  1. I'd use Google Earth and then download the Geocaching klm file. View the area in Germany with Google Earth and see what caches pop up. Then visit a cache page and click show nearby caches. That is about the only way I can think of right now. I gotta save my brain for work...

  2. If you signed the log then log it as a find. :D

I found a cache tonight that had been muggled, and I am guessing that was the first to find it like that. I signed that logbook and logged it as "needs maintenance," but can I also log it as a find, since I DID find it? Or do I have to wait until it's been repaired, go back, sign the log again, and THEN log it as a find?

    Thanks!

  3. That would explain why another cacher in my area was in both Reno and North Carolina in the same day.

I checked, and the cacher deleted their log. Happens all the time. Perhaps they mis-typed the GC number or otherwise logged the wrong cache.

  4. Ok here is sometthing very interesting.

I just got an email saying that one of my caches has been found. So I go and check the caches page just to check and see what TB was logged in or out. Now once I get to the cache page the find stated in the email is not showing on the page. I also checked the finders user stas and it doesnt show him/her as finding the cache.

Could this just be a slow server issue or maybe something else?

fun cache (though I don't get the hint). It is reachable in a 2WD car. Thanks! Left the lambs-in-snow magnet, picked up a TB to bring back to Washington.

  5. Go to www.youtube.com and type "Geocaching" in the search field. And you will end up with a list of about 100-200 homemade caching videos that others have uploaded to the net. Some are very well done.

Or do a google search for "Icenrye" This guy does a Cache style Blog. Very good set of videos.

  6. Thanks Keystone,

That is was what i was looking for. I plan on adding a few new caches to my home town in May and just wanted to see if there was a cache there before. I will print these instructions out once I get home.

  7. Seems like a while back when we used the old "Map It" map we were able to search for archived caches. Now I can't do that sort of search anymore. Is there any way to do this now?

  8. If your asking which is the better band? I'd have to say 2 meters. As I don't have 40 mtrs priveleges yet.

But on the off chance your asking what is the best antenna wave length? Well it would have to 5/8 wave in my book.

  9. I had a similar problem happen to my Magellan Explorist 200.

I spent about 2 hours entering over 300 waypoints into the thing. Then once I was out caching, I had to change batteries. Turned the unit off and dropped in a set of fresh batteries. Then powered the thing back on, and noticed it displayed " Initionalizing Unit" .. Talk about a mad cacher.. Good thing I had a fresh Garmin Legend loaded up and ready to go.

  10. I was with a fellow cacher not to long ago. And he decided to hide a cache at a "Confluence".

Well it took both of us fighting our way through the brambles and poison oak just to get close. But after a long hard battle we one-out. Yes I logged the cache but only after another cacher found it and logged a FTF.

So if you help hide a cache, by all means you should be able to log it. Just don't claim to be FTF.

You still get the same smiley face.

  11. Unless your in a paved parking lot, You could always look for a well established trail. My last trip to Sacremento that was the method we used to find alot of caches.

And another thing. When your GPS'r says your within 5-10 feet,, Put the GPS'r away and start looking.

Some micros are also velcro'd to larger objects.

  12. You can always add a comment to the waypoints before you upload them to your gps'r. Then when you check the waypoint out in the field you can see if it's a multi/regular/micro.

If I go caching I use my pocket pc and it usually has 500 waypoints loaded into it. But currently im using MobilPocket to read the file.

Maybe next payday I will get cachemate. But then I will have to learn how to use it.
