  1. <snip>Disappointing (especially from someone who's marked up his profile with how committed to Jesus he is).

Sad to say that I'm never surprised by that sort of attitude from that sort of person. :)

I'm sorry, what? Where did that come from? I thought this was a forum about geocaching?

Back to topic... I've had a similar experience, but at the end of the day you can't be responsible for someone else's actions. You acted in good faith kewfriend (no pun intendeded), it's just one of those things. You could perhaps try adding a note to the cache to see if someone could look up their name from the logbook.

It came from someone's post that I quoted. You can see it too if you look.

Thanks, but that's not really what I meant! :)

I meant where did the criticism come from, it just felt a bit uncalled for (IMHO). Never mind - the moment has passed. Really not worth worrying about

Time to go and find some plastic boxes...

  3. Why don't we contact the BBC and let them know. I think the new number is 03700 100222. All the responses will be passed to the producer of the programme. Hopefully they will at least mention that there was an error.

It's true. All comments get published in the 'Audience Log' and are passed on to the producers of the programmes. Whether they take any notice or not is another question... :(

  4. All the more reason to find a way of saving it. Securing such "goodwill" again in future might be a lot more difficult... :o

I'm sure many folk want to see geocacheuk continue - someone let us know how best to help!

Absolutely. I wanted to check money wasn't the issue - practical help is a lot harder to give - especially on a large project.

Are there any other ways we can help?

  5. Hi.

I noticed a bit of a funny on one of my logs (look at the one dated 5th Apr) ...

I retrieved this travel bug from 'THE DAM BUSTERS 3', but my log only says 'housefamily retrieved it from' without the cache name. I've not spotted this before, and as I logged it using the WAP service I wondered if anyone else had experienced the same problem.

On a slightly related topic, am I only the only one who gets slightly irritated by having to type in my username and password every time I load the WAP page? I know TPTB have got a lot going on with V2 and everything, I'm just hoping they're planning a mobile version of the new webpage... ;)

  6. Say hi to Vegas for me! I went last year for the Consumer Electronics Show and stayed at the MGM Grand - brilliant because now I can annoy everyone I know when CSI is on by saying 'I stayed there!!!'

I only managed a few caches - but you'll find most of them are micros ;)

Hope you have a great time :)

  7. As others have said... take a good torch (or two!) - there's nothing worse than having your torch run out just as you reach the cache.

Me and Simply Paul managed to get a bucket of FTFs on a series of caches around Ashley Green near Berkhamsted, by going out at a ridiculous time of night. We didn't get back till 06:30!

I've just got a new head torch for my birthday - and I can fully recommend it. It's got LEDs and a xenon focusable bulb, so the best of both worlds!

  8. It's a brilliant site - and thanks to Teasel for spending the time keeping it running. I've set up (and maintained) a few web sites in my time, and I have a good idea of the sort of stress it can cause, and the amount of time it can suck up!!

At the moment, I'm getting the following error when I search for caches:

Couldn't update sresult cache logs - Table './geocache_teasel/clog' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed

.. which doesn't sound good. No rush - just trying to help by reporting faults.

    Keep up the great work!

    Geoff

  9. ... US geocachers get preferential treatment and/or a better product for their £1.50 a month... <_<

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. And the reason is.... Groundspeak is a US company. :)

It's always going to be a bit uphill, trying to get TPTB to listen to new features, attributes (not to mention county listings) which don't really affect the US, but unfortunately that's just the way it is!

  10. Hi all. We're approaching our next milestone, and I'd really like to make it an interesting/memorable one.

Does anybody have any suggestions of a cache we could do in the Southampton or Aylesbury area (we're visiting my parents today which is why we're in Southampton!)

Puzzles/physically difficult caches are ok, but I'd prefer a reasonable length multi or trad.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be hugely appreciated. :(

    Thanks!

  11. i.e. You go to do a cache and you see it's on the otherside of the ditch so you jump it, retrieve, sign the log, put it back and go on to the next.

It's even easier if you've brought someone along to help you jump the ditch - especially if you've just walked the last 100m through stinging nettles and mud in shorts and trainers!!! :P

Back on topic - it's a real shame that the geocoin was lost, but I'm glad you've decided not to make it a premium member cache. Without wanting to turn this into a PM thread, there are a lot of well-experienced non-pm cachers out there with hundreds of finds under their belt.

And, as has already been pointed out, I bet we've all done something a little bit silly when looking for a cache, it's just that we've got away with it! It's a shame that it happened to this guy on his 3rd cache, but maybe he'll treat the rest of them with a little more caution! <_<
