  1. I stopped logging my finds back in October for a couple ever changing reasons, instead I post a note and usually upload a photo. If I want (I don't) to know how many finds I have I guess I'd have to go through my notes. Thankfully that sounds like a PIA so I won't have to do it. However, I do know how many FTFs I have so I'm not free from "it's about the numbers" either.
  2. Could you repeat that I didn't read what you said? he said he looked at the Abject Siliness thread, somthing he has never done...the stuff about NORMS really isn't important Could you repeat that? I didn't hear what you wrote?
  3. This looks to be a pretty old thread but I’ll drop my comments in anyway. I am from ScouterMark’s area I think I am familiar with the item that prompted his comment. I also resemble the FTF Greedling, I prefer to think of myself as a FTF Connoisseur, I do have quite a few, with at least 1 per month going back 20 consecutive months and I would like to continue that streak. There is much more to it that dropping everything and running out the door. I do not agree I should sit on the bench and alter the way I choose to participate. So come April 1, I will be ready to attempt more FTFs. I enjoy attempting to be FTF for a variety of reasons and in no particular order here they are; 1. Competition, it is simply I got there before anyone else. 2. See the cache in the original hiding spot. 3. See the cache area undisturbed or no path to it. 4. Upload the first photo into the cache gallery. 5. Figuring how to reprioritize the really important things so that grabbing FTF is the really important thing. Sometimes that is harder and more fun to do than finding the cache. 6. I use the FTF carrot as a motivator to rise earlier. 7. There still is the thrill of opening up the cache and seeing nobody else has been there yet. 8. Night caching is a ball. Night caching in inclement weather is even more fun. 9. I have placed quite a few caches, some with more thought and effort than others but none the less I put in the time to this hobby I am going to bag as many FTF as I can. Now that being said I agree there are items left by other FTFinders that could be taken as a “rub it in”. It was not me I do not trade. Conversely it is not very sporting to sit on a FTF most of a day and not post it. There has been more new cache activity over on your side of town if you commit to getting a FTF you will.
  4. Could you repeat that I didn't read what you said?
  5. Have your parents check out NYGO here http://www.ny-geocaching.org/index.php and your timing couldn't be better as there is a Winter Fest at Mendon Ponds Pk and NYGO will have a table set up here is the link to that event http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1b-cd2e136c4acd
  6. I love the cold & snow, bring it on...it tends to keep the caching lightweights at home. As for the footprints, do not bother looking for a cache until the snow cover is refreshed. Take advantage of what mother nature delivers and you can treat each new snowfall as a chance to FTF Post Snow. Lastly, I enjoy a change in the scenery.

Where on the USGS site did you get that arial? Or is a fee service? How did you over lay the cache location? It would be fun to just use overhead views to try and locate some caches. Good Luck!
  8. After posting the wrong coords for a cache by transposing one number and wasting few cachers a few hours of looking, I still sweat it a little until a FTF has been posted. When I have been lucky enough to find an area with an abundance of good hiding spots I like to be as accurate as possible by averaging several coords. For my easier urban micros with limited hiding locations I have posted “sloppy” coords and let the cachers find it. Only once have I mentioned in a log I thought the coords were off. My thinking being if I found it how could the coords be off?
  9. I am looking to purchase a GPS for in the vehicle and am looking at either the Garmin Streetpilot or the Magellan 750. Does anyone out there have any feedback or recommendation on either unit. We already have a Magellan Meridian Plat. and love it but want something for in the vehicle for driving directions. Wheelygood I do it wrong until I do it right
  10. You might look at MaMA Bear or Abzug and Hayduke I think they have hidden a bunch of rest stop road side caches. Have a good trip Wheelygood I do it wrong until I do it right
  11. Moule, Thanks for the help. Wheelygood I do it wrong until I do it right
  12. Hello, The family and I will be visiting Montreal (staying downtown) and acting like tourists for a couple days later this week. I need an excuse to ditch them at the pool for a few hours and would like to try my hand at caching canuck style. I would be interested in any recommendations for caches you might have. Thanks for any help. Wheelygood Wheelygood I do it wrong until I do it right

  14. Check out Iron Mike's Military Exchange. 2 locations RT 104 east and Ajax Rd. They are in the phone book. I'm guessing the website previuosly listed is theirs as well. Good Luck I look forward to trying to be FTF your cache. Wheelygood I do it wrong until I do it right
  15. I can't spare the time now but hope to get up that way camping this summer. Remember safety first, good fitting lifejackets and wool. The water is very cold. Have a blast. Wheelygood I do it wrong until I do it right
  16. Kuebbing wrote; I turned the island upside down even though the cache was not in the location it was in the spoiler photo. Pretty lame guy, pretty lame. ________________________________________________ If you actually turned the island upside down as in you left the island disturbed by rearranging the terrain then without question there are 2 lame people involved here. Good chance you only hid it better for the next guy while eliminating decoy spots. I certainly can understand your fustration but that doesn't remove your responsibility to leave no trace. I hope you had a good trip, you know saw some nice scenery, wildlife, people, got away from work, etc. Wheelygood I do it wrong until I do it right
  17. If I revisit a cache for TB I usually bring a TB to trade. What I really like are those 2 fer 1 deals you see once in awhile. Wheelygood
  18. Art, Have you spent a lot of time in the park? One of my goals for this summer is to find/photo, a rattle snake. Mind you find only, no way would I touch one. Have you seen any? I'm thinking one of these early spring sunny days might be a good day to look around.
  19. Team GPSax said; Maybe you can arrest my bug...it's 60 miles NE of the race starting point! At this point, I wouldn't mind some 'interference' ________________________________________________ Which one is yours? I must be fairly near to it and I will be goin thru PA. next weekend.
  20. Art, I was just down river to FTF GCFAEB. Nice ride this morning. Where can I get a map that has the trail #s on it? And when you say a trail is closed ie. 18, 6 & 6A does that mean "officially closed" and if you use the trail you are breaking a rule?
  21. Cracker7M said; Unfortunately, due to damage caused by the recent ice storm, a few of the trails and areas (east side gate), of the park are currently closed until cleanup can be completed. You can call (585)493-3600 to check on whether specific trails/areas are open or closed. __________________________________________________________________ Does that mean that nobody is allowed in the closed areas? I was scouting a spot for a cache out by Sodus Bay and the place was a mess from the storm. I look forward to more of your Letchworth caches. Big Bend was great, I'm surprised nobody else has posted on it yet.
  22. Ttepee, I absolutly do not think I am helping the situation w/ my own predates. On one cache listing I did explained why I predated the cache, thinking it might get people to respond somehow. I'll post a note on the other listing directing them to respond here if they have an opinion.
  23. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Markwell: Wow. I mean... wow. Unless it's an event cache, or a cache will be released on a certain date, I can't really see any reason for post-dating a cache's placement date. Reply; Yes, there is a geocaching gathering event that day. The caches are not to be visited before noon on the 19th. I did not email Dustoff because I wasn't sure what the community thought. As for recommending I not predate, I intend to redate the caches after the 19th. I want my and all other local caches to be known to the locals when they come out. Not very many people know or think to use the alternate method of seeing new listings.
  24. This is my first post so if this has been covered elsewhere please send me the thread. On the Geocaching in New York main page under the latest caches hidden section all of the caches are predated. Several of them have been on for over 2 weeks which has kept a couple dozen caches from making the list. I am guilty of predating 2 of mine just so they will show up and get fair play. I am aware that there are other methods of keeping up with the latest placed caches but the minority of members are not. Does anyone else feel this is an issue?
