  1. Since it's clear on the other side of the city, we'll just have to see what we're up to doing on that day. Plus, I'm coming into mandatory overtime at work. I might show up if I'm not too torked off! I resent it when somebody says I have to work overtime and the situation isn't my fault! --laurak of dasein Temporarily French Polynesia's most prolific geocachers!
  2. Glad you don't change your username like you do your avatar image. Gotta admit that we're fond of the marmot though. Keep you username the same, PLEASE! Temporarily French Polynesia's most prolific geocachers!
  3. For all you Monty Python lovers out there, Look out, there are llamas! We and our best friends say this frequently at silly non-sensical moments! Wouldn't this be a great cache to caravan to? Temporarily French Polynesia's most prolific geocachers!

BTW Oregone, are we talking Blazer's Dancers or Newport High School Cubs (that's where I went to H.S!). There's a big difference! I always wanted to be a cheerleader, but then I gained 100+ pounds! I blame the college commons food! --laurak of dasein Temporarily French Polynesia's most prolific geocachers!
  5. This sounds like a good reason for a get-together -- view the tape and have some beers! Possible? --laurak of dasein Temporarily French Polynesia's most prolific geocachers!
  6. If Oregone's correct and the parks are free that day, it would probably be a zoo. We could care less about saving a few bucks, but we're just 2 people. Right now our calendar is rather open this far ahead.

  8. quote:Originally posted by Dr. Isotope:You might also be concerned with items such as P-239 and U-235. I know I am. quote:Originally posted by fizzymagic:Of course, there is no such isotope as P-239. Another bit of misdirection? Here's my take on it, after gleaning a bit of information from the great Internet: U-235 = Uranium 235, a naturally occurring isotope of Uranium containing 143 neutrons and capable of sustaining a chain reaction. U235 and U238 isotopes are used in weapons. All elements with an atomic number >92 (the atomic# of Uranium) are manmade. P-239 = Plutonium 239, a manmade element formed in a nuclear reactor from U238 by neutron capture. It has several isotopes, some of which are fissile (capable of capturing an electron and undergoing nuclear fisson), and some of which undergo spontaneous fission, releasing neutrons. Weapons-grade Plutonium is produced with >90% P239, reactor-grade Plutonium contains +/-30% non-fissile isotopes. I certainly am learning a lot from this thread, even if it is in vain, as Dr. Isotope so often says!
  9. quote:Originally posted by Dr. Isotope:Fractal and I are not the same person. Feel free to guess again, even though you will be wrong. You had a hint when I told you my name. I am not wrong when I say "Dr. Friend" is an anagram for Iron Sulfide (pyrite, fool's gold; I am no fool, Dr. Isotope.) Is this what you were looking for? In addition, kind doctor, I am on to several clues that you or your cohorts have left in the thread. I'm not sure whether to post them here or e-mail you privately. Which do you prefer? --laurak of dasein
  10. I think they may have turned our beloved fractal into deranged Dr. Isotope! Yeah, I know I'm wrong, but hey, look at some of the evidence...new signature item = radioactive marbles, has his own geiger counter, absence from the boards from late 10/25 to 10/30 afternoon while out of the state... Just too much for me to ignore. Does geocaching now have its own 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?' --laurak of dasein
  11. Did you take, and then 'return' this too?
  12. ..after looking at the revised proposed map again, what if the dividing line between east and west followed the Willamette south from the Columbia to where I-5 crosses the Willamette, then followed I-5 south to Wilsonville (as opposed to following the Willamette east toward Oregon City). But like Oregone said, let's not jump the gun yet and see how things go for a while up north. I'm all for that. --laurak of dasein

Amen! quote:Originally posted by oregone:But we all know how this is going to end up: eastsiders vs. westsiders. It's how it has always been, and it's how it always shall be. Double amen! quote:Originally posted by oregone:I personally think that all of those bmw-driving, mansion-owning, freeway-loving, mall-shopping... Amen again, brother Oregone!
  14. On a Portland east vs west geo hotpotato, we agree to not include Columbia county. Also agree that the dividing line should be the Willamette River. If you live in PDX, you are intimately aware of this. If this game turns out to be east vs. west and so many more caches are on the west side of the Willamette River, would it be fair to include Vancouver on the eastside team? Or was this implied, since Vancouver is east of where the Willamette meets the Columbia? Besides having more caches than the east side, there also seems to be more cachers on the westside (if we're not mistaken). Wouldn't number of cachers on each team play a more important role than the number of caches in a team's area? Straighten out my head if I'm not grasping the concept. --lauak of dasein
  15. Radio-isotopes are commonly used in medical imaging, including bone scans and heart stress tests. In these two cases, isotopes are injected into your veins and taken up by the bones to show defects or show if your heart receives enough blood from its coronary arteries to work efficently under stressful conditions. Unlike you, Dr. Isotope, I'm not a "doctor" but have been taking some college medical courses over the last 1 1/2 years out of sheer interest. Just my first stab at your game plan. --laurak of dasein

    Hi folks...

Makaio is right, many of us were at an informal geocachers gathering tonight partaking in yummy food and drink, and lively conversation! Last night I printed out the pages for your 2 most recently placed caches. Hubby and I hope to go find these VERY soon. Saw the picture on your profile page of you under Ponytail Falls. Cool place! We were in that area just about 3 months ago to find Oneonta. Check it out if you haven't already. Looking forward to meeting you! --laurak of dasein
  17. We've heard so much about this place we just gotta see what it's all about. Doug will be wearing his Beavs shirt! --laurak of dasein
  18. Doug and I remeber the 'live or Memorex' thing too (we were children of the 80's too! ) I side with fractal. This is *definitely* the same photo doctored to make the spike look silver. You can't hide it (you're probably not trying to anyway), I compared the photos side-by-side! Anyhow I'm just trying (if only in vain) to show how 'with it' I am! I think the gold and silver spike thing is cool too, 'long as people don't get confused. Am I beginning to feel a friendly WA/OR thing develop here?... --laurak of dasein

  20. Thanks to everyone who came to 'Do we, or don't we?' yesterday. Doug and I and Joe had a fun time planning it for you. Although not everything went exactly as planned, the feedback we got was good and it sounded like everyone had a good time. We learned a lot by doing this. Thanks for the lesson, and we hope to host another event sometime next year. Looks like just about everyone has posted their find for this, so I'll deactivate it tomorrow evening before we go on vacation. We won't be back until the 21st. I'll be going through geocaching.com withdrawl! Luckily there are a few caches on Moorea and Bora Bora where we are going, and we're prepared to go find 'em!

    Geo tiles

quote:Originally posted by oregone:Safe, that is, until someone decides they look like candy and try to get to the sweet chewy center that is so obviously inside. This tile somehow makes me think of Christmas when I was a child. Every year Santa would leave a fist-full-size sticky clump of hard 'ribbon' candy in the toe of my Christmas stocking. Pulling out the candy brought a bunch of stocking fuzz out with it. God how I hated that stuff! I always managed to sneak it out in the garbage can. Years later, Santa finally got the hint. But the tile also causes me to recall fond memories of fresh saltwater taffy from Aunt Belinda's on the bayfront in Newport (the town where I grew up, for the most part). But I'm still not quite grown up at 33, so who knows what could happen if Doug and I are lucky enough to find one.
