  1. Would have loved to join you, but we just got back today. Got up at 03:30 this morning in Cairns and flew to Brisbane, Auckland, LAX and arrived at PDX at 17:00 the same day, 30.5 hours later. We're a little beat. icon_frown.gif

Mars is getting better every day for the next few weeks - I would be very interested in getting with people to look at it. We could compare the sizes of our telescopes. icon_biggrin.gif

  2. So we were in Adelaide a few days ago and our 30 minutes of Internet time was expiring as we started reading Geonap's last pre-find note. Now that we're in Fremantle (Perth area) we finally got to read the whole story! So glad it has a happy ending!! Congratulations, GeoNap!!! You're no wimp!

In fact, you'd probably have found more caches Down Under than we have so far. We suck. Our batting average is about .333. Just spent over an hour and 2 visits on an unsuccessful 1/1.5 cache. AAAAARRGGGH!

We're having a great trip, and look forward to seeing everyone again in a few weeks. We even got greeted at the airport and had a private full-day tour with the mayor of Kangaroo Island! Don't know when we'll have Internet access again, and we're not able to access our mail right now....

  3. If the weather is nice, and I expect it to be, then we'll be outside. We'll bring our flashing stars.

Once again, This Sunday, 7/13, 7pm PDT, Imbrie Hall, Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. N45 32.955 W122 54.052.

Don't forget to bring travel bugs that would like to go to Australia!

  4. Congratulations, fractal, on reaching two years!

And thank you very much for your kind words! Your caches have really inspired us, and we're honored to be named in the same sentence as you when unique or satisfying or quality puzzle caches are mentioned!

We're looking forward to collaborating as fellow cachers, and also to continuing to get to know you and others in the caching community.

  5. Given how we're leaving on vacation for parts down under real soon, we'd like to have one more bash before then. What do people think of Sunday evening the 13th? We're thinking Imbrie Hall at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse.

Sorry Tuesday night crew - Tuesday would be too late.

If someone has a travel bug they'd like to go to Australia, bring it!

Last year's trail is pretty much gone. I'm thinking that the trail changes every year as the fishermen follow the various game trails to the river in late june.

I figure i'll try again sometime next week. If anyone beats me out to it, i've got a $25 gift certificate at a certain one-stop shopping center with your name on it. You can prove you've been there by taking a few pics, if you trust yourself with a camera near water.

Someone should free that travel bug--it's been there for over 200 days now.

I now have a tale to tell of this cache as well. It will take a while to get it logged, and there's this birthday dinner tonight I have to go to.

  7. With tears in my eyes, I must wish you all good luck with your expedition, unless I can talk you all into waiting until late August. Fat chance, you say? Alas. icon_frown.gif

Maybe we can join a second wave.

  8. We're very interested, willing to pitch in $ for munchies etc. Alas, we're not available for the next several Saturdays (unless it happens on the 5th). Any possibility it could be August 16 or 23? If not, we'll have to content ourselves with enjoying everyone else's logs.

  9. Got beaten to this one by Grandpa, but apparently we deserved it. We took the marble he'd left because he would certainly say we've definitely lost ours. Managed to squeeze a bungy cord in there, but the next finder will almost definitely need to take it. Another fine fractal micro!

Well, I've got a pretty good picture going here, but I don't think I'll finish it. Too much work to find the coords of a cache I'll never hunt anyway.

In my opinion - and I'm not trying to start a war here - there's a fine line between a challenging puzzle and a tedious puzzle, and this one's right on the line.

Balance between tedium and challenge is one of the hardest things about puzzle creation. It is learned by practice. I appreciate and welcome feedback because that is how I learn to make better puzzles.

I'm also quite happy that it was found today. Twice. So far. icon_smile.gif

Am I allowed to post in this forum?

Please do. Just tell the bouncer that you're with the band. icon_smile.gif

The practice puzzle needed to be small, which limited the possibilities. The cache's puzzle, however, is not nearly so small. Who can say how it conveys information? Certainly not anybody yet! icon_razz.gif

If you need a non-local test solver for your puzzle, let me know. I eat these things for breakfast.

  12. Very good JOYSON. I'm very impressed. The funny thing was that I was up at 2am as well, and saw your note then...

I'm sure that knocking on a door would have provided amusment for somebody, which is why I said you didn't need to leave the street. icon_rolleyes.gif

We're working on a series of puzzle caches involving pyramids, and the first one is nearly done. It (the first one) will involve this kind of paint by number puzzle, and it shouldn't be nearly so easy as this little practice one. icon_smile.gif

We really like paint by number puzzles; we've never seen triangular ones before we made them. They should be easier than the square ones, but can be more confusing.

Here is the solution to the practice puzzle. The coordinates come from the number of triangles in each cluster; there are a couple of zeros in it, which require some imagination to see.

  13. Perhaps, if you solve it and interpret it correctly, it will lead you to a cheap trinket that could be a teaser for things to come...

    teaser000.jpg

This is similiar to a puzzle type that Games Magazine would call a "Paint by Numbers", but it is different. I'm sure google can lead you to information on how to solve them.

While the trinket is not on the street, you don't have to step off of the street to get it.

  14. Sounds like quite the challenge. It's on the opposite side of town than we usually do, but oregone did (foolishly icon_razz.gif) attempt the Clone of My Own Bonus while it was cut off by water, so I could do his cache the same courtesy. My sabbatical starts in a few weeks after all... I should wait for you to find it first to see if you put a coin in it... icon_wink.gif

I know Marla wouldn't touch this with a ten furlong pole. icon_smile.gif
