  1. Only a description of the place, a couple of spoiler pictures and a hint (related also to description of place).

    Have you:

    - checked the spoiler pics for hidden clues (Exif, Steganography)

    - checked that there is no white text somewhere? Sometimes this is used to hide something!

    - What is the difficulty rating? Maybe the gag is, that there is no code, it's just plain coordinates.

    So many possibilities!

  2. Thoughts?

To ways to approach the "problem":

    - What size am I looking for? --> Regular

    - Can I trade swag or drop a TB / Coin? ---> Micro

Solution: Size: "Other", however this size is unofficial often used for nano caches.

It might be a good idea to make clear what the speciality about your container is to avoid disappointment.

  3. I want to hide my cache inside one of those lamp-posts, but want the coords to be the entrance of the parking lot, and the challenge to be "find the geocache inside one of the lamp posts" to increase the difficulty (1 star to 2 stars).

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Best help: Don't hide it!

A LPC with deliberately bad coordinates is a bad idea! Is it such a good idea that geocachers look under 25 lamp post skirts in a crowded parking lot? Is this the kind of treasure hunting you like?

  4. find an old usb plug cut and atatch the wires to chang from serial to usb. I have the scematic and wire color code charts if you need them.

Yes, I'd like to see the schematic of that contraption. USB to serial (RS232) is a bit more than just rearranging the wires, so I'm really excited to see your solution.

  5. My question is, is there a way to find pretty good coordinates when hiding?

You can either use google maps or google earth to get the coordinates.

Especially in urban areas such coordinates tend to be more precise than those determined by a handheld GPSr.

  6. Three weeks ago I posted this right in this thread.

I actually contacted the seller and got an answer.

I sent this guy the following question:

It this coin in any way related to Geocaching? Is it trackable at Geocaching.com?

    Answer:

ONly if the coin is related to Geocaching (in item description) Thanks

I don't see a big problem. Nobody claims to sell a trackable geocoin. And I don't think the the Order of the Templar Knights assumes intellectual property rights.

  7. We are new Geocachers, and we haven't found our first cache. Maybe because we are using a car navigator, and now we will bye a real one. But what to chose;

    Oregon 450t Topo

    Oregon 450

    Oregon® 400t

    Oregon® 200

    Dakota™ 20

    eTrex Vista® HCx

    eTrex Legend® HCx

    GPSMAP® 76CSx

    GPSMAP® 76Cx

We hope you will help us

    Anneton

The Vista HCx, 60CSx and 76CSx are pretty much the same units in different casings.

The Oregon GPSrs are equipped with a touchscreen instead of many buttons and are paperless capable.

You can compare the units online at the garmin webpage. I personally have the 60CSx and am very happy with it.

  8. If you come across a cache that has been archived for almost a year (or longer) and the CO of the original is no longer in the game. Would you claim the container as Geotrash and clean up and reuse the container?

Yes, because it's archived and no longer part of the game. So it is trash. The owner should care for it, but if he doesn't do so, everybody should dispose the geo-trash.

  9. I Thought it would be fun to see how many fellow geocachers discover the tb on my dog's collar. Is that allowed? I got the idea when I saw tags on patches and car stickers.

Of course this is allowed. There are special dog collars which you can buy. After all, a TB is a dog-tag.

  10. It would be nice if when you delete a Foundlog (as owner) may enter a statement. So you can explain, for example, that he was not in the logbook or other, to give a feedback why you delet the log.

The Statement could be includet in the deleting-mail.

This would be nice indeed. At the moment you have to use the screenshot - make it anonymous - wirte-note - workaround. Works as well, but it's far more steps to do. I'm actually surprised that you can delete logs without stating the reason.

  11. I'm using

    XP sp2

    1GB ram

    Delorme PN 40

First, you should let the Windows updates run to get SP3 NOW! Even if this has nothing to do with your problem, an operating system has to be up to date.

I just tried the send to gps feature, it worked. Running XP Sp3 and FF 3.6.3 together with a Garmin 60 CSx.

So this might as well be a Delorme problem.

  12. My 60 csx is very accurate as long as the compass is calibrated. It seems though as I have to recalibrate it ever time I turn the unit on or I don't get the accuracy. Is there anyway around this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't believe that the compass calibration has anything to do with the unit's accuracy. The compass has to be calibrated after every battery change. But you cannot calibrate the GPSr itself.

  13. My children are compiling a SWAG trade box. So far, it's trinkets. We spent 3 hours caching the other day and none had trades. My kids really want to swap, so how can I find which caches have swaps?

The bigger the cache, the more likely your kids will find something. That's not possible with the micro caches. So if you want to trade swag, hunt small, regular and large geocaches.

  14. Okay, I just placed my cache. After I finished placing it I got the coordinates. They were accurate to 3 meters. The problem I have is that I don't know which one is west/east and which is north/south. I put them in google and it was exactly where it was. The coordinates are 40.11348 ,-74.91731. Even if I know which one is supposed to be west/east/ and which is supposed to be north/south how would I know if it was north or south? I'm confused can someone tell me exactly how to fill it in?

No offence, but are you sure you are ready to place a geocache, if you don't know the hemisphere you are living in?

Why don't you set up your GPSr in a way that it displays the common format for geocaching, which is degrees decimal minutes?

  15. Would it be appropriate to let him sign up and then backdate logs for the caches we have done together onto his account so that he has a complete history?

Just didn't want to upset any CO's by logging old visit

That is okay. You can state the reason, why you log so late, I don't think an owner is unhappy with this. But there might always be "the one" who has a problem with everything.

    Just do it!

  16. only works when the description actually says anything about any "restrictions"

Yes, sure! But that's the responsibility of the cache owner. If a person can't provide a proper listing with all the information required. I don't think a tide-attribute will help.

    GermanSailor

  17. Who reads...?? I do but I know a few that just go to the site...

and then if they can't find it then they read!

That's exactly the problem of those persons. I really like the attitude not to read anything and then complain about the lack of information. Some people should better stay at home. Maybe a lawsuit against the tides might be an idea. :anicute:

  18. Does anybody know if all the coins being sold by CENTRAL METAL CORP like above are fakes? I just saw that he has a lot of dog coins listed right now and the back side say they are trackable. It also says Rising Sun Mint.

    Ask the seller!

"Trackable" doesn't mean anything. A USPS parcel, a dog, you, everything is "trackable".

    The questions should be:

Is this a Geocaching.com related item?

Can I track it at geocaching.com?

What if it is a coin, with a geokrety number engraved? Still trackable.
