  1. We started caching in the winter, and loved it - no leaves on the trees, and it kept us nice and cool.

When summer came, we were completely unprepared for the searing heat (2006) and the NETTLES! :o

I much prefer caching in the winter. I also find it's the best time of year to set caches - as you know they won't be left uncovered by all the summer foliage dying away.

  2. Always have a pencil on you for when the log is damp and a biro won't work

Always have a couple of spare stubby pencils so you can leave one in a cache that doesn't have one - saves the owner a maintenance trip

A leatherman so you can sharpen the pencils in the micros

I use my leatherman to chop pencils into pieces - and carry a pencil sharpener to create a mini pencil that'll fit any sized container! :(

I also carry in the car a small selection of cache boxes (and a few 35mm containers ;)). They don't cost much and you can really help out by replacing a worn out, leaky container for the owner.

  3. I didn't do it! It wasn't me! You can't prove anything! ;)

    Well, maybe.

I was convinced the cache had gone - and when Paul asked if I had a replacement micro I was only too happy to oblige. We probably should have phoned - sorry Ali - I'll remember you for all those late-night PAFs in the future!! :D

So at the end of this - SP has to refind the cache, and I'm a 35mm container down. ;)

But what's a micro between friends - you can keep it and redeploy it elsewhere! :D

  4. Anyone been off to look at the ads that we are talking about?

They're tiny! And very unobtrusive. I say fair enough - besides, without thinking I just clicked on one because it sounded interesting.... and I *never* click on ads.:angry:

It's great that we get to have our say, but Groundspeak don't have to listen to us. However much we like to think otherwise, *they* run the company and can do what they want. They've had a decency to listen to our moans/rants/suggestions before, but they don't have to!!

  5. I passed by her and her ole man in their posh car the other day. They were in Pangbourne at the Falklands Memorial Chapel. Must have been six feet or so from her as our cars passed, I was so excited! I should get out more! Liane

I was filming at this event and forgot that I was in Cache Hopper territory. Didn't even have time to find any caches :o

  6. Am I missing something? Do cache-setters not like new people to get in on their scene? Or could the truth be more mundane?

They're probably too busy out setting caches...!!:huh:

Seriously - welcome to the forums, and to the exclusive cache setting club

I think you'll find loads of people eager to give you advice on setting a cache right here. Also have a search though the forums for previous posts on the subject.

  7. You Can - Just bookmark it. It has notes section right there for that purpose.......

But then you'd need a single bookmark for each of the caches you want add a note to. A good idea, but not particularly efficient. :(

I think it's a great idea - I have a series of caches each containing a code. If I had this feature I could store the info with each cache on the website, rather than having to keep an easily losable excel spreadsheet!

  8. Well done Nick. Now, does anyone have the map from Burial Mound squirreled away somewhere? If so, I'd be happy to adopt it. I'll just have to handle the extra workload :anicute::)

Cool! I already emailed Dan/Pid to ask if I could adopt this cache, but I'm happy for SP to look after it. I'm sure Mrs HF will be happy I don't have even *more* caches to maintain too!!

But if you're not that bothered, SP, I'll happily take it over. It's up to you. :D

  9. Thanx, untill I get used to navigating I'l use OS and then switch to Lat/Long when i'm close.

I reckon you'll soon get tired of switching between the two! Remember you'll have to use lat/long for almost all multi-caches too. I'd recommend using lat/long, but what do I know - my GPS is set up for metres instead of feet!;)
