Today I went out caching in Surrey and the 'Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy' cache was not as per the cache name.
Surrey Police had muggled the cache [an ammo box] - leaving only a note, crime ref no. and phone number.
They claimed on the note that the container was 'Inappropriate'.
Do they have the authority to do this ? and will this cast some doubt on the future suitability of ammo boxes for caces in the future ?
I imagine that a member of the public must have contacted the Boys in Blue and they felt obliged to do something but I would feel that the box should be replaced if it was my cache.
What do you think ?
Cache owner has of course been informed.

The police have reported back to me.
From the car registration number, they were able to track down the dog owner, and she was visited by the police. She denied the whole thing.
........I'm sure that if this had happened in the States this matter would have been cleared up. By simply shining a torch on the wound and likewise on the dogs jaw, the teethmarks could have been matched up and the dog and owner consequently would have faced justice [fried in an electric chair]
You did everything you could have done.

A policeman that I know, told me that I could have claimed compensation from the dog owner for the bite. I hadn't known that. I think it's possible to get insurance for yourself against the possibility that your dog bites someone, although I think that finding a way to prevent the dog from biting, would be greatly preferable.
All responsible dog owners have their dogs insured. This is as much for third party liability as well as insurance against medical expenses. If my dog went native in a field of lambs then the resultant chaos could cost a fortune. Likewise if 'Douggie' ran in front of a lorry causing it to lose control could result in major trauma.
Take legaly advice and take the owner to court !

For the record [and linking the two topics]When I was at University, a friend of mine was mixing with a good many 'dogs' and also ended up with an 'itch'
The local clinic put him right though !
p.s Every sympathies with your situation. I have a dog [springer spaniel] who has bitten in the past but only when his territory or possesions were at iminent risk [a bone]
Maybe there was a touch of jealousy as you had been 'stealing the attention of it's owner when you were talking.
I agree that the dog does need to be muzzled and you have taken the correct action.
I feel sorry for the owner too as it would have been very distresing for her. She may well have to take her dog to an anger/ behavioural expert as I had to do with my dog.

Well I was using the Geocaching option on my android phone for just the one cache whilst I was out and about [i usually use my Garmin GPS]
It was a Church micro multi. Having gathered the clues and solved the simple puzzle I suddenly realised that I could not work out how to programme in search cords.
How is this done ?

Contact the owner and get them to 'up' the grading to 5/5.
They could then contact me so that I can add it to my bookmark listing of extreme caches !
Disapointingly I'm a little outside of the area to do it myself however..........

Well I was contacted by the producer asking whether I was prepared to participate.
He had 2 of my caches in mind and was also interested in doing a seperate item on one of the [highly secret]locations .
I am too busy work wise so turned down the offer but I did arrange for a suitably briefed and keen substitute [Who I feel could cope with the fame and future Hollywood commisions]
The producer said he would phone me back on Thursday but he failed to do so and I don't have his phone number !

Not certain but the brief glimpse of the wall behind the T/P looks suspiciously like Box Hill.
Pharisse is correct.He also has a very good eyesight as the wall barely appears !
What also kind of confirms this is the final scene where you can see a couple of intrepid ramblers stepping out from the lower car park in front of the Burford Bridge hotel.This is at the base of Box Hill.

Well I do have a cache based on Winston Churchills parrot. The bird is still alive [just] and living in a garden centre in the S.E of England.
My dog almost killed it a few years ago, I was just able to grab his lead in time !

There is a car park at the TOP of Box Hill. It is a N.T chargeable car park [of course] and there are many decent caches within spitting distance. [staggering distance for over 50's - that includes me !]

I'd still suggest making it an event.
The under 50's can wander off while the photos are being taken of the 50's and over...

I watched the feature as I was getting ready for work this morning.
To be honest, given the short attention span of viewers at this time in the morning [including my own]I think the puddle cache bit must of put most people off. What were they thinking of the producers for showing this ?
Were there no Geocachers around who could have put them right on this point ?
It was 'sold' on the idea of being a kids pastime [and it's certainly great for kids] but maybe if a mention was made of some of the other reasons why people go caching i.e to get to those unique viewpoints, or really interesting locations or even 'Extreme caches' it may have been a little bit more attractive.
I only give it 3/10 i'm afraid.

