  1. Find out who registered the site.

Bright guy who put his face out there did do something smart and used a proxy service to register his site, so we can't find his identity that way.

However, if he's doing something illegal as stated by GeoJunkie!, a court order might reveal that information.

Yea, I did a "whois" search on his domain and saw that it is registered as confidential!! Like I said before, I don't think that we'll see any issues with it, it just makes me mad that someone would try to stoop that low and screw with caches! If Groundspeak can figure out who the moron is (I'm sure he has an account here) they should ban his user name and IP addresses forever!

  2. 1. If you had not posted this message I and a lot of others would not know these sites existed.

    2. Since his "original site" did not take off, what makes you think this new one will?

I'm 100% in agreement with you!! I really do not see very many people paying $10 to join his site AND paying another $30 for a premium membership on geocaching.com just to have access to caches to steal/destroy!!! It would really take a moron to pay $40 a year just to commit crimes!!

  3. Is there a way to report a website? Basically it sounds like a neighborhood gang forcing street venders to pay for "protection". They don't even know the definition of "muggle". What they propose is piracy. Muggling is when someone that's not involved stumbles on the cache and takes it. Either way, a site like that should be illegal, as it's promoting thievery and hostage-taking.

Sounds like they're upset that their first site didn't take off like they wanted.

Maybe a Groundspeak Lackey can weigh in here...

I am a Police Officer in GA and this is the very definition of Theft by taking...if they destroy a cache then it is Criminal trespass (since the value is less than $500)...either way IT IS A CRIME!! These idiots are promoting crime and charging you to be a part of it!

According to their website, when a cache owner seems "Civil" they may meet up to return the cache (after you've paid your $10 to join the site)...I will be very civil via email/phone but I will have the moron(s) in handcuffs shortly after the meeting takes place! I HATE A THIEF!

  4. Okay...last year sometime, some folks decided to branch out and create another Geocaching site called "Off the Grid Caching"...I registered and poked around a bit on their site and it did not appeal to me so I never signed back on and, actually forgot about it until now...

I just received an email from them saying that they've launched a "Sister site" called "Muggled.net"...

I just went to the "Sister site" and clicked on the "Muggling 101" link and found this...

    http://www.muggled.net/muggling-101/

Are these morons serious? They promote PURPOSELY stealing caches and requiring you to PAY to register on their site to get your cache back?

  5. I have a gently used Garmin Oregon 550 handheld GPS unit. The only sign of wear is a light scratch on the screen that does not affect functionality at all. I have upgraded to a different unit and need to get rid of this one.

    I am including:

GPS unit (Garmin Oregon 550) with built in camera

    Caribiner clip

8GB Micro SD card loaded with Garmin United States Lower 49 road maps package ($60 value)

    USB serial cable

These units originally came with a battery charger and two rechargeable AA batteries, however, I am keeping the charger for my new unit. I have included the original NiMH rechargeable batteries so you will simply need to buy a charger (this is a great trade: I keep the charger and you get $60 worth of maps!)

Also, there was no user manual with the unit when it was new, you have to go to Garmin's website and download the .pdf version or use the online manual for the unit.

I am asking $250 SHIPPED, the unit is $270+- (on Amazon) brand new and that does NOT include the $60 for the maps so this is a steal!

  6. It's a no go on keeping up with it on my old Jeep...the new owner removed it. I had cranial flatulence and should've thought of using the number for something else!! I can think of a few ways to use the number..thanks for the info guys!

  7. I have a TB listed on my trackables page and I no longer have it. It was a 6" reflective TB decal on a vehicle that was sold and I do not know how to delete the TB from my list. Is there something that I am missing or am I forever stuck with that TB?!

  8. WOW! That's a very good deal! I bought my 550 from Cabela's and paid $499 for it!! Nevermind on my price of $300!! You'd better jump on that deal from Cabela's!

How well do you like your 550? For the price I was thinking about getting one also, I am currently using a Colorado 300 and have several software and one hardware issues. Thanks,

I like it! I haven't had any issues with it. At $299 (I just received my Cabela's Spring Catalog today) you should definitely grab one!

  9. If you're a little computer savvy, you can register a new domain name and build your very own discussion forum and webpage! I use TMD Hosting and I recommend SMF (Simple Machines Forums) for the discussion forum!

I have built and hosted several forums and it's not that difficult to do! This will give your group a PRIVATE place to swap stories, organize meet & greets and just hang out!

    Just my .02 :D

  10. My opinion is this: If you hold it, they will come.

Are you in a cacher rich area?

Set-up an event in the area you want to start the group and see who comes. Use that to see if interest is there. Then build a website. Personally a Facebook page is the best. Seems like 98% of the world has a Facebook account.

Good luck. Contact me if you want some pointers.

    Thanks for the info!

  11. This would be a group of Cachers who get together for caching and Meet & Greet events! I am part of a group where I live (Oxford, GA) and I have a friend in Brunswick who is interested in organizing a group.

If there is enough interest, I will host/build a website and discussion forum where the group can organize events and cache runs! :D

  12. It's a long story and I won't bore you with the details but we ended up with TWO handheld GPS units when we began geocaching!

We do not need two units so we're selling one...we have over $530 invested in the unit ($450 for the unit, $60 for the North America Lower 49 Street Maps, a 2GB SD card and $20 in shipping)

I will take $400 FIRM for the unit!

Here is the Cabela's link to the unit (I bought it from Cabela's)

Here is the link to the map system that I purchased and installed (directly from Garmin)

  13. Alright everyone, I am relatively new to geocaching and I have noticed something on the map and can't find an answer anywhere!

I know the difference in the cache symbols (traditional, multi, etc) but I see that some of the traditional caches have a circle around the symbol and some are square...what is the difference in those?
