  1. That might be the problem. If you tell the site it is HTML, it will change the data. Just leave the checkbox unchecked and only after you are done with your final html, set the checkbox. GermanSailor
  2. No I wouldn't. It's good if the muggles know about it and help rather than destroy the cache or worse call the bomb-squad. If some hobo started to live near the cache, it's probably a reason to relocate the cache. I wouldn't feel safe searching such an area. GermanSailor
  3. Almost all consumer handheld GPSr can be fed with waypoints by hand. The only ones were this isn't possible might be the bluetooth receivers. Those one don't even have buttons. The Etrex H is an excellent choice for a beginner. However a cable + USB-Serial converter is not to expensive if you avoid the original Garmin cable. You can enter coordinates manually, but getting tracks from the Etrex H to your computer or performing firmware updates require the data cable. GermanSailor
  4. It was one of my own caches. I just wanted to check if everything is okay. But I didn't find it. It was gone! So, clearly if all caches were like this - gone. I would never geocache again. GermanSailor
  5. It should be possible, but what is the reason you want to downgrade? GermanSailor
  6. Guidelines Does should contain constitute a mandatory requirement? GermanSailor
  7. Your trash-can. Followed by: - obtaining a Lock&Lock or other suitable, at least small-sized container. GermanSailor
  8. Try to run the wepupdater and install the newest firmware or re-install the current one. Doing this once reanimated one you my Garmins. GermanSailor
  9. You found the cache and signed the logbook. Of course you can log the geocache online. GermanSailor
  10. If you have the tracking number: 1. Grab the TB from the current holder. 2. Log it into the geocache you found it. (write note) 3. You can delete this log, the TB still is booked into the geocache. 4. Retrieve the TB again. 5. Log the geocache where you dropped the TB with a found-it or write a note, whatever is suitable. It often happens, that a trackable isn't logged online within a certain period of time. You can either grab said trackable or just wait. Some people don't like it to much if a trackable is being logged out of their hands. At least log the trackable online where you found it ( # 2 on my list) so the mileage will be calculated correctly. If you don't have the tracking number. 1. Write an email to the owner of the TB and explain the situation. 2. Write to the owner of the geocache where you dropped the TB, explaining... 3. Write a note at the geocache where you dropped it and tell that there is a TB in it, which isn't logged. GermanSailor
  11. Same thing happened at one of my geocaches. A very experienced geocacher found the D1 geocache, asked in the log to hide in better and gave the mega spoiler as well. Translation: "The big tree trunk. Please hide it better, otherwise okay. Thanks" It is D1, so I don't care for the spoiler. But I will modify all my geocache to Premium Member Only caches soon. Within the last couple of weeks all the spoiler and stupid logs were by newbies, who aren't PM yet. It's a bit of a German thing to try to get as much as possible for free, something I don't want to support. Still I'm somewhat proud that I got the "otherwise okay" by this wise-guy. GermanSailor
  12. The big differences are: - Geocaching means a GPSr is involved, so Letterbox-Hybrid-Geocaches must have some Coordinates. Sometimes those geocaches are like multis with clues as Stages or QTAs. A stamp may be in the letterbox. The guidelines say, "should contain" a stamp. - Letterboxing is a different hobby. There no GPS is needed, everything works with clues. And you have to have a stamp to sign the logbook. Trading item is not a part of letterboxing. To answer you question: You don't need a stamp to log a geocache. At geocaching.com only geocaches & benchmarks are listed, so sign the logbook and log is only like you would do with any other geocache. GermanSailor
  13. The cache online cache page at grounspeak.com displays the trackables which are logged online into that geocache. Quite often a tb is listed as in the cache but isn't. This is normal due to the delay between the "real life" found of the cache and the online logging, which occurs later. Sometimes even weeks later if geocacher are on holiday without an internet connection. GermanSailor
  14. It's always good to have this information, but never give away the tracking number. A link to the tb in question is fine. Most probably someone dropped the tb in the cache but didn't log it online yet or just forgot to select the tb while logging. I guess you grabbed the tb from the current holder. You can do this, but some persons consider this rude. After you grabbed the tb, you should post a note for the geocache where you found the tb, delete the note and then grab the tb again. Sound complicated? Maybe, but by doing so, you ensure the the mileage of the tb is calculated properly. Even if you delete a note or another log of a trackable, that doesn't undo the last movement. Meaning, if you dropped a tb in a cache and you delete the log, the tb stays there. You don't see the tb in your inventory? But you have the tracking number, just enter the tracking number and log the tb as "grabbed it from somewhere else" or another log that clarifies that you hold the tb at the moment. After that you can drop it in the cache where you found it, and retrieve it again. GermanSailor
  15. Probably magic. Probably the owner gave the listing to some friends while the cache was waiting to get published. That's not very uncommon. Or it is as well listed on some other geocaching platform or forum. GermanSailor
  16. Not by me. Just log the cache! Geocaching is just a hobby, it's not about anything. GermanSailor
  17. Just online. I don't store any paper recordings, however I have a "corrected coordinates" database at GSAK with the actual coordinates of the multis / mysteries I found. GermanSailor
  18. With the PQs (you have to be a premium member), select "flashlight required" and "not available 24 hours" Look for bookmarklists of NCs. Go to a local event and just ask. GermanSailor
  19. Thanks for the cache GermanSailor P.S: There is a Wiki here in the forum.
  20. No, it's not. You have to state the coordinates of the final anyways. If you are honest, it usually won't get published. Talk to one of the reviewers for your area and try to come to a legal solution for your problem. Cheating is not an option! GermanSailor
  21. The GE-Viewer Koordinates are off. This is to prevent the misuse of this viewer to spider the coordinates of geocaches. If you want to use GE you have to import a gpx-file. Those coordinates are accurate. GermanSailor
  22. In order to see the bearing pointer you have to: - have a waypoint selcted as "GoTo" - have the compass calibrated GermanSailor
  23. 1.852 Meters. 1 minute of arc along a great circle equals 1852 meters (1 nautical mile). The third digit after the decimal is 1.852 meters. This is why distances on nautical charts are always measured between parallels with the dividers. GermanSailor
  24. Just use the "send to GPS" button. This is the most convenient way to transfer waypoints as a basic member. GermanSailor
