  1. I have noticed that when GME is enabled and I preview a PQ on the map it shows all caches in the area and not just those on the PQ. If GME is disabled and I preview the PQ I get a map of just the caches on the PQ.

Is there a way of seeing just the caches on the PQ on the map whilst GME is enabled?

    Thanks

  2. Has anyone any info on when a "authorised" version of GME might be available? I really miss it "just being there". I have found away round it for now which isn't too bad. I have a shortcut for the Chrome Extensions tab on the bookmak bar and a copy of GME on the desktop. I just delete the installed version of GME, drag and drop the new one and off I go.

  3. It appears to me that all scheduled PQs are produced at midnight server time. This may be fine in the US and further west but for those of us that live east of the US then this means we do not get the PQ until the morning. I live in the UK and the erver is currently 8 hours behind us. This means that the earliest I get a PQ is 8am and often hours later.

If all PQs were sent at midnight local time to the user then this would spread the load on the server and allow us all to get the PQs in the very early hours of the morning before loading up for the day off caching.

I suggest that the PQ sending time is changed to midnight local time to the user.

  4. Is there a way of specifying the email address to use for cache owner found logs which start [LOG]? I want to get emails from cachers (via the website), notifications and PQs sent to my phone but I would rather logs were not. (I can read logs on the PC later). I can change the email address for notifications and PQs to any of my registered email addresses but contact emails and logs seem to always be sent to the primary email address. Any suggestions?

  5. Not working for me either. It has been days now. I cant't even get the the Field Notes. I have IE9 and Chrome running on Windows Vista Home Premium. I do hope this can be fixed soon as it virtually stopping me caching now.

    Thanks for any help

What router do you have and have you tried turning off the firewall on it?

I have turned the Firewall off and it appears to be working OK. I have a SNA5630NS/05 badged as TalkTalk but possible manufactured by Phillips. Should I leave the Firewall off or is there something else I should do?

    Thanks for your help

  7. Is there away of seeing all my unpublished caches on a map as if they were published so that you can see how they lie with each other and others nearby before submitting for review? If this is not possible I am sure it would not be a big job to do and I am sure it would be great for those putting out a series. When I placed my little series I set up all the pages with coords where I expected to place the cache and then edited them when I had done so. To see them on a map would have been very useful. Any comments?

  8. I have just downloaded the new script and it seems to work really well. The map has not locked up when zooming in and out which it had done before. I love the link to Google Street view, that is really useful. The cache labels are also excellent though being black on an often cluttered background they are not always that clear. Perhaps the labels should have an opaque background. Many thanks for this excellent script.

  9. The one major point throughout this thread is the need to tell someone where you are going by having a plan and an estimated time of return plus, possibly a buffer time. My question is who do you tell? I live on my own and frequently walk on my own. I do not want to trouble my family (who live miles away) or my friends every time I go off to a remote area. I feel safe doing this and believe I have reasonable kit including (usually) 2 mobile cell phones. My worry is that I might slip and either become injured so I cannot call for help or become unconscious. If I die quickly without suffering then it is not a problem!

I have tried to search for an online system that you could log your details with including details of your trip and ETA so that the system could notify friends, family or authorities that you have not checked in on return but cannot find one. There was/is a telephone based system in the UK but it did not work very well.

Any thoughts or comments on this?

  10. I am a Premium Member and using Google Chrome. If I select to use the Google maps then the icons are interactive, if I use the leaflet maps and GME then the icons don't work. Simples. I understand that Groundspeak have a fix that will be released in the near future.

  11. I am using Chrome and IE and have also lost the interactivity of the cache icons on the map. I have reloaded Chrome and that made no difference except that I have also lost GME now and can't get it back as Google appear to be blocking it. My system is going down hill rapidly. Panic!

  12. Thanks for all the comments. The caches that I "lost" were very close to the route with others nearby further from the route, even allowing for the straight line route used. I tried it again with the distance from the route reduced and one reappeared and then reduced it again and another reappeared. There are no political boundaries nearby that would be relevant. The caches I were checking on are relatively new. (2 months old). It seems that the safest way is to not limit caches by number but to reduce the track width until you get the required number.

  13. I ran a PQ for a route of 60 miles and limited the results to 480 caches that were enabled and that I had not found or did not own. All other settings were left as default. I found that at least 2 caches that were very close to the route and near others had been omitted. There with other caches nearby that were further from the route that were included as well as others from the same series within half a mile. I can understand it dropping caches further from the route but not those very close. I have checked again on return and it is still leaving them out. Sorry if this has been covered before or is in the wrong place but I couldn't find it in the forum.

  14. Hi. Welcome to Geocaching. I guess we started at about the same time as I also started in March and have now found 1000 caches. May I suggest that you have a look in this forum under the relevant section depending on you US state, country or language but probably better still is Facebook. Try finding groups in your area as they are great fun and a very good way to find other cachers. Check also on geocaching.com for events in your area. I have been to a few in my area and they are great for discussing everything geocaching.

    Hope that helps

  15. I agree with the above comments about having a DNF icon. It would be very useful. Perhaps a blue or grey frowny face would be great. Also can we not keep the smilies when you zoom out rather than the icons changing back to the unfound icons. I have a lot of smilies around me :D :D and it would be great if they did not disappear when zooming out.

  16. I have been using GME for a while and have just upgraded to version 0.5.10 but have a problem. On this version and on the previous (I don't know about before that) the distance shown for the route for small distances using imperial measurements seems to be out. Possibly showing one tenth of the correct distance. For example a distance of about half a mile may appear as 140 feet. Metric distances seem to be fine as does larger imperial distances in miles. Has anyone else noticed this or have a solution?

  17. I am using a Nokia 5230 with Geocaching Live v0.9901 Beta and it works pretty well but occasionally, because I can't get to a computer I want to upload found logs from the Nokia.

To do this I mark the cache as found and add any required notes. When I have done this for a number of caches I go to Menu, Cache, Show lists, Menu, Upload to Server. After a short while I get a message "X new log entry stored on the server. OK", however, when I check online the caches are not shown as found nor is there anything shown on the Field Notes page.

I am I doing something wrong or does this not work?

    Any help much appreciated!
