  1. My first GPS from many years ago was a Garmin 45. I bought it at the time because of its removable antenna. I got it out and tried it last May for my first attempt at geocaching. It was completely useless in any kind of tree cover. My first attempt at finding a cache was a failure. So it got set on a shelf and hasn't been touched since. Since then I've bought a Garmin 76 and a Rino 120. Both are excellent in tree cover, in the car, etc. MUCH better than the 45 was.
  2. For those of you who have been there, this one is fairly recognizable: N 28.373927 W 81.549367 A couple of the buildings are real identifiable as .... Disney's Epcot Center in Florida
  3. I like the idea of the lapel pins for 50 - 100, etc. caches. So what if nobody knows why I'm wearing it -- I do! I also like the idea of minting (or whatever) custom geocaching coins. I would love to use them for trades, etc. I was recently looking for a place to buy custom-printed playing cards. In doing so, I found places that will custom-print the plastic-wrapped coins used in casinos as betting 'chips'. They're actually metal coins shrink-wrapped in a heavy plastic that is custom-printed with the name of the casino. In this case, of course, they could be printed with the geocaching logo. Just another something to look into.
  4. My first attempt to find a cache was with an old Garmin 45 (now obsolete) and it was horrible. Zero coverage under trees. I then (as you now) looked for suggestions for a better unit. I found a few recommendations for the Garmin 76. I looked around a bit and bought one. I love it. Excellent sensitivity and coverage in trees, etc. I have found a few caches with it now and have really grown to like it a lot.
  5. I know the FRS portion doesn't have a GREAT range, but I don't need to talk for miles. I like the idea of having the two units in one. Saving batteries and space while out-and-about seems nice. I wasn't aware the screen was THAT much smaller. I'll have to check those specs more closely. I was hoping someone here may have had the opportunity to get a hands-on test unit reaction.
  6. I really like the specs on this new Garmin combination unit called the Rino 110 or Rino 120. (For those of you not familiar with it, it combines a GPSr and an FSR Walkie Talkie in one unit). It has some pretty nice features. But before I plunk down cash for it, I'm wondering if it has the sensitivity of my present Garmin GPS76. Anybody used one? Seen one in action under tree cover, etc.? My Garmin 76 works really nicely under tree cover, etc. I don't want to trade that sensitivity and accuracy for this new one just because of a built-in FSR transeiver. Any thoughts, comments, first-hand accounts?
