  1. The ability to filter out individuals and their posts to the forums. Hey Jeremy, that might bring in a few extra bucks! I would kick in $3 bucks a month to be able to apply a spam filter. Seriously, I hope you make a boatload of money with Groundspeak, and it can pay for the Geocaching site. I am happy to pay for the Charter Membership, and have hats, stickers, keychains, and travel bugs that buddies and I have purchased. I don't see the problem, some people have a rather narrow perspective of life, and their definition of a problem is kind of amusing.
  2. quote:One of our local cachers had a good idea: His hiding spot was sufficiently large, so he left a spare chinese food container and lid just in case one gets damaged. If it does, the next finder will, hopefully, trash-out the damaged container. I don't have enough room in this particular spot, but that is a great idea for future use. Thanks, BassoonPilot!
  3. I just 15 minutes ago placed a chinese takeout container cache- oops! However, it is in a spot that I am not sure will last too long, so there is the option of upgrading if it isn't plundered. I used one of the dollar store tupperware style containers on my cache that is located on the beach, and that container has held up well for 5 1/2 months. I am actually going to increase the size of the container, as it gets more visits than I expected. Hawkeye, I like that container, would work well for the beach, off to wally world! BTW, Hawkeye, my latest cache will look really familiar to you- no, not the rock!

  5. The eastern parts of NC have thier share of skeeters, too. Harkers Island has some the size of a medium seagull. The locals joke that the darn things are so big, that the skeeters have ticks!

  7. JeffersonStone and myself filmed another TV segment on Friday with the folks from Time Warner Cable. They hid a cache for us, gave us the coordinates, and then filmed the show of us searching for the cache. The location was West Point on the Eno park in Durham, NC. I had not been there for many years (10-12), and had forgotten how beautiful this park is. A good time was had by all, there will be a 30 minute segment on Triangle Profiles, channel 24 on TW cable. We will post more info on when the show airs when the date is set. Our segment for Playground Earth has been picked up, and it will air later this summer on Fox Sports, I believe. Will post dates as they become available. We may be filming for more shows, will keep you updated. JoeyBob

  9. Wow, how long did that take? You obviously put some thought into the design.

  11. Looking forward to the activation of the cache!
  12. Someone will find it, for sure. I bet most people will work as a team, though. As with previous posters, I don't have internet access on the road, usually, so that would slow me down considerably. I make the trip from NC up to PA a few times a year, so parts of the cache would be agreeable to the boss, I mean the wife I would try to find parts of it anyway, just to help pass the time on the way to visit the Inlaws! I can see the maintenance aspect being a problem, unless you worked out a deal with local cachers. I have one cache about 150 miles from home, but it is about 150 feet from my parents house! Dad loves to read the logs and call me if something interesting happens. Keep us posted on the progress.

  14. SD cards use a different protocol for I/O operations, and are compatible with MMC applications. MMC cards are not forward compatible, and do bad things with Meridians. I think this was discussed a few months ago when the Meridians first came out. I use a Sandisk SD card in my Merigold, love it.
  15. Themed caches are pretty neat, I go out of my way to follow the theme. Kind of adds something to the generic McToy cache.
  16. I agree that some of the locationless caches are not as challenging as "physical" caches. Some of them are fun, the historical types that actually require some research are interesting, and you learn a little about where you are caching. My youngest child has motor skill delays, and has difficulty tramping through the woods for longer distances. He absolutely loves to do some of these locationless type caches while his big brother is in school! This type of cache lets us spend some "quality time", and he is more interested in Geocaching than he used to be. As his ability to participate in more physically demanding caches increases, he is more likely to remain interested. His older brother loves ANY type of cache, and will tear through the woods with the best of them. I hope this will show a little more perspective that different types of caches may serve different cachers, not everyone has the same opportunities or abilities.

  18. Sounds like you guys had to work for that one! I was going to make you work a bit harder for those coordinates, but El Diablo said that you had to get back to Greensboro in a timely fashion! Sounds like you had enough headaches to deal with. Glad to help out with your landmark cache. I will have to find this one when it becomes public. Ryan and I keep talking about taking off early one morning to head your way, we'll keep working on that schedule, and NEVER ending "honey-do" list.

  20. Okay guys, how did it go? Just curious about the hoops that Triffid and Hawkeye had to jump through today. I did check this afternoon, and Hawkeye found the multi cache in Raleigh. El Diablo told me of some of the other things the guys would have to do, any chance of the rest of us finding out more details?

  22. Since the original post subject was completely changed, I am deleting most of this post, as it has become irrelevant. [This message was edited by JoeyBob on May 04, 2002 at 11:10 PM.]
  23. Check out the Centennial Cache for next Saturday. Sounds like a blast, prior committments may prevent my attendance. Buddhavista, have a cold one for me if you can make it. Maybe I can work out a way to be there for the celebration. JoeyBob

  25. El Diablo has agents in the Raleigh area, will be hiding one stage of a multi-STATE cache this weekend. Hawkeye is coming to visit, fellow geocachers! JoeyBob
