the 'web page' that has the TB's and the total miles they have traveled. Found it once but cannot locate it again.
