I have emailed one of the Western IRLP Reflector control op's in the past and he said if we could decide on a day and time he would be willing to let us use one of the reflector channels for a Geocache Net.

I might try finding it in the near future. Glad to see a fellow Northern Nevada cacher in these forums.
-
I say go for it. That is if you tell me which cache it is.
I left the un-activated TB Dog/Tags in my Weather or Not, Geocache. They were snatched up in less than 24 hours of the cache being approved.. Guess I will be adding more U/A TB Tags to my next cache as well.
-
Would you try to be FTF, if you knew there was a set of un-activated TB Dog tags in the cache? Thats what im thinking of adding to my next cache.

Ok, here is what I think the Nevada Geo-coin should look like.

I have an idea for a very nice Nevada GeoCoin. As soon as I find it I will post it here. Is there a page where i can see the current ideas?

I just leave a small business card with my call sign on it. Each card is numbered so that it reflects the number of caches i have found. So far im up to 9. Next one will be 10.. Hey im just starting out...

Good news, I just got an email from one of the "Western Reflector" control op's saying he has no problem with us having an IRLP/Geocaching Net on their reflector. So now I just need to give him a day/time we all would like to have the net..
So time to ask around and see what the best time/day would be..

My screen name KA7CJH, is nothing more than my Amateur Radio Callsign. It's as unique as i am. Because the last three letters of it are my initials Chris J Hoffmann..

I think it's cool to create a pocket query for my home town in Californina, even though im in Reno,Nv.
And yes being able to pan the GC maps is a very big plus. You can see if there are any other caches in the immediate area, ones you might have missed on the search page.

I myself am currently using my old 1998 model Magellan 2000XL. Talk about a brick.. But will hopefully buying a Foretrex 201 or 301 soon. The added feature of being able to strap the thing to my forearm while im riding my motorcycle is a plus..

Which logo are you looking for?

Seems like IRLP may not be the way to go. How about a sheduled online chat? Anyone know of a chattrom we could use?
What about clayjars chatroom?
BTW renopanner what name do you cache under? I don't recall any logs by you for any of my caches.
Man, I almost forgot there was a forum for Geocaching..
Rusty, I found my first cache when I was using the Renopanner name. Now I decided to just use my "Ham" callsign - KA7CJH.. Guess i will have to search out a few of your caches. I am planning my first multicache in my mind as we speak...
Time to do a pocket query..

I usually listen to good classic rock, 1960's through 1988 or so. Van Halen, OZZY, you know the good stuff.
The Mix/Sig cd sounds like a good idea. hhmm...

Small Altoids tins, 35 MM film canister? and a little camo paint would be a quick easy, cost efficient way to start.

I went out riding my dirtbike yesturday, and found a benchmark by
accident. Many many times I have ridden past it and never noticed it.
So this time I stopped and checked it out. It is stamped "US General
Land Office Survey 1942". But the worst thing i did was not save the
coordinates of it's spot with my GPS. And I can't seem to find it
listed in the benchmark section over on Geocaching.com.
This area is East of the Reno/Stead airfield located North of Reno,Nv.
However I did find the general area on a TerraServer map. So here
are the general coordinates Lat-39.6922498 Long- -119.81260 ..
I will try and upload a few images of it into the photos so
you can check it out, and hopefully help me ID it.
Photos have been uploaded here, http://www.qsl.net/ka7cjh/benchmark/
Thanks in advance,, Chris (KA7CJH)

Well, last time i checked, I was 39..

Is there anyway to tell who is watching a specific cache? Although my own cache is still pretty new, I was noticing there are 2 users watching it. Is there a way I could find out who they are?

Dang this forum is handy. Sounds like not only did this guy get an answer to his question, but you guys practically found the cache for him too!
Hahaha,
I could have used a bit of help keeping the young muggle kids away so i could sign the log. maybe next time.

I prefer 'a high tech game of hide & seek, with the world as our playground'. Short, sweet and describes what we do to a T.
I also think the "High Tech Hide-n-Seek" is the best way to describe Geocaching.

What kind/make of PDA would be best for caching? I have an older laptop but it's way to heavy and awkward to fit in my backpack when i go out caching. I think the smaller PDA would be the ticket.

If it were in Reno, the difference would be 93 feet.
That would be more than enough to get you on the wrong side of a wall, park, street, or parking lot. For a cache such as Excalibur it's enough to put you on the wrong side of the wash.
Have you tried downloading from computer to GPX? You get more caches on the GPS and less typo's.
dadgum your good.. Yep it was for the Excalibur cache here in Reno.. I put the right coordinates in and found the cache with no problem.. I was only 50 feet off the first time.
Thanks guys/gals.

What would the distance be between 119' 50.337 and 119' 50.357 be?
Would this cause me to be off just a little or alot?
I scrweed up entering coordinates into my gps this morning and left me to miss finding a cache i have been watching for a while.

Will My Old Gps Unit Be Good Enough?
in How do I...?

The Magellan GPS 2000 XL is a good Geocaching unit. I found my first 8 or 9 caches with it. Even used it for placing my first 3 caches and everyone seems to be able to find them. The only problem is it takes just a bit longer to zero in on coordinates.
