  1. Congrats to 'Eric and Hill' to finally reach 200 finds... ...and it *only* took 5 ½ years. Check the stats... FYI - Eric introduced me to the wonderful world of geocaching...
  2. Don't forget we are also going to try and hit up "atoll-ya-so" as well, if our arms and legs are not eaten by barracudas by then. But this one would have to be swimmers only as we will be swimming to the island. We've already done the Scuba Steve series, but if we knew when you are going to hit "atoll-ya-so" we might join you for that one... It's hard to tell a time, but I can always try to call you when we get to the "Kiddie Pool."
  3. On Sunday, July 1st @ 10:00 am, I'm going to do the Scuba Steve's caches with Eric from 'Eric and Hill'. We'll start with Scuba Steve's First Time (Revised) (GCVGCH) and move on to Scuba Steve's Pass the Grass (GCWK2W), ending with Scuba Steve's Kiddie Pool (Revised) (GCVHM0). If anybody would like to join us (including non-swimmers), meet us at the parking lot by Scuba Steve's First Time by 10:00 am. Who knows, I might be able to grab a seal for BBQ afterwards - I'm a Polar Bear
  4. I was browsing the web and found someting... http://www.aaskolnick.com/allnatural.htm Remember - It's all natural!!!
  5. I used the Geocache Manager for a few weeks but I did not experience the problems you're having with 'append'. I recommend you to switch to a "real" database (I did), such as GSAK that you can get for free, and many of your problems will be solved.
  6. I have a Magellan eXplorist 500 NA (ver 2.03) with a 2 GB SD card (Blue Memo). The problem: The screen "refresh" rate is slow (in my opinion) when I zoom in/out on the map. It takes in the neighborhood of 5 seconds to refresh the map and waypoints every time I push a zoom button. I have loaded Mapsend street and topo map for CA and NV on the SD card. The question: Is it worth replacing the current SD card with a "fast" SD card to improve refresh rate? Has anybody done it and actually noticed an improvement? Or, is the current refresh rate "normal" and I'm just impatient? Thank you for your answer...
  7. Is your computer USB port 1.0 or 2.0? USB 1.1 - I have a new laptop on my B-day list this summer!!! USB 2.0 is 40x faster than USB 1.1. My point exactly. OK.... Let me clarify a little... I know USB 1.1 uploads to the GPSr slower, but that should not matter once the files are transferred. The problem: Loading map and WP's are slow on the GPSr (first the map - then the WP's). Again, I'm not talking minutes here, maybe 5+ seconds. To restate the question: Has anybody noticed an improvement with GPSr map "refresh" rate going from a slow SD card to a fast SD card? When it comes to memory card speeds they are in increments of 150kbits/s. So a 133X card can transfer 20megabits/sec or 2.5megabytes/sec. Your GPS runs at USB 2.0 speed. So the maximum USB 2.0 speed is ~60 megabytes/sec. However, I'm not sure how much memory you are really reading at any one time, but it shouldn't be that much. Anyhow, if you upped your card speed by 8x, your read time should go from 5 seconds to less than one second. Thanx! Sounds great (in theory), but is there anybody who actually has tried it???

  10. Here's a question: I got a Magellan 500 for X-mas (thank you Santa) and I also bought a 2 GB SD Card for it. Well, the problem is that I think the map "refresh" and loading WP's are slow - several seconds (yeah, I know - I'm impatient). The card is NOT rated "fast" and I have CA and NV street and topo map loaded onto it. I've been thinking about buying a "fast" SD card, so my question is if anybody has used a "slow" SD card and then upgraded to a "fast" and noticed a difference?
  11. Hmm... Maybe I should hide some puzzle caches to keep you busy...
  12. How about old highway 80? New caches popped up. Did I just talk to myself? Did anyone answer you other than yourself? Just curious about details.... Hmm.. A schizophrenic cache idea perhaps.. 13. And now to something different... On several occasions I've seen cache containers chewed up by the local wildlife - most likely because once upon a time the container had food in it. My question is - What do you use to clean out/neutralize the smell from a container that used to contain edible items, such as M&M tubes, nuts etc.???
  14. Hey!! I'd better get that back on Sunday morning!! Good thing I upgraded to a new phone... Oh, there's no way you can rub me the wrong way! D! You'll get it back...it might be a little worn from all that rubbing though...
  15. I just released my first Travel Bug...
  16. I got 1 confirmed and 1 maybe so far - anybody else interested? Contact me directly if you want to go!!!
  17. Anybody interested in doing the Pushawalla Power Path Series (and surrounding caches) on Sunday, April 29th??? I'm going there in my Minivan and I can take an additional 6 people with me (although it will be more comfortable with only 5 more). Start time between 6 and 8 am - returning after dark.
  18. Congratulations to: SlabyFam: 1700 finds Thunder-4: 1500 finds RLCSpeaker: 800 finds They all did it at the Fiesta Island CITO event yesterday!!!
  19. Thank you!!! And thanks for asking - I've got 92 active caches left in my 10 mile area; about 60 of them are puzzles though!!! Congrats to everybody that have reached a milestone recently!!!
  20. I don't have it bookmarked, but search for "Bikencache" caches in Orange County.
  21. That must be a micro! Congrats PolarBear! Well, the .39 is definitely not in there... Imagine the headlines: "Polar bear assaulted a bull" Anyhoo, I'm leaving for Sweden on Friday night - last chance if you want me to move a TB or coin there.
  22. And how would you know?!?! Perhaps you tried to milk the bull too...
  23. I'm going to Sweden on 1/27 for a few weeks. If you have any bugs/coins that you want me to drop off somewhere in Stockholm or in Kiruna let me know ASAP. No monster bugs please.
  24. There is also Google Moon. Zoom in to the closest view to see the moon's surface in finest detail... Yes, very fine detail...
