  1. Do a search for MobiPocket on Google. When you get to the website download the pocket reader for PC. If you're not a paying member(3 dollars a month or 30 a year)....become one. As a paying member you have access to 'pocket query' which can be sent to you in ebook format. You can have the ebook file sent to your email which can be read in the mobireader. The cache pages which are in ebook fomat are listed with details, even the scrambled clues are in an appendix at the end. I highly recommend this for laptop users.

I was not given any explanation, so why am I wasting my time here?

Oh well, I'll move on and have my fun without the rest of you.

Have a good time; even if it is hard to do when I am gone.

What a crappy attitude, especially for your second post and only being registered for one day.

I love that this activity to growing and attracting new people, but with you coming in full of piss and vinegar like that I can't say I'm sad to see you go. With that personality all you can do is bring others down.

I like to look at the log finds of people near me who seem to like the same types of caches I like- it helps me decide which ones I want to try next...

Why someone would want to log a find they haven't found is beyond me- but there are lots of people out there I just don't get...

I wouldn't worry about ferreting them out, though, because deceptive people like this tend to show their true character eventually, and I trust that most people are perceptive enough to figure them out...

I don't think makaio meant to lose the written logs, just the number of finds for cachers.

Ilike to read the logs but could really care less about who found how many.

  5. I just downloaded the pc version of the mobiPocket. What seems to work for me is to save the ebook files in the 'my ebook' folder in your 'my documents' folders. When I open the reader everything that is in the ebook format shows up on the 'menu' of the reader for me to choose from.

  6. I've found a 'format' that I like but there are two that I created when I was learning to use it.

I may have completely overlooked it, but where is the setting to cancel a query?

Also, is there a way to change the coordinates for the pocket query from decimal format to our 'traditional' format?

  7. Thanks for the tip on mobi reader...I didn't know they made it for the PC. I did a pocket query in ebook format and it's nearly exactly what I'm looking for. The list of caches with the details without having to go to each page to download them.

I just thought that the offline website idea would be good becaust I'd be able to syncronize the online geocaching with the offline geocaching on th laptop.

I can handle the pocketquery with the mobireader though......or maybe I just need to get a PC Card modem that can work with mobile phones!!!! (just kidding.

    Thanks again.

  8. Yeah, I thought about that, but I'd have to save each cache page that I'd want to keep. I was hoping to save the site with a 1 link depth so I could view the page with the caches in my area, then I'd be able to click on the details link to get the info on the cache. I'd also be able to syncronize the site at any given time to get the updated info on my laptop.

I'm sure it works and I'm just not doing it right.

I'm hoping to get some mapping software on here soon so I can do some 'playing'. I want to play with the real time tracking feature that some of the mapping software has. I was thinking MS Streets and Trips....I have the '2 second' hack for the 2002 version.

This is a great program. When you download it there is another program on the same site called "refupdater" I think....it's something similar to that anyway. The refupdater, when clicked, will go to the lavasoft website or one of it's mirrors and download the new 'definitions' so the ad aware software can find new adware. It's similar to updating you antivirus software.

Be advised though, some shareware that has advertising software embedded in it will not operate if the ad software is removed. You have to decide if you like using the shareware more than you hate popups or the possibility of your personal info going out to the 'net.

  10. I carry several different potental trade items and I trade accordingly. I may carry a couple of hotwheels that I have duplicates of incase I see one I don't have, I've left whistles(unused), refelctive belts, glo-stics, and I have a laser pointer that I haven't left anywhere yet.....you get the idea.

At the very minimum trade equally and if possible trade up.

  11. I'd just drop the issue. If it were to get approved you'd have mostly Geocachers there anyway....who wouldn't need to be told about the sport.

I like going to garage sales as much as the next guy, but from my expierence, most of the people that I've seen at garage sales don't exactly look like the 'outdoorsey' type that would go spend $100 or more on a GPS. I'm sure there are exceptions to that observation though.

It's not worth the argument and you're not going to get 'the powers that be' to change their minds.

You cold always take a bunch of that stuff you're going to sell, assuming it's small enough, and make several new caches for your area. I'm sure that would benefit geocaching in your area much more than trying to 'recruit' new people to the activity through a garage sale.

  13. Does it give you an error message? I had problem trying to open .loc files because the file I was trying to open was an easygps file from geocaching.com and I had the software set to try to open actual easygps files. When I click on file>open then choose my file I want to open I get a pop up message asking what type of file I am attempting to open. I chose the wrong one the first time. Be sure you're picking the right one.

    Just a suggestion.

  14. I use the yellow etrex and it does to real time tracking. Since it has an internal antenna it sometimes gets a little flaky under heavy tree cover, but it's not anything too bad. I love it and to me it's very easy to use.

You may want to go to www.garmin.com and download the users manual and give it a read. They are in PDF format and free for download.
