    Would you like to have your trackables released in a foreign country?

     

     

    I am happy to release trackables in the United Arab Emirates and Oman - let me know if you are interested. I have just finished dropping 20 coins on behalf of a US cacher - see my profile for the various coins. Also you will note that I generally take around 8 photo's per travel item for upload to the website, so send me some trackables if you like.

    Travel Bug Visitors

    I have done it with two geocoins that I received as gifts from CachingCoins as part of the World Release Register

    So far they are both still stuck in the United Arab Emirates, but I trust they will get to the USA eventually, and, more importantly, they will make it home.

    UAE caches - increase in muggled caches . . .

    Hi All,

     

    I have been unfortunate to lose THREE travel items recently. :D Granted, one was in Thailand, but I lost both a croc shoe travel bug and a TFTC geocoin from UAE caches. :) In addition, I have noticed a few other cachers that have lost travel items in muggled UAE caches recently. Yes, I know, unfortunately travel items go missing all the time, but surely the risk can be reduced by a careful selection of caches into which the items are placed?

     

    I have noticed an alarming trend related to the UAE caches. While I appreciate the efforts of fellow cachers, caches seem to be being placed in places frequented all too often by muggles. With the high expat traffic, particularly for new caches, muggles are bound to be curious, increasing the risk that the cache will be discovered. I can imagine that the sight of well-heeled expat's crawling around the bushes searching for caches will only peak the interest of muggles. :D

     

    I would like to suggest greater discretion in terms of hiding new caches, perhaps in less frequented areas. For me it is more the quality of the caches than the quantity. While part of the challenge is finding caches in populated areas, I for one prefer to be completely alone when I find the cache and sign the logbook, far away from the prying eyes of potential muggles. :D I prefer as well that my travel items be placed in caches that are less likely to be muggled. ;)

     

    I am pleased to see so many more cachers in the UAE. :D Hopefully I will get the chance to touch base on the caching trail soon, especially having missed the UAE cachers get together while I was on vacation in Jordan.

    Tibet not a country?

    Hi from Dubai,

     

    I am busy planning a trip to Nepal and Tibet next year. I see that Tibet is not listed as a country in the drop-down box on the geocaching home page. Or did I miss it?

     

    Does this mean that there are no caches in Tibet? Perhaps Tibet could be added as a country to encourage cachers to drop some caches there.

     

    Also I see that Yemen is shown in two places, i.e. 1) People Den Rep Yemen, and 2) Yemen.

    The vacation rule

    Hi from Dubai,

     

    I would like to suggest the option of an "unmaintained cache", particularly in countries where caches are few and far between. While I understand the reason behind the vacation rule, i.e. that you cannot place a cache outside of your general caching area to allow you to properly maintain the cache, I feel this may need to be reconsidered.

     

    For example, I was fortunate to travel to Morocco, Phuket (an island, part of Thailand), Jordan and Bahrain this year, each of which has around 10 caches (across the WHOLE country). I really would have liked to find more caches, and even hide a cache or two of my own. We found so many lovely places, to which a cache in the location would have attracted more cachers.

     

    Granted, there may be situations where the cache is found, muggled, and the contents left lying about, but hopefully those occurrences should be few. In such a case the owner could just disable the cache from his home country. YES, I know, what about the remains of the cache? Something that will remain a problem.

     

    I would be interested to know others' comments on this issue. Hopefully I can place a cache or two the next time I am in Bahrain.

    Waypoint NAMES to my GPS

    Hi from Dubai,

     

    I am using EasyGPS (and I have just downloaded the trial version of ExpertGPS). Also I recently joined as a premium member so I get a file eack week of the caches in the United Arab Emirates and Oman (around 120 in total).

     

    What I would like to do is download the NAME to my GPS, rather than the cache CODE. I have been successful only by going into each waypoint individually (right click, edit waypoint, change the name of the waypoint by clicking on the double arrow).

     

    What I would like is an easy way to do this for all waypoints at one time. I tried Edit - - - Preferences - - - Geocaching - - - and set the waypoint to Geocache name, yet when I download them to my GPS (Garmin Nuvi 350) they still come out as the cache CODES on my GPS.

     

    Two questions:

     

    1) Is there a way for me to select all waypoints at one time and change the setting so that when they download to my GPS it shows the cache NAME rather than the CODE?

