It CAN be a good thing, depending on how you look at it. What I think IS neat is that multiple people found a place cool enough to warrant a cache there. 50 feet away would be quite annoying, however, on opposite sides of a park, I can see... Some days you want to go on a big hunt, and sometimes it just feels really good to get a couple of quick finds and go home. right back at ya!

  5. Yeah, sometimes that really does happen. Cool, ain't it? It took us a while to learn that when we see a new cache we want to find, also click on the 'nearby caches' link (close to the middle of each cache's page). Sometimes there are more caches closeby, occasionally even in the same park or 'neck of the woods' like you have discovered. That way you can get a 1-, 2- or, if you're REALLY lucky, a 3-fer! Of course there are lots more example, but here are two more to get you goin'. These are within about 1/4 mile of each other in the same park: Canine Confluence and The Cache Worth Finding Have lots of fun!

  7. Just checked out your bio. Are you a fellow philosopher? Saw your reference to Descarte. Or was that just a joke? You may (or may not, depending) recognize that 'dasein' is a term coined by Heidegger. Anyhow, hope everyone can meet you at the event cache that we and Shmoe are hosting next Tuesday. Team Joyson has a link to it on their post from earlier today. --laurak of dasein

  9. Hmmm, have you been watching 'Heavy Metal' lately? My parents have a bunch of antique Carnival glass packed away. Wonder if it does the same thing? --laurak of dasein

  11. 'Do we, or don't we?' has been approved!
  12. burned to the ground last night. Very shocked to see that on kgw.com's news this morning. It was a wonderful place. Sorry especially to fractal if this is the McMenamin's that I'm thinking of. --laurak of dasein
  13. We got the meeting spot and 3 of 4 waypoints figured out today, including the final waypoint. Checked out the menu at the final meeting spot and had a drink. Everyone should be able to find something to eat if they wish to do so. We have personally sampled some of the food and find it quite tasty! We'll be dining like kings while you guys are hunting the caches! This should prove to be quite fun for everyone. We are very excited about the details we planned today! Tomorrow we'll be able to submit a cache event page for approval. BTW, this cache event will take place rain or shine. Much of it will be done in the dark, adding to the excitement! Watch for the approved cache page in the next couple of days, and let us know that you are able to come! --dasein and Shmoe

    rain rain go away

Rain is nice 'cause there are less people in the parks giving you more privacy whilst caching! Last night I finally went to bed at 4am, then I thought I heard rain on the roof. I opened the window and lo and behold! I was so excited that I woke doug up to tell him it was raining! Rain makes me happy! At least rain doesn't give you skin cancer! --laurak of dasein
  16. quote:Originally posted by oregone:...eventually, we could do a whole OR vs. WA game, although us oregonians would be at an advantage as portland is located so close to the border. the portland version of this game would obviously be centered around eastside vs. westside, but i'm thinking that the westside would have the advantage for some reason... Well, Travis and Oregone, 1) TravisL, This is a WAY cool idea! 2) Oregone, we even like the west vs. east PDX thing... 3) Maybe you think the westside has the advantage because there are more caches over that direction or more computer geeks live there. But don't underestimate we eastside computer geeks; we are so busy finding caches we almost forget to plant 'em! Hey Bodoni, Igor, Matt and Laura, et al, you gonna back us up? We say 'bring it on!' --dasein
  17. Witnesses said that the fire began at the logjam near the outlet of Oneonta Gorge (which is pretty close to the old Hwy). The fire quickly swept up the hillside but was contained within a couple of hours. Whew! Way to go, firefighters!

BTW, you'll need to race to see fractal's b!tch!n new helmet and other accoutrements. Unfortunately for me, fractal was faster tonight -- Sounds fun! Somehow we already knew that fractal is a speed demon. laurak of dasein
  22. I've had a cold, and was hoping I'd feel better today, but didn't. This sounds fun, doug and I hope we can do it some other Wednesday. laurak of dasein
  23. 1) Cache event and meeting spot will be on the eastside of Portland. 2) Meet time will likely be 7pm sharp, latecomers SOL. You can wait to have dinner until the final meeting point, if you'd like. Everyone should be there absolutely no later than 9pm. 3) Group hunt; carpooling to initial meet site and subsequent cache sites encouraged--for fun and convenience sake. 4) Group should have a few cell phones (the more the merrier!) and some flashlights and GPS's. 5) We and Shmoe are gonna get the details worked out over the weekend and likely will be able to submit an event cache for approval early next week. Providing it gets approved, you will be able to count it as a 'find' like 'The Game' and 'The Cube.' 6) We've got a cache name decided on, but we're not releasing that information...yet!
  24. quote:Originally posted by drea:If you made it the 15th or 16th I could come... Drea We chose October 8th 'cause 2 days later doug and I will be in Tahiti for 10 days. Figured ya'll wouldn't want to wait a whole month until the next Golden Spike event, and frankly, neither do we.
  25. quote:Originally posted by Bodoni:...some of us will meet at http://www.hottrack.com for some kart racing. It's not too cheap ($16 per round, but we usually only race two sessions), but it's a ton of fun. Added bonus is that Wednesday is half price for ladies! Anybody want to meet at 7pm?(it's easy to get to). Sounds fun, but a bit spendy. We'll talk about it. Don't be surprised if we show up tomorrow night (...or if we don't show up, for that matter). Doug and I have never heard of this place before. Must be pretty dang cool, huh?