Mixed feelings really, especially as I may be investing in some woodland myself as part of my SIPP pension. The woodland will have to be managed correctly and will have to comply with some extremely stringent regulations about what I can and cannot do.
At least I will not be planting miles upoun miles of non indigeonous woodland and changing the entire biosphere as is the case with much of the Forestry Commision woodland. I will also not be erecting massive chargeable car park with fixed daily pricing or ridiculous visitor centres.
In many respects fragmenting woodland ownership could be good for the countryside although I accept many of the potential problems others have noted.
Further debate is certainly required.

Not sure that this is working anymore. When I try it a search cannot locate any cache within approx a mile even though it will be listed [ distance to cache is stated as zero and I know that's incorrect !]
Perfectly happy with the Groundspeak app in comparisom.

Sorry I may have been describing a problem I had with Outlook. But:I had this exact problem with my laptop a couple of months ago. I had downloaded and installed the plug in BUT had selected NO at a crucial point when I was asked about allowing something. I have Win 7 and use IE and the problem was that the plug in was disabled.
To enable it you have to start IE as admin (Shift and right click on IE in the start up list and select start as admin) Then go to Tools and Trust Centre. Select the plug ins and hopefully you should see the garmin one under the disabled list. Click on it and enable it. Then restart IE as normal and it 'should' work.

To re-enable an add-on in Internet Explorer 8
Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, and then click Manage Add-ons.
Under Show, click All add-ons.
Click the add-on you want to enable i.e. the Garmin one, and then click Enable.

I tried it but the plug ins have been enabled even though on the test page they say they have not been installed.
I have also updated the Garmin drivers and nothing working.
Have tried an alternative cable and all thatb remains is for me to try and load it up from another P.C to see if my GPS is the problem [it is 4.5 years old now]

I just noticed that a beta version of Garmin's Opencaching.com (not to be confused with OpenCaching.org.uk) has gone live in the UK.
If this is open source then it might be a good move?
If I were in Groundspeak's shoes, I would be a bit worried about whether they're serious about this site. If they aren't, and it's just been put up by one marketing guy without much support behind him, they have no worries. But if Garmin seriously want to dominate the world of caching web sites, then they probably could, although GS would put up a good fight.
This might be of the areas where the first to get in, dominates the field, like Amazon. Or it might be the sort where the second major entrant learns from the mistakes of the first, and takes the market. For now, I'll stay with GS, but Garmin getting into the game is interesting.
I had a look. I did a search for London; 1 cache within about 50 miles of the city. I suppose it's early days.
Interestingly, that cache involved climbing a big tree; the cache owner said he used two ropes.
This contravenes one of their rules, "Don’t hide your caches on cliffs, down abandoned mines, in trenches or anywhere that might put the safety of geocachers in peril." I think that's a silly rule. I think you should be able to make caches as dangerous as you like. I can decide for myself not to climb that tree. I already have.
Good news Mr Solly, the cache is also a published Geocache [Groundspeak - that is !]

Having climbed it with Bashfull a couple of monthes ago I can confirm that is dangerous and perililous. Please don't fret however, I would be only too happy to supply the double ropes and help you up .
The most dangerous thing about this cache it would seem is the fact that Mr Farmer is a little angry that a German came over from the Motherland and put this cache up and 'put the wind up' an innocent cacher a couple of weeks ago.

Also - try different USB ports on the PC. It shouldn't make a blind bit of difference, but you never know with computers! Try a different USB lead, it's possible you've got a cable parted.

When I was a kid I cut the handle off, filed the edge smooth , drilled a hole and attached a swivel and hook which I then used as a lure fishing for pike and Perch. I remember catching a 13 pound pike with one when I was just 11. The fish seemed as large as me !