     

    2) Is it possible, when setting up the pocket query, to allow users the choice of whether they get the waypoints by NAME or cache CODE?

    Grabbing a Travel Item

    I wonder whether it is a good idea to create a function by which you are notified if someone grabs a travel item from your inventory? Not just something that you own (for which you already receive an e-mail), but any other travel item in your possession.

     

    That way you can determine whether it is a legitimate grab, such as for this geocoin - - - http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...81-c56acfd644db - - - or whether someone is being too eager in logging a travel item, or for any other reason that you may want to know if someone grabs something from you.

     

    I for one would like to know when someone grabs a travel item from me, rather than just seeing the item as missing from my inventory.

    World Wide Flash Mob

    Wonder whether you have heard of the WWFM (World Wide Flash Mob) event being held around the world on November 10? Details here - - - http://docs.google.com/View?docid=d3vxrg4_...bqd8d&pli=1

     

    Seems that a lot of cachers will be taking part.

    Not something I am likely to attend, but other may be more inclined to do so. I will not be arranging a similar one for the UAE, though others may feel inclined to do so.

    Well, the logs look just fine for me. No bold or larger fonts. The bug descriptions do have such settings.

     

    I'm wondering if it isn't a browser setting. What are you using?

     

    WOW, that's weird. I will ask a fellow cacher to check and see what the problem seems to be that I am seeing different size fonts, etc... I am using the latest version of Internet Explorer - Version 7.

    Travel Items to Saudi

    Okay, got quite a bunch of travelbugs and geocoins from GeoCRAt today, I'll be placing those around Riyadh little by little in upcoming future. I'll prefer to put those in caches that are quite easily reachable with 2WD, so that those are easy to pick up by visitors who happen to come to the area.

     

    Thanks Timo for helping my / our travel bugs and coins on their journies. Many cachers like to see their travel items in "strange" countries so thanks for your efforts. I found my first cache in Saudi (and that was the only cache I found in Saudi), so perhaps some travel items will end up there, perhaps even in my own caches.

    Travel Bug pages

    Just wondering how some travel bug logs seem to adopt the font of the text in which the description is written. For example, I have noticed that my travel bug - this one has had the logs made bold.

     

    Another example is here has had its logs increased in size.

     

    Any ideas how I can fix this for my Travel Bugs?

    Travel Items to Saudi

    Does anyone want coins or Travel Bugs to travel in and around Saudi Arabia? I am meeting a Saudi resident (he is from Finland I believe) this weekend (25 August) to pass him some coins / Travel Bugs.     "World Release Register" for Coins & Bugs

    Would you like to have your trackables released in a foreign country?

     

    There are several of us in various parts of the world that are prepared to help cachers to get their trackables into the wild around the world. From the response I have had in a very short period of time it appears that people are keen on this sort of service, so I guess some sort of list would help those keen on seeing their Trackables travel in far away lands. I will start and I'm sure that those from Aussie and Portugal who also are keen to help will follow my suit.

     

    If you would like any trackable items released in the South Island of New Zealand, the land of the long white cloud, just drop me a line :mad:

    UAE geocoin under consideration

    Hi, the coin is still very much under consideration, and has not started on the drawing board, let alone having left the drawing board. I am not sure of the plans at this stage, though thetoadnet will be able to keep interested parties updated (and upload his draft for comments).

    UAE geocoin under consideration

    A fellow cacher is interested in creating a UAE geocoin. He will need a minimum order of 250 coins to make it feasible. Would anyone be interested in sharing the costs of such a coin? I have committed to an order of 50 coins. This cacher (thetoadnet) will retain design control, etc… over the coin.

     

    Coins will be around US$6 each.

    Taking my brand new TB and Geocoin on a trip

    I'm going to Arizona from Montana at the beginning of August and wanted to take my trackables with me to leave in a cache down there. They are not even currently activated and they are the first of my own. I want to show their mileage from here to AZ, but having not seen the process of setting up new trackables I wasn't sure of the best way to do that. Would it be to log them, perhaps in my own cache, and then retrieve them again? Or is there another, better way for me to do this? Any info would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

     

    You may want to try something like I did for this geocoin that I own.
