  1. I was about to get on my high horse when I saw this . Because in one of the examples I had noticed, the cache was disabled in mid July with a note of explanation, then a please reply log was left in early August followed by archiving 8 days later. Luckily for me I decided to recheck the dates and I noticed a 2008 lurking in the the mid July disabled date . My basis for the August amnesty was that the cache had only been disabled during the preceding month. So oops, sorry for wasting peoples time and I say NO to an amnesty; let them have it. PS High horse has been led safely back to its stable
  2. The 8 day rule was applied, which in August would seem to hit a lot of people who would not be in a position to send emails or post notes.
  3. I was wondering if I could appeal to the powers that be to suspend archiving during August based on the not hearing from the owner rule. I have noticed that two of my friends have had their caches archived whilst they are on holiday. Both are in education and so are taking long holidays and so fall foul of the 8 day rule. I should expect that they are not alone in taking 2-3week holidays in August. Anyway it was just a thought. Cheers Gary
  4. Congrats to Tjapukai who spent another hard day at the 'office' by grabbing 64 FTF's today, passing through the 400 barrier to 449 FTF's. I was about to claim a record for him but I see that Luzian also knows how to feast on those virgin caches.
  5. Just to echo that GetCounty() is excellent I have had no problem with it.
  6. This might be my fault. The last image in garyhoney's profile is a map that I created for the use with GSAK and the FindStatsGen macro. Not your fault at all Astartus I believe you used the official regions of the England (for England obviously) then split the South East. As these start to have elected bodies I suppose these will become the most familiar region definitions. Not sure how other UK constituents were made Edited to say. After reading my own link I see that the North East rejected an elected body and the whole idea has died such that the regions will be disbanded in 2010. Still think that Astartus's south west seems correct though
  7. Essex is in East of England, Kent Southeast England. somewhere there is a google overlay knocking around but I can't at present find the link. If you look at the bottom of my profile page you can see a static map of the regions. Hope that helps
  8. Thanks for clarifying that a reviewer can still do it as I thought that had been stopped. You have identified the angle I was coming from. Being a sad git I like doing puzzle caches. And so was celebrating my 400th such cache. Unfortunately twice my target moved and on inspection one 5 star puzzle had cache became a 1 star trad, much wailing in my house. This seems to me happening more and more, and whilst I know that an owner can do what they like with a cache wouldn't it be easier to archive the old one and put up the new one at the same spot. Apologise for not spotting the thread above, must improve my search techniques:)
  9. A quickie. Can a cache be changed after publication from say a multi to a traditional. I was under the impression that this could not be done but now believe I was wrong. Could someone put me right. Cheers Gary
  10. Well done Andy! But surely you made a mistake that was a 4* puzzle cache Oh I see you used alternative means to find it
  11. Alan this seems to make sense. I tried 12 caches at 'random' and they all had this problem which is why I made the post. I have trawled through more thoroughly and I reckon you are correct all the broken links are of the visit link type with the exception of one that was in the hint and used to display as plain text Still this effects many caches so is still a problem which I would say is unintentional as the best way to break the link would be to leave the url in plain text the way it was typed in.
  12. NickPick Thanks for that. Firstly these are not my caches merely examples. I was alerted by another setter whose page changed last night. The two examples I have given defintely worked a week or two ago. The first one linked to a pdf so you might be on to something. Will probe more, at least this is not universal
  13. I agree that internal links still work and I haven't tried any image links. However straightforward links as in GC1AH3N and GC11KN5 seem to have been rewritten. Geochecker seems to be an exception
  14. Have all links in the cache descriptions on cache pages been changed to be a link back to the cache page. I can't yet find an example of where this has not happened.
  15. Watch Mr Pot, I have still got an hour to change my mind
  16. I promised my wife Foolish I know. Perversely it is easier popping out on a winter's night for a quick cache than a summers one, for some reason my wife wants to go out for an evening when it is warm At least I will have had 10 days of holding the top spot but I would admit to being a bit peeved
  17. I have waited sometime to post to this thread (3.5 years) but I can now say that I have met the challenge plus a bit extra. Today will be my 400th consecutive day caching. A bit of blowing my own trumpet (sorry) but my main reason for the posting was to ask if anybody knows of any UK based cachers apart from goldpot (272), woking wonders(146+) and Pengy&Tigger (113?) who have completed more than 100 days consecutive caching (I am aware of the INATN list). I feel that this obsessional branch of caching needs its own Hall of Sadness list which hopefully I can persuade mongoose39uk to link to from his records page. I intend to stop today unless of course someone comes back and says so and so finished on 4xx in which case I might just have to carry on because I am sad like that Cheers Gary
  18. Many thanks for all your replies on and off line So far no bids on my son I have managed to fix the antenna with electrical tape. After some trial and error it seems there is a plastic disc on the top of the antenna that needs to be held firmly down. I successfully trialled my GPS under tree cover and she got me to within 25ft. Many thanks again. Gary
  19. I have tried but it did nasty things to his nappies Pleased to be of service To be fair to my son when I gave it to him I didn't say don't eat. I have just purchased an external aerial but would love to get the ole girl up and running as before so help still appreciated.
  20. Whilst out caching on Sunday I gave my two year old son the GPS to hold whilst he was on my shoulders. On arrival back at the car I noticed it was a bit slobbery. Then yesterday when I fired her up she wouldn't find any satellites despite being in totally open ground. It was then that I noticed that the rubber at the top of my Garmin GPS 60 had been chewed through and the underlying plastic exposed. So my question is can I replace the rubber - a quick google suggested not or will a bit of tape work. I tried the tape option last night and had partial success in that it found two satellites but never locked on. Any help would be greatfully received Gary
  21. It's back on a shiny new server well done Cheesehead
  22. From the home page of INATN 2008-04-09 - Update: An arrangement to bring INATN back to life has been... arranged. More details to follow...
  23. It's still there at least for the time being as only the home page has disappeared To upload stats use this
  24. I have read through this thread (Taken some time) and can't find any reference to vice-counties. These are used in many walks of life, from hobbies (birdwatching in particular) to academia. Their one big advantage is that the are a standard with each area about the same size which would be excellent for filtering. Also because they are a standard there are many utilities such as this one that are excellent. I stand back to be flamed as I know it is late in the day but I only saw this at lunchtime. Go on you know it makes sense , plus they are numbered - I like numbers
