  1. I know this is an old thread, but I was notified last week that GEOCACHING, COM has discontinued their support of the Benchmark Search function associated with the game. SUCKS!!! There is so much historical significance in the USGS Benchmarks that I find it totally fascinating. Any time I go on vacation I plan ahead to find as many BM's as possible. Now I can't "LOG" them as that part of the game is not there anymore. Is there another game or logging of BM's online that can be played for BM Searching? OR is there any computer whizzes out there that can come up with a BM game similar to Geocaching? Mercy sakes....

  2. I use the Scaredy Cat Benchmark Viewer regularly, it is great. Currently there is a problem with that site: in the pick a state window, it goes up to North Dakota in alphabetical order, no states after that. Is there a "home" address or a contact link for Scaredy Cat to notify them of the problem? Nothing listed on their site. Also, there is a link to cut and paste where you insert the two letter state designation then enter, but that does not work either. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.   Thanks!!

  3. I found a benchmark that had been previously reported as "Not Found" by the US Power Squadron. What I found was only the 5/8" copper coated steel rod, none of the other references in the listing. I logged my find on the Geocaching.com page concerning this Benchmark. Does Geocaching.com forward this find to the NGS or do I have to file a report of some kind? (I'm an absolute new-by doing this but it is great fun!!) Thanks

  4. There is irony in this subject matter... I know that the USCG Auxilliary is the civilian arm of the USCG, and the Power Squadron was the voluntary/educational arm, basically like a Coast Guard Club (privatized if you will, and no offense of course). Now I get the connection with the P/S and NOAA.

The irony you ask? I retired from the regular Coast Guard about 17 years ago, mercy sakes... Never knew that the P/S went on survey hunts... cool! Thanks for the info!
