  1. The rules for virtuals are different from one area to another but this is what one admin (WGA) has in his profile "the cacher must show how this is a spectacular location, and it is impossible to hide a actual cache at it's location..."

I don't think you'll be able to sell a firemans memorial as being spectacular. You might want to focus on finding a way to make it an off-set cache where you use information at the memorial and hide a cache in another area or work with the firemen and you may find they are friendly to the idea of a log book at the memorial.

But doesn't this contradict what you just said in this threadOption for moderators to stop the bickering, without ending on topic discussionwhere you said "I think its a good idea. The moderators have to get a little bit more proactive - especially regarding personal attacks. Closing the thread to all because of one or two jerks, is not fair."

I think sending warnings out like that would help deter the continousness. Sure people could throw up a sock puppet account, but the same goes with it. I know I can block by email and I can also block users with certain email accounts like yahoo and hotmail. It's an inconvienance for others that don't abuse the system, but if things got out of hand I'm sure the nice people would understand...

Sounds like an interesting option but are they allowed back in after a cooling off period or is banned for life? If banned for life then I would think sockpuppets would become very common.

Wow, I wish I lived where ever you are Brian. I've only got 1286 within 100 miles of my house. I've found 2.69 per day but that's going to slide as there just aren't that many caches left to hunt in the area.

  5. With my caches hidden I don't really think I spent all that much. It didn't take long to realize that a physical cache with trade items would quickly become an empty box so, most of my caches are micros. I use pill bottles that cost me a cool dime and put a georged dollar in most of them.

Now on the subject of other expenses, are we going to include hotel rooms, digital camera, DPA, a bunch of software programs, boots... I've gone through three pair so far... and on and on. I'm sure it's thousands of dollars... actually I think I better stop thinking about it.

  6. I've taken my mountain bike on many hunts and when I'm hiding caches too. When I get to the point I'm going off trail completely I lift it up on my shoulders and continue on as long as the undergrowth doesn't become too heavy. If I have to leave it, I don't worry about locking it but I do set a waypoint so I can find it again.

  7. I can't think of ever running into geocachers at my caches but I've had a number of the cache placers run into me at their caches. For one reason or another several times the person was hunting for their own cache which had been reported missing. No matter what the situation I'll always walk up to geocachers and strike up a conversation even if it's just to say hello. I usually start off with... any luck or did you find it? Sorta like what you'd say to a fisherman, if it turns out they aren't geocachers they give you a strange look and move on.

  8. As far as I'm concerned the admins can place whatever cache they like, they spend a lot of time approving caches for free so they should have some sort of bonus. Either that or they should be required to follow the same rules as everyone else and an admin besides themselves should give their caches the once over.

Well said, I've cross posted a 17 of my 59 active caches so far, and posted one cache there only and plan to post my next series of caches there exclusively. Once we've built up a good size base of caches there it will become more viable and draw more folks.

Yep, you are correct. It's tough to keep that straight with so many threads weaving in and around the stats.

If it doesn't hurt your not doing it right

Oddly enough there the number of posts is tracked and we celebrate folks for milestones in posts too. Besides that, what games don't have some sort of score and a winner or leader?
